Routine car maintenance turned into a fight for survival after Sam’s SUV fell on him. But even through excruciating pain, prayer proved greater. Read Transcript

(gentle music)

- Well, welcome to the show.

Thanks for joining us.

Today, we're gonna lead off with politics,

- Yes.- and Republicans

have their eye on midterm elections,

even though we're more than a year away.

They're aiming to retakethe House of Representatives

and possibly the Senate as well.

- Abigail Robertson has this look

at how the 2022 races are shaping up.

- In 2022, Republicansare specifically targeting

57 vulnerable DemocratHouse and Senate seats.

While former President Donald Trump

won't be on the ballot,he's making it clear

he will very much bea part of these races.

- Now for the next 16 months,

we must for every ounce of our energy

into winning a historicvictory in the midterms.

- [Abigail] In a speech at CPAC,

Trump took credit forexpanding the GOP's base.

- [Crowd] Drain that swamp!

- [Abigail] And believes his supporters

will help Republicans win big.

- We will lead the conservative movement

and the Republican Party back to victory,

and it will be a greater victory

than this party has ever had.

- [Abigail] RNC spokesperson Paris Dennard

tells CBN News Trump willdefinitely play a role.

- When it comes to electingRepublican candidates,

his support is important.

- [Abigail] Dennard alsobelieves the key for Republicans

will be recruiting diverse candidates.

- Look at the last election.

We had won over a dozen seats

that we flipped fromDemocrat to Republican.

Those seats were won byeither a Republican woman,

a Republican veteran, ora Republican minority.

- [Abigail] And when asked if the RNC

will support outspoken Trump critics,

like Representatives LizCheney and Adam Kinzinger.

- If they're out of touch or out of step

with where the Republicanconstituents are,

they'll be voted out of office.

- [Abigail] Dennard arguesthe GOP needs to remain united

on the broader goal.

- We have to be focused on making sure

that the Democrats are held accountable.

Republicans need not tohave this party infighting

and this palace intrigue thatthe media just feeds off of.

It does us no good.

- Well, unless Democrats holdtheir majority in the House

and substantially expandtheir majority in the Senate,

it's unclear how much more

of President Biden's agendahe'll be able to accomplish

without working with Republicans.

Gordon.

- Abigail, help us with the math here.

How many seats in theHouse of Representatives

do the Republicans need to gain?

- Well in the House of Representatives,

Republicans just need to flip five seats,

and in the Senate, theyonly need a flip one.

Obviously, they're hopingto flip even more than that

so they have a stronger majority,

but we're gonna seethem really battle hard

to win back the majority in both houses.

- Okay, so tell us,

where are the mainbattleground states for 2022?

- Well, I think I would keepa particularly close eye

on battleground Senate states,

and those are gonna be Georgia, Arizona,

Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, and Nevada.

And there will likely bea lot of national money

poured into those races andpeople are really gonna try hard

to hold their seats or flip them

so that they get themajority in the Senate.

- Have challengers already announced

or are we waiting for announcements?

- Well, we've seen, so far,

a lot of people already hop inthe race, and as Paris said,

Republicans are really trying hard

to once again, in 2022,recruit more diverse candidates

because that's what reallygave them a lot of gains

in the 2020 elections.

But we really won't knowwhich party has the upper hand

and the advantage until states finalize

their congressional districts.

Once we see the district maps

and how some of these districtsare going to be allocated,

then we'll see experts weigh in

on which party might have the advantage.

But in 2020, we saw a lot of these races

won by less than 1%, so Ithink we're likely gonna see

a lot of really close races again.

And again, we're a year outso we don't even really know

what the biggest issuesdriving the midterm elections

are going to be yet.

But I think voter turnout for both parties

is going to be crucial in whoends up winning the majority

in both the House and the Senate.

- I know that New Yorklost a congressional seat

because of the censusand the population count.

At what point in time

are we going to see theredistricting reallocation

to exactly know where the boundaries?

What are we looking for thestate legislatures to do,

and when do they have to do it?

