U.S. officials say a group of Islamic extremists in Syria poses a more direct threat to America than ISIS.

A cell of al Qaeda veterans from Afghanistan and Pakistan called the Khorasan Group traveled to join up with the Syrian Nusra Front, an al Qaeda group.

The jihadists were sent there by an al Qaeda leader to recruit Europeans and Americans who can travel easily with U.S. passports.

U.S. intelligence shows the group has also been working with Yemeni bomb-makers and have already managed to place three bombs on U.S.- bound planes, though none of the bombs succeeded in downing the aircraft.
