but she dreaded going to schoolbecause of her cleft lip.
(Few speaks in foreign language)
- [Interpreter] Some kids said I'm ugly.
They made fun of me.
When I couldn't take it, I tried to hide.
Sometimes, I didn't wanna go to school.
- [Narrator] Few's parents workas rice farmers in Myanmar.
Ever since their daughter was born,
they've tried to save to pay for surgery,
but their combined wages of just $4 a day
have made that task impossible.
(mother speaks in foreign language)
- [Interpreter] Whenpeople mock my daughter,
I get so upset.
It hurts me when they laugh at her.
- [Narrator] Eight year old Mian
has watched her sister suffer.
- [Interpreter] My sister cry
when other kids make fun of her.
When that happens, Iwant to be there for her.
- [Narrator] Then, there areFew's physical challenges,
of eating and drinking.
- [Interpreter] She chokesand the food and water
spill out of her mouth and nose.
That makes me cry, but I tryto hide my tears from her.
- [Narrator] A pastor told the family
about Operation Blessing.
We quickly arranged forFew to travel to the city
to receive free cleft palate surgery.
The operation was successfuland Few soon had a new smile.
- [Interpreter] When I look inthe mirror, I feel so happy.
