Who was the real genius behind Chick-fil-a? Trudy Cathy White, daughter of founder Truett Cathy has the answer that may surprise you. Plus, escaping the inferno of a burning home was only the beginning of the life-and-death struggle for one husband. Read Transcript

- [Announcer] The followingprogram is sponsored by CBN.

- [Gordon] Coming up.

Her dad may have inventedthe chicken sandwich,

but who was the realgenius behind Chick-fil-A?

Then.

- [Amanda] It took him all but two seconds

to realize what was going on.

- [Gordon] Trapped inside an inferno.

- He said, "There's a fire."

- [Gordon] And surroundedby flames and smoke.

- [Amanda] It's like you hit a brick wall.

- [Gordon] A dramaticescape from a burning home.

- In Jesus' name, he's going to live.

- On today's "700 Club."

(flames crackle)

(dramatic music)

Welcome to "The 700 Club."

China needs to come clean onthe origin of the coronavirus.

That's what Secretary of StateMike Pompeo told CBN News

in an exclusive interview.

- The Secretary also would not rule out

that China, Iran, and Russia

could be behind a nastydisinformation campaign

blaming the United States for the virus.

Here's CBN's David Brody.

- [David] With an invisible virus

that has engulfed the world,

Secretary of State MikePompeo has his hands full.

First and foremost, getting answers from China.

Are they telling the truthabout the origin of the virus?

And if not, what elsemight they be hiding.

That's where we started our conversation.

Do you believe the ChineseCommunist Party is lying

to the world right now?

- David, it's incredibly important,

even as we sit here today, that we get to the bottom

of what transpired and thatthe Chinese Communist Party

come clean about how this all began.

Look, we know it started in Wuhan, China.

That's the origination of the virus.

We need to figure out how it happened.

It's not just about politicalretribution or accountability.

It's important today.

We need to know this so wecan save lives going forward.

We need our scientists, our academics,

our epidemiologists all tohave access to the data,

access to a sample of the virus,

access to the placesit might have come to.

Those are all things that matter

so that we can solve this problem,

get our country back towork, and save lives.

- Pompeo says it doesn't help

with countries likeChina, Russia, and Iran

all pushing bogus theoriesabout how the virus started,

like from US troops oran Amerian bioweapon

being used for political purposes.

Is this a coordinatedeffort by those countries?

- Well it's hard toknow the answer to that.

What you can say is they're observing

what the others are doing andthey're responding in a group.

That is, they are takinginformation being provided by one,

and others are promoting itonline and elsewhere too.

This information, David,

this disinformation campaign matters.

The American people, people all across the world

go to sources to get information,

information for their safety,

information for their health

and that of their family members.

It is nasty when a governmentruns a disinformation campaign

and it puts those people's lives at risk

and their health at risk.

And these governments need to stop

and they need to stop doing itin a coordinated way as well

if that's what's actually taking place.

- So you're not necessarilydiscounting the fact

that it could be a coordinated effort.

You say more investigationis needed on this then.

- We see very similar messages propagated

by a very similar means.

It's difficult to knowthe level of coordination.

- What Pompeo does know isthe World Health Organization

botched its role in protecting citizens.

That led the president

to temporarily stop providing funding.

What would get the WHOback in good standing

with the United States at this point?

I mean, in other words, what needs to happen?

- Well David, it's hard to know.

It's important that yourviewers understand the history

of the World Health Organization as well.

This is not the firsttime that that institution

has failed to protect the world.

You may recall SARS.

The same kind of thing happened,

where the WHO was unableto do its primary function,

stopping a pandemic fromspreading across the world.

And this time, they wereunable to, you can see it.

They said, "Don't close your borders."

President Trump madethe decision to do that

and keep American people safe.

They were too slow in declaringthat this was something

that could transmit from human to human.

Those are the kind of thingsthat the WHO has failed in.

- [David] Democrats say it'sthe Trump administration

that failed to take earlyaction against the virus.

Recently, the presumptiveDemocrat nominee for president,

Joe Biden, said he would havesent health experts to China.

Pompeo strenuouslypushed back against that.

- This president and thisadministration worked diligently

to work to get Americans onthe ground there in China

to help the World Health Organization

try to get in there as well.

We were rebuffed.

The Chinese governmentwouldn't let it happen.

