- Well, joining me nowvia Skype is Sheila Walsh.
Sheila, you've written somany books about prayer,
but you say this latestbook that you've written,
let me grab it here 'causeit's so pretty to look at,
"Praying Girls Devotional."
Bet you wish you'd have thiswhen you were young? Why?
- Because I think, Terry,
I thought I always had tobe perfect to come to God.
I thought I had to,
that you came to God whenyou were in a good place,
but if you were in a darkplace, if you were struggling,
if you were sad, if you were angry,
then you had to kind of clean yourself up
before you came to God.
And what I've learned over theyears and continue to learn
is that God's arms are open wide.
I loved what Gordon just saidthere about the mercy seat.
That that's where the blood was sprinkled.
And that's what I've learned.
That we get to come to the mercy seat.
And because of whatChrist has already done,
we get to come as we are,not as we wish we were.
- How do you think that thepandemic has affected kids
and their need for prayer
because there's been so much isolation,
and, well, even just thewhole fear of everything,
how has it impacted young women?
- Yeah, I think it'sbeen really devastating
for so many young people.
We had a thing, a friendof mine last week,
her 13-year-old son took his own life
and they didn't even knowthat he was struggling,
but somehow this isolation,
not being able to be with his friends,
not being able to connect, feeling lonely, fearing,
you know, what is my future now?
Will I ever be able to goproperly back to school?
Will I ever be able to see my friends?
And obviously that's the more extreme end.
But just talking to someof my friend's daughters
who are, 12, 13, 14, 15,there are very real fears
of what is my life going to look like?
And one of the things I'vebeen saying to them is,
"Look, even when churches are closed,
even when schools are closed,
the mercy seat is not closed.
God is open for business 24/7."
- You mentioned thesignificance of connecting
and many girls don'tknow how to begin that.
Especially praying outloud, even alone to God.
How do you help them pray
when they don't seem to knowwhere to begin that process?
- You know, honestly,Terry, that's when I began
with the whole thing ofeven just writing the book,
"Praying Women" I didand then "Praying Girls."
I found that I actuallyasked the Holy Spirit,
"Where do I need to payattention in my own life?"
'Cause I love Bible study. It's my hobby.
I love diving deep, but prayer,
the Holy Spirit said,"We've got some work to do."
- Well, while I've gottime, I want to say,