- Well, I think every statehas different deadlines.

I'm sure we're gonna know morein the next months to come,

but it's different state by state.

And I know a lot of thefiling deadlines for the races

come up in January of 2022

as far as when candidates have to jump in,

and I expect by the end of the year,

most states are gonna have it locked up

and we'll know exactlywhat these districts

are going to look like.

- All right.

Well, Abigail, thanks for the insights

and thanks for the latest onwhat is certainly going to be

a very interesting election cycle.

Well you at home, you canalways get the latest news

and more by downloadingthe CBN News Channel app

and stay abreast of these changes.

It's as narrow as it's been in my lifetime

where these majority's are razor thin,

one seat in the Senate,

less than a half dozen inthe House of Representatives.

This is going to be closeand we're going to see

yet another tumultuouselection cycle in America.

Terry.

- Well, up next, COVID hitsa village in Cambodia hard,

shutting down a family'sonly source of income.

So how did they survive?

- You gotta make it.(Terry laughs)

- Or find somebody who does.- Break out the dough hook

and let's go.- There you go.

Well, who created the world?

That question consumed the thoughts

of a young girl in Cambodia.

No one could give her an answer

until she watched an episodeof CBN's "Superbook."

- [Narrator] 11-year-old Chan-Rey

liked getting up gettingup early in the morning

to watch the sun rise overher village in Cambodia.

But as she watched, she saidshe always had a question

in the back of her mind.

- [Interpreter] I wonderedwho created the whole world

and who made the first humans.

I had asked my mom about it.

She said she did not know.

- [Narrator] Then Chan-Rey told us how

just a few weeks before COVID-19 hit,

a friend invited her to church.

- [Interpreter] She saidthey were watching a cartoon

called "Superbook," so I went with her.

- [Narrator] The first morning

that Chan-Rey ever went to church,

the Sunday school class was watching

the "Superbook" episode,"In the Beginning"

about the creation of the world.

- [Interpreter] The story was amazing!

I saw the Spirit of God flying around

and He said, "Let there belight," and there was light.

Then He made made a man from dust

and let them take care of everything.

- [Narrator] After watchingthat "Superbook" episode,

Chan-Rey prayed with herteacher to become a Christian.

She couldn't wait to tell herfamily about what happened.

- [Interpreter] I sharedthe gospel with my parents

and sisters, then Ibrought them to the church.

Now they believe in Jesus too.

- [Narrator] A few weeks later,

the coronavirus pandemic hit Cambodia.

All schools and churches were closed

and the country was locked down.

- [Interpreter] Since March,my parents could not find

any jobs to make money.

We did not have food at times.

Sometimes my mom borrowedrice from my grandma.

- [Narrator] Chan-Rey and her mom, Soreen,

began to pray for their needs.

Soreen said that's when Orphan's Promise,

working through their church, brought food packs, rice,

and other groceries to her family.

She said no one had everhelped them like that before.

- [Interpreter] This issuch a big blessing from God

for our family.

- [Narrator] The food packswill last up to two months.

- [Interpreter] Thankyou for giving me food

in the season of COVID.

And thank you for "Superbook,"

which helped me to know Jesus.

I know now that God is the Creator.

- Well, up next, a truck slips off a jack

and right on top of this woman's husband.

And then God shows up in their driveway.

You have to see this to believe it.

We'll be praying for you.

Don't go away.

(inspirational music)

Sam Wallen was as good as dead.

He had been flattened, crushed under an SUV.

Emergency personnel said hisinjuries were not survivable.

So how is Sam alive today?

You're about to find out.

(tense music)

(woman screaming)

- [Dispatcher] This is9-1-1. What's your emergency.

- [Sister] I need an ambulance.

- What's going on?- A Suburban,

a Suburban fell on my brother.

He is not in good shape.

Please hurry.

Please!

(phone beeps)

- [Narrator] October 1, 2016.

Amber Wallen was talkingto her sister-in-law

in the driveway when she heard a crash.

(vehicle clunks)

Amber sprinted to the garage,

where she found her husband, Sam,

pinned under the SUVhe had been working on.