- [David] And then he lowered the boom.

- The previousadministration allowed China

to walk all over us and gaintrade, grant opportunities,

create wealth and tradebenefits for China.

This president's taken fundamentally

a 180 degrees different approach

with respect to how werespond to the challenges

that China presents to American security.

- So you're suggesting thatthe previous administration

was soft on China or dealing with them?

- Relative to this administration, they were wildly soft.

- This administration hasbeen anything but soft

on the country of Iran.

This week, the regimeprovocatively launched

a military satellite into orbit

and President Trumpordered America's military

to sink any Iranianboats harassing US ships.

You said that Iran needsto be held accountable

for what they've done.

How exactly might that happengoing forward, Mr. Secretary?

- What we intend to do

is to gather the nations across the world.

The French put out a statement today.

They, too, know how dangerous

and destabilizing what Iran did.

I'm confident that therewill now be more countries

that understand whatPresident Trump has understood

since he first came into office,

that the Iran deal was a crazy, bad deal,

that we all need to move away from it,

that the world needs todisassociate itself from Iran,

and that the community ofnations needs to come together

and convince the Iranianregime to cease their activity,

which has led to thembeing the world's largest

state sponsor of terror for so many years.

- [David] Given terrorthreats in key regions,

plus a hidden enemy threatening the world,

this Secretary faces a challengenot seen in generations.

David Brody, CBN News, Washington.

- Well we're all facing the challenge,

but part of this challenge isthis disinformation campaign.

It was started out of China andthe Chinese foreign minister

is suspect number one in this.

He claimed that the virusstarted with a US serviceman

who was in China forsome Ironman competition,

a completely bogus story, andhe's since backed off of it,

but that's been the narrative,

and that narrative has takenoff and has been replicated

and they're using tactics, tactics that, unfortunately,

we're all too familiar with in terms

of planting this kindof story in social media

and in news outlets and, apparently,

there're people more than willing

to try to trash the United States in this.

And so if you hear this story,

that somehow or other,it's a military weapon

invented in the United Statesand it was planted in China,

all this kind of thing, as an American,

you look at it and you laugh at it.

But realize, I got a report yesterday,

in the streets of Mexico, they are earnestly believe,

the people earnestly believethat this virus started

in a laboratory in the United States.

This kind of disinformation

is long-term damaging toour foreign interests,

to the interests of theUnited States people,

and this is a serious matter.

In other news, Vice President Mike Pence

says the worst of the coronavirus epidemic

may be behind us by early summer.

John Jessup has that story

from our CBN news bureau in Washington.

John.

- That's right, Gordon.

The Vice President's optimistic statement

comes as states are getting ready

to gradually re-open their economies.

And there is some good news

about the impact ofheat on the coronavirus.

George Thomas has that story.

- [George] In Georgia today, life is getting back to normal.

Gyms, hair salons, even bowling alleys

are open for business, with modifications.

- We are not using our snack bar.

We're not using our lounge.

- [George] Georgia's fast re-opening

has drawn criticism from the president,

who strongly disagrees with it

along with numerous lawmakers.

Other states also plan to re-open,

but under a more gradual,phased-in approach,

as recommended by the administration.

- At the present moment,

16 states have releasedformal re-opening plans.

- [George] The White Housealso encourages all states

to restart electivesurgeries whenever possible.

And promising news.

New research by the Departmentof Homeland Security

shows the coronavirus dies quickly

when exposed to heat and humidity.

Add sunlight, and it dies even faster.

- In the summer, we knowthat summer-like conditions

are going to create an environment

where the transmission can be decreased,

and that's an opportunityfor us to get ahead.

- [George] But he sayswarm weather should replace

enhanced hand-washing,mask-wearing, or social distancing,

which President Trump says he may extend

until early summer orbeyond based on conditions

across the condition.

- I think people are gonnaknow just out of common sense.

At some point, we won't have to do that.

But until we feel it's safe,we're going to be extending.

- [George] The same government lab

also tested disinfectants,

finding bleach kills thevirus in five minutes.

Isopropyl alcohol kills it in 30 seconds.

- If we continue these mitigation efforts

in the days ahead, as statesimplement their policies,

including phased re-openingthat will preserve those gains,

we do believe by early summer,

we could be in a muchbetter place as a nation,

with much of this coronavirusepidemic behind us.

