The King Is Coming: Why Believers Don’t Have to Fear

For 35 years, John Bevere has stayed silent on one of the Bible’s most debated and often misunderstood topics. But after five years of God-led nudges, prayer, research, and deep reflection, he’s breaking that silence in his new book, “The King is Coming.”

“I was asleep compared to what has awakened my heart in the past five years,” writes Bevere. “The Holy Spirit drew me to study the prophetic word of God, and that created a greater urgency for this season, an intensified passion to love people, make disciples, and see the lost saved. I feel as if I’ve stood up and am more alert.”

While researching, John realized that Jesus spoke on salvation and His return more than anything else in scripture. It was a wake-up call for him, and he began to realize the importance of turning our focus to spiritual matters rather than scrolling on our phones so much.

His focus on spiritual matters rather than scrolling on his phone, “We should plan and work as if He is not returning for over two hundred years (because we are commanded to ‘do business till’ He returns [Luke 19:13 NKJV]),” said Bevere. “However, we should live as if He’s returning today.”

Within the pages of “The King is Coming,” Bevere covers topics like:

• False Christs, prophets, and mass deception: Jesus warns of false teachers performing signs and wonders to deceive even the elect; a great falling away (apostasy) from faith occurs in this season.

• Wars, rumors of wars, and global shakings: Nation against nation, famines, earthquakes as "birth pains" signaling the beginning of sorrows.

• Perilous moral confusion and rebellion: Widespread deception, lawlessness increasing, love growing cold amid unprecedented global instability.

• Jerusalem's significance and prophetic timelines: References to Daniel's 70 weeks prophecy, Jerusalem's rebuilding and destruction, tying to Jesus' first coming as a pattern for recognizing the second.

• Gospel preached worldwide and tribulation: The gospel proclaimed to all nations before the end; great tribulation precedes the visible return.

Bevere says that the parable of the ten virgins (Matthew 25:1-13) keeps him up at night because so many people are unprepared. Speaking to the church of Sardis, Jesus says that they have a reputation for being alive, but they are dead. Their focus was on culture and worldly things instead of being ready for the return of Christ.

When asked how we can prepare for the second coming, Bevere says, we should:

• Live in a constant state of readiness.

• Pursue holiness and Godly character.

• Eagerly anticipate His return.