Her sister-in-law called 9-1-1.

Amber grabbed a floor jack,

trying to lift the 3 1/2-tonvehicle off of her husband.

- I started trying to jack it up

and I was screaming andpraying at the top of my lungs.

I remember thinking, "This isit, this is it, this is it,"

and I was like, "Lord, this can't be it.

This cannot be it.

I'm not ready. I'm not done."

- [Narrator] Finally, Ambergot the vehicle high enough

to pull Sam, who wasunconscious, to safety.

- His ears were bleeding, his eyes were bleeding,

his nose and his mouth was bleeding.

I mean, he was bleeding everywhere.

"Lord, I just need him to come back

and I need breath back in his body,

and if you could just give him," (sobs)

"if you could just give him breath

so that he would have lifeand just please let him stay

and let him know who we are.

My kids need him. I need him."

(woman sobbing)

- [Sister] All right, they're almost here.

- Okay.I hear it coming, I hear it.

- [Narrator] Firemen andparamedics arrived on the scene

and rushed Sam and Amberto a nearby hospital.

- The EMT kept tellingme, "I know he's alive,

but this is not really survivable.

We don't know what theextent of his injuries are

and I don't want youto get your hopes up."

- [Narrator] In the ER, doctors determined

both of Sam's lungs were collapsed

and he had a crushed sternumand seven broken ribs.

He had also lost his vision.

Sam was put under heavysedation and intubated.

- He was very serious, potentially a fatal injury

and procedures need to bedone quickly in those patients

in order to save their lives.

- [Narrator] With her husbandin critical condition,

Amber sent out a call for prayer.

- All I kept clinging to was,

"God heard my prayer in thatdriveway and He is here."

There was no backup plan.

There was no Plan B, therewas no anything else.

I needed God to do what I asked Him to do,

and I had the faith that He would.

There was an immense sense ofpeace that just came over us

as if God was just takingcare of everything.

- [Narrator] Nurse Athenaoffered to pray as well.

- "I'm here.

I'm still praying for you.

I may be going home.

If you would like forme to pray for you here,

I will do that, but I'm alwayskeeping you in my prayers."

- [Narrator] Doctors ordered an MRI

to check for brainbleeds and heart damage.

Afterwards, Sam was taken to the ICU.

He was conscious and awareof what had happened.

He still couldn't see, butmore importantly to Amber.

- Once he knew who I was andhe had the cognitive ability

to talk to me, I knew, no matter what,

we were gonna be okay.

- [Narrator] As for Sam.

- If I was gonna be blind, then I was gonna be blind.

After I had came back and Irealized that I was still alive,

I honestly didn't have the first thought

of "I might die" after that.

I heard from other people

that "Oh, he might not make it."

In my mind, I felt perfectly fine.

I was completely at peace.

- [Narrator] The MRI scan showed

that Sam's heart and brain were undamaged.

For the next several days,Sam surprised the staff

as he continued to improve.

- "We just have to waitand see how he heals,

and we just have to," but their timeline,

Sam was exceeding theirtimeline at every milestone.

- [Narrator] By the thirdday in the hospital,

Sam had regained his vision.

And after just six days,he was off the ventilator

and able to go home.

His ribs and sternumwould take time to heal,

but as Amber would remind her husband,

the main thing was he was alive.

- "We got a lot more than we prayed for

because I prayed if Godwould just let me keep you,

it didn't matter whatkind of shape you were in.

And here you are, ableto walk around and work

and take care of us and still be here."

- [Narrator] Within weeks,Sam was back at work,

and today, remains active and healthy.

His occasional aches andpains serve as a reminder

of what's important in life

and just how far the Lord brought him.

- There was no doubt in my mind

that God was there the whole time.

We had so many people praying for us

that we didn't even knowduring that whole time

of us being in thehospital and healing up.

The power of prayer is amazing.

- Prayer truly does change things.

And if He can show up in our driveway,

He can show up in anybody's driveway.

For us, God showed us who He was.

