- And it's done in cases where there may
be severe deformities.
- [Jenna] This is thecontroversial interview
now seen and heard by millions.
- If a mother is in labor, I can tell you,
exactly, what would happen.
The infant would be delivered.
The infant would be kept comfortable.
The infant would be resuscitated,
if that's what the motherand the family desired.
And then a discussion would ensue
between the physicians and the mothers.
- [Jenna] VirginiaGovernor, Ralph Northam,
explaining why hesupports a Democratic bill
that would have allowed abortion up until
the moment of birth.
Saying these types of abortions would
be for deformed or non-viable fetuses.
The bill was ultimately stopped
in the Republican-controlled legislature
after this exchange between lawmakers.
- [Mr. Chairman] Whereit's obvious that a woman
is about to give birth, she has physical signs
that she is about to give a birth,
would that still be a point at which she
could request an abortion
if she was so certified?
She's dilating.
- Mr. Chairman, that would be a decision
that the doctor, thephysician and the woman
would make at that point.
- [Mr. Chairman] I understand.
I'm asking if your bill allows that?
- My bill would allow that, yes.
- So unfortunately, we are seeing so many
more states push for this barbaric
and extreme legislation,really in response
to the new Supreme CourtConservative majority.
- [Jenna] Jenna Ellis, with the Dobson
Family Institute, saysthis is nothing new.
Right now, seven other states have already
passed similar laws.
- That's the one kind of,
I think, encouragement here.
Is that because we're seeing the states
that are progressive left respond to this,
they are anticipating what we at the
James Dobson Family Institute are,
which is that the newConservative majority
is likely to overturn Roe versus Wade
and its progeny withinthe next year or two,
and we're hopeful for that.
- [Jenna] Christianleaders, Conservatives,
and Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill
were quick to condemn the measure.
Senator Benn Sasse was, perhaps,
the most outspoken, releasing a statement,
calling the bill, "Morally repugnant,"
adding, "I don't carewhat party you're from.
"If you can't say that it's wrong
"to leave babies to die after birth,
"get the blank out of public office."
- These decisionsshouldn't be taken lightly.
- [Jenna] Northam, who's is pediatric
neurologist, calls the media attention,
"Blown out of proportion."
But given the outrage among Conservatives
and pro-lifers, not only in Virginia
but across the country,
many would vehemently disagree.
