I Hid Her Face from Staring Eyes
Emely was born with a cleft lip; she is the youngest of 3 children in Guatemala. Her mother, Kimberly, always covers her daughter’s face when they go out so people in her village don’t stare.
“Some people said that I had committed a sin, and that God had punished us,” said Kimberly recalling the guilt she felt after her daughter was born. “Even though she was born that way, we still love her.”
Her father, Julio, works as a security guard in another city. Paying the bills has been a challenge. Saving to take Emely to get surgery was impossible.
“With what he earns we can barely buy food. There are times when we have nothing to eat,” said the desperate mother.
Kimberly tried to find hospitals or clinics help Emely but she was constantly turned away. “That made me feel terrible. I felt like my daughter didn't matter to them."
Then she met the team from Operation Blessing. Thanks to YOU we first took Emely to a dental specialist who fixed her front teeth and gums. Then we paid for her to receive free surgery to repair the cleft lip. The surgery was successful and now Emely has a new smile!
“Now she can eat normally, and she looks beautiful. Thank you!” said the grateful mom.
