From Waylon’s Legacy to a Faith of His Own
BAPTIZED BY FIRE
Country singer-songwriter Whey Jennings is a Nashville recording artist for Dirt Rock Empire and one of the few traditional country artists out there.
Whey’s debut album, “Jekyll & Hyde,” premiered at #10 on Apple iTunes Top 40 Country Albums Chart, and #7 on iTopChart’s Top Country Music Album. Whey was also featured on Fox News, Billboard, People Magazine, Forbes, Cowboys & Indians, Men’s Journal, and Rodeo Life Magazine
While his debut album focused on his decades-long drug and alcohol addiction, his latest album, “Baptized by Fire,” focuses on his life of freedom from addiction, his relationship with God, and growing his family.
As a believer, Whey explains that “Some people think that when you get saved, life is a bed of roses. That’s not the case, but the strength to get through it comes from God. You’re no longer alone.”
While making his latest album, Whey admits that “Everything that could go wrong, went wrong.” Yet he and his team persevered, and with God’s help, the outcome has been amazing. Currently on tour, Whey will perform in 45 cities and 18 states. He’s using his platform to help addicts overcome their addictions with the kind of help that only God can give.
FREEDOM FROM ADDICTION
After 27 years of addiction, Whey was tired. He began to see and feel the negative effects of drugs and alcohol. The guilt became too much to handle.
In 2020, Whey decided to get clean. Before going to rehab, he met his future wife, Taryn, and they went to a faith-based recovery program together. They supported each other through their struggles, and Whey credits Taryn with helping him do what he needed to do to make himself okay with his life. Taryn also encouraged him after treatment. Their mutual experiences with addiction and recovery laid the foundation for their relationship and eventual marriage.
“I have a beautiful wife who has also stood by my side, and seven beautiful children who continue to love me. A wonderful manager whom I call my Momager, Mrs. Tammy Carolus. I’ve decided to dedicate my music and my life to them,” Whey explains.
FAITH JOURNEY
While attending the faith-based rehab center, he focused on sobriety with his music and Bible. As a young kid, he remembers seeing his mother’s Bible open in the living room, and he would read it from time to time. Believing in God wasn’t the issue for Whey; it was total surrender to the Lord that he struggled with. When asked if he had an overnight encounter with the Lord or if finding his way to Jesus was a process, he admits, “It has been a progression of things that have happened over my life that led me to a relationship with God.” Now, his faith is at the center of his life.
