'This World Has Lost a Light in the Darkness': Iconic Christian Music Artist Carman Dies After Health Crisis

- [Caitlin] Tributes are pouring in
from those whose livesand faith were influenced
by iconic Christian artist Carman.
Christian hiphop artistTobyMac tweeting out,
"You were so kind tome, Michael and Kevin.
"When we were youngpunks, you welcomed us.
"You are home now."
Two-time Grammy winner
and Christian music artistJason Crabb said, quote,
"He was a trendsetter and a trailblazer
"who had a vision to impact his audience
"with groundbreakingmusic and storytelling
"through powerful, cinematic videos,
"all with one purpose, topoint people to Jesus."
Rascal Flatts member Jay DeMarcus
recalled touring with Carman in the '90s,
saying of his friend,
"It would be hard tofathom how many millions
"were led to Christ throughhis music and ministry.
"He will be missed but never forgotten."
Back in 2013, Carman was diagnosed
with incurable multiple myeloma cancer.
He experienced several years of recovery
before reporting last yearthat the cancer had returned.
- When they told me that Ihad multiple myeloma cancer,
I'm like, (exhales sharply)
it didn't hit me likeothers might think it would
'cause I thought, "Well,if I've done my part,
"if I've fulfilled mypurpose, if I've run my course
"and this is how I exit, then so be it."
- [Caitlin] Three weeks ago,he underwent hernia surgery
and his team reported thatbecause of the affects of cancer,
his body was having ahard time recovering.
In announcing Carman'sdeath on February 16th,
his manager, Matt Felts, said,
"This world has lost alight in the darkness,
"but today Carman saw firsthand the fruits of his labors."
Among other awards andhonors, Carman was inducted
into the GMA Gospel MusicHall of Fame in 2018.
But those who knew him say hisgreatest lifetime achievement
was winning souls to Christ.
