Lawrence and Morgan talk about common sayings that are mistaken for being in the Bible. Read Transcript

- "The Superbook Show" is coming to you

live, live, live, live. (echoey voice)

- We are not live.

We can't misrepresent ourselves.

- People do it all the time, Lawrence.

- Well, they shouldn't,

especially not withsomething as important as

the Bible (said in echoey voice)

Bible, Bible, Bible, (echoey voice)

Bible, Bible, Bible. (echoey voice)

(upbeat music)(whooshing)

(whooshing)

(whooshing)- Who's misrepresenting

the Bible?- A lot of people do it.

And most of them don't evenrealize they're doing it.

- Give me an example.- Hm, ever heard the saying,

"Cleanliness is next to godliness"?

- Yeah, my parents tell me that every time

I forget to do my chores.

- Yeah, it's not in the Bible.- (gasps) Mom,

Dad, why?- And that's not the only one.

- (huffs loudly) What else?- Ever heard the saying,

"God don't like ugly?"

- I definitely said thatone last week. (laughs)

- God is never recorded as saying,

"I liketh not the

"ugly."- (laughs) Okay.

So you know that saying, "Moneyis the root of all evil"?

That's in the Bible.

It's in there.- Mm-hmm, mm-hmm,

no it's not.

It's actually a misquotefrom the actual Scripture

which says, "For thelove of money is the root

"of all kinds of evil."- Oh.

So money isn't bad?- Nope, just the love of

money.

- Okay, so this misquote thing

is actually pretty interesting. (laughs)

I have a question.- Ask away.

- So you know that saying,"God will not put more on you

"than what you can bear"?- Yes.

- Is that true, because I feel like

a lotta stuff has happened to me

that was way too much for me to handle.

What's the real Scripture there?

- Well, the actual Scriptureis in 1 Corinthians,

and this is an example of a Scripture

being taken out of context.

- Oh, well what do you mean?

- The actual Scripturetalks about temptations,

not hardships in your life.- Hm.

- The part people oftentake out of context is

"God is faithful and willnot allow the temptation

"to be more than you can stand."

- Oh,

okay, I see.

So, it's saying, "When you're tempted,

"God will show you a way to escape?"

- Exactly.- Uh-huh.

- Serious times will come into your life.

That's why we go toGod in the first place.

Life's too much on our own.

- Amen.

All right, well,

do you have any honorable mentions

for things that aren't in the Bible?

- Hm, oh, how 'bout this one?

"God helps those who help themselves"?

- (laughs) Even I knew thatone wasn't in the Bible.

- Then why'd you ask me, then?

- Don't be rude, Lawrence.

Just like the Good Book says,

"If you don't have anything nice to say,

"don't say it at all."

- Wait a minute, that's not in the Bible.

- His Word is forever alive.