(Amber and Sam cheer)

- And He'll show up for you.

That's a wonderful promise.

It's a promise that Jesus gave.

He said, "I will manifest myself to them."

Isn't that, that's to you.

You're part of that.

He wants to show up.

He wants to manifest.

It's a great declaration,

"God heard my prayer in that driveway."

How did she know that?

How did she know that God had heard?

Well, the Bible's real specific

about how we know when God hears.

When we pray in accordance with His will,

we know that He hears us.

And when we know that He hears us,

we know that we havewhat we're asking for.

Now, you've got a question.

I know you got, thereare always questions.

There are always doubts about did God say.

That's not new.

What is God's will,

and how do you pray inaccordance with God's will?

It's real simple.

Jesus spelled it out forus in the Lord's Prayer:

"Thy kingdom come,

thy will be done on earthas it is in heaven."

Now think about heaven.

Does anybody have a crushinjury from an SUV in heaven?

The answer's no.

No.

So we see that.

And with that, we nowunderstand God's will.

It's no longer a question.

It's no longer thatfaith-defeating prayer,

"Lord, if it be your will."

We know what His will isbecause we see it in heaven.

And we are authorized as His ambassadors

to command it here onearth, to pray that His will

would be done on earth as it is in heaven.

What great power has been given to us

as believers in Jesus Christ.

What great access we haveto the throne of grace.

All we have to do ispray, and pray believing,

pray seeing God's will in heaven,

and then receive it here on earth.

Now, Terry and I aregetting ready to pray.

Before we pray, we've gottwo testimonies for you.

One's from Instagram:

"Two years ago, my pastor prayed

for the migraine headaches I would get.

Since then, I have not had one migraine.

Thank you, Jesus Christ.

Amen and amen!"

- [Terry] Well, here's anothergood report from YouTube.

Anna writes, "God healedme from an ovarian cyst.

Thank you, Jesus."

- Let these testimonies encourage you.

That's the power of testimony.

You overcome all kinds of evil

by the word of your testimony.

Isn't that incredible? It's the word.

When you start proclaiming God's victory,

the victory over sin and death,

the victory over every kind of disease,

the victory that we have in Him,

that He forgives all your iniquities

and He heals all your diseases,

well, let's just bless the Lord, O my soul

because of all thewonderful things He has done

and is doing and will do.

When you have that, you're seeing God's will,

you're praying inaccordance with His will.

So let's do that and let'sreceive for you right now.

Lord, we lift everyonewho is facing emergency,

everyone who needs ahealing in their body.

We come into agreement withthem, touching it right now.

We say out loud, behealed and be made whole.

Let every soul who istroubled be still right now,

knowing that you have our future,

that you're working allthings together for our good.

So Lord, we see your will.

We pray in accordance with your will.

We pray healing into everybody right now.

We pray the answer to every human need,

into every life right now.

We receive it in Jesus' name.

Terry, God's given you

something.- Yeah,

I believe this is for a man,

but if you're a woman andthis applies to you, claim it.

You had an injury or some kind

that has sort of torn your muscle

in a particular area of your body.

I'm gonna even use theword, like shredded.

And it's so painful

and it's a very long-terminjury they are saying.

But today, God is healingyou from this condition.

Just lift up your hands.

Believe this is yours.

Take it and begin topraise Him in Jesus' name.

- There's someone, you've had an injury

to your right ear and jawand it's from a baseball bat,

somehow or other, a baseball bat.

I don't know if it wasintentional or an accident,

but a baseball bat cameand hit you in that ear.

God is healing it right now.

He's able to knit togethereven the tiny little bones.

- Yeah.

- Everything is possible with God.

Just believe it right now.

That pain just left you.

The swelling is going down.

Everything is being restored

because God wants to revealHis glory through you.

- Amen.- Receive it now.

In Jesus' name, amen and amen.

If you've been healed, let us know,

Let us share your good report.

Give us a call, 1-800-700-7000.

"Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly

abundantly above all we ask or think,

according to the power that works in us."
