JERUSALEM, Israel -- Despite lots of pressure from the outside and a lesser amount from the inside, Israeli Prime Minister is sticking to his position on the Jewish state bill, calling it the foundation for a future agreement with the Palestinian Authority.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Czechoslovakian Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka on Tuesday, Netanyahu said he would continue to clarify "that Israel is a Jewish democratic state."

In stark contrast, P.A. Chairman Mahmoud Abbas says the concept contravenes a two-state solution.

The P.A. and its parent organization, the Palestine Liberation Organization, strongly oppose the measure because it imposes "the Jewishness of the state on the land of historic Palestine."

From their point of view, the Jews are the imposters.

The Fatah-dominated P.A. and its coalition partner Hamas in the Gaza Strip both see the bill as a "racist, political decision to complete the theft of Palestinian land and rights," one that legalizes racism and discrimination, the Jerusalem Post reported.

Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri calls the legislation a further attempt to "seize control over the entire Arab region and steal its resources."
