- Hey, everyone.
- Welcome to The Superbook Show.
- Kaitlin.
- Alex.
- Do you know a lot of Bible verses?
- I know a few, but Iwouldn't say I know a lot.
Why?
- Well, my dad knows so many verses.
I don't know how he does it.
I mean, I can barely memorize the few
that we learned in Sunday school.
- Well, we do have theBible app on our phones,
so I wouldn't say you needto have them all memorized.
- I don't know.
I don't think that's thesame as knowing your Bible.
I mean, it may be on yourphone, but is it in your heart?
(logo whooshing)
Don't get me wrong.
I think it's great that we have the Bible
on our phones, but,
- But?
- But what good does it do us
if we don't know and study theBible that's on our phones?
- Oh, like if you need aspecific verse in an exact moment
but you don't know thescripture well enough
to say it when you need it.
- Exactly.
And I'm not saying you haveto memorize the entire Bible
in order to be a good Christian.
- That is what a search baris for, but you're right.
It's not the same as really knowing
the scriptures in your Bible.
- We have to have a strong defense
against the temptationsand attacks of the enemy.
- That's right.
And you know what they say?
(crickets chirping)
The best defense is a good offense.
- Where are you going with this?
- Not only does memorizingscripture protect us
from attacks against the devil,
it also helps us strike back against him.
- Oh yeah, isn't the Biblepart of the armor of God?
- And not just any part.
The sword!
The sword!
(clears throat)
The sword! (laughs)
So the word of God is alive and powerful.
It is sharper than any two edge sword,
cutting between soul and spirit,
between joint and marrow.
- Where did you get that?
- I always carry my sword with me.
- What?
- The point is, no pun intended,
we have to arm ourselves
against spiritual attacks and temptations.
- Yeah, that's whatI've been trying to say.
Now, will you please put that away?
- Oh, okay.
All gone.
- I just have one problem.
- What's that?
- Well, I'm not good at memorizing.
How do you memorize a Bible verse?
- Well, I start byreading it a couple times.
And then I say it over and over again
like someone hit the repeat button.
- What if that doesn't work?
- Well, sometimes I like towrite a verse on sticky notes
and post them all over my houseso I see it everywhere I go.
- That's clever.
- Yeah, and if you need amemorizing buddy, let me know.
We can put some Bible verses on flashcards
and quiz each other.
- Thanks, I'd like that.
Try to memorize a Bible verse this week.
- Grab a friend and do it together.
- Don't let the Bible justbecome an app on your phone.
- Yeah, take that sword outof its sheath and use it.
- You're still talkingabout the Bible, right?
- Of course.
- Oh, okay, good.
His word is forever alive.
