- Well, it's time to takean email question, Gordon.
This first one comes from Cheryl who says,
"I was raised Catholic, butnow attend a Protestant church.
I've always believedabortion to be immoral
and against God's word.
My pastor frequentlystates and puts on Facebook
that abortion is okay.
I am struggling greatly with this.
I love my church community,
but I don't know how to handle this,
I am thinking of leavingthe church I attend.
What should I do?"
- Well, I would encourage you
to understand the history of the church
and understanding from the beginning,
from the first century,
the church took a stand against abortion.
There's an historical document,
some people pronounce it, Didache,
I think the correct Greekpronunciation is Didache,
but it's called theTeachings of the 12 Apostles
and it was used in thefirst century church.
In that they have thisincredible statement,
"You shall not murder a child by abortion,
nor kill a child at birth."
Many people have mistakenly said
the early church wasagainst exposing children
to the elements, but the earlychurch was against abortion,
it was a signature of the early church.
Even the classic writers, who were not Christian,
noted that Christians were noted
for not killing their children.
We protect life.
We believe life is sacred.
We believe life is ordained by God.
So anyone who is teaching against that
is actually teaching againstthe Teachings of the Apostles,
what the early church practiced,
and then instructed othermembers of the church to do.
- Well, here's one from Issa who says,
"I always pay my tithe to my church.
However, a relative of mineis in dire need of help
to pay for my aunt'shospitalization bills.
Can this count as mytithe for this month?"
- Yes, please.- Yeah.
- Please don't get legalisticabout tithing and giving.
Just give generously, give cheerfully,
and realize the words of Jesus,
"If you give to even theleast of these, my brethren,
you're giving unto me."
A lot of doctrine has been made
about giving to the storehouse,
and what exactly is the storehouse,
but when you give it,and you give it unto God,
and you're give in accordance
with what your heart is telling you,
and you're helping other people.
That's the key for me, isare you helping other people?
Are you helping people get saved?
Are you helping people get fed?
Are you helping people get healed?
If you're doing any of those things,
you're doing it unto the Lord
and if you do it to theleast of these, my brother,
and you're doing it personallyto him, he takes note of it.
He takes note of every gift you make
and he especially loveswhen you do it cheerfully,
when you do it willingly.
Don't get legalistic withtithing, do it cheerfully,
do it willingly, and God will honor it.