- And we're still learning more

about the origins of the virus.

A new study published by researchers

at Hong Kong Universityreveals four times more people

were infected in China thanthe official numbers released

by the Chinese government.

George Thomas, CBN News.

- Thanks, George.

Well even as anxiety aboutthe spread of COVID-19

has been rising, new technologypromises to help contain it.

But at what cost?

Senior WashingtonCorrespondent Jennifer Wishon

looks at what Americansmay have to give up

in order to track the virus.

- For the first time during a pandemic,

most Americans carry apotential superpower.

In addition to asmartphone's many purposes,

the very latest couldbecome a personal biolab.

- [Protesters] No more tyranny.

- As pressure mountsfor states to re-open,

technology will soon tell us

who's at risk of catching COVID-19.

In Connecticut, a policedepartment is testing a drone

designed to monitor people'stemperatures, heart,

and respiratory rates.

It can also detect sneezingand coughing in a crowd.

Meanwhile, Facebook offeringan opt-in symptom survey,

asking users to report ifthey have a fever, cough,

or shortness of breath.

The social media giantthen mapping responses

from millions of Americans.

This as Apple and Google develop a system

to measure your risk bytracing your contacts.

With these apps, as your phone's Bluetooth

comes into contact with other phones,

they share strings of numbers.

If you then test positive for COVID-19,

your phone can alert those phones.

The companies maintain

your identifying informationwill be protected.

- It's an amazing thing,but a lot of people

have some very bigconstitutional problems with it.

- [Jennifer] The WhiteHouse Coronavirus Task Force

is considering the implications.

During crises like after 9/11,

Americans often preferprotection over civil liberty,

but experts warn it's a slippery slope.

- COVID-19 is very scary andissues of privacy and things

are easy to fall by the waysideand very hard to recover

once they're compromised.

- [Jennifer] As companiesre-open their doors,

people may feel pressureto use this new technology

to maintain their livelihoods.

- There could be employerswho say you can't come to work

unless you show your app,

or grocery stores who do the same things,

or maybe you can't get benefits,

like the unemployment benefits,

unless you can prove you have that app.

- [Jennifer] Testifyingbefore senators this month,

law professor Ryan Calo said:

A foreign operative whowished to sow chaos,

an unscrupulous political operative

who wished to dampenpolitical participation,

or a desperate business owner

who sought to shut down the competition,

all could use self-reported instances

of COVID-19 to achieve their goals.

- The problem here is we don'thave a federal privacy law,

so this has to comefrom written agreements

with tech companies, withapplication developers,

with governments.

What we'd much rather see

is these principles enshrined in law.

- [Jennifer] Laws, shesays, with guarantees,

only necessary data is collected

that's used for a specificpurpose and then deleted.

And since technology usually moves

much faster than government,Cheng suggests lawmakers

stick to the basics.

- So what we need to startfrom are our principles,

which hopefully haven't changed, that we value individuals,

we value privacy, we value rights,

we have rights of appealand things like that.

- Cheng says, for lawmakers, there is a delicate balance

between keeping people safeand allowing them to be free.

Jennifer Wishon, CBNNews, Woodstock, Virginia.

- Thanks, Jennifer.

Gordon, I was reading thismorning, police in Israel

stopped using mobile phone location data

out of privacy concerns.

- Well that's a good news.

You read the book of Revelation,

you read some of the things in the Bible,

the prophecies about the last days,

and you do wonder howcould all this happen.

But here we have very serious people

talking about, you can'tgo into a grocery store

unless you can show aparticular app on your phone

and you can't buy or sell.

These things are literallymaterializing before our eyes.

What we thought couldn'thappen is now happening,

and that's leading touncertainty, anxiety, and fear.

All of these things, all of these feelings

and more have been in our livessince the COVID-19 breakout.

It seems like a long time ago,

but when you look at it,it's just a few weeks.

And already, it seems likewe're in times of desperation.

So the question is: Wherecan we turn for help?

Well the answers to today's crisis

can be found in scriptureswritten 3,000 years ago.

Listen to the words ofKing David from Psalm 20.

(soft music)

May the Lord answer youin the day of trouble.

May the name of the Godof Jacob defend you.

May he send you help from the sanctuary

and strengthen you out of Zion.

May he remember all your offerings

and accept your burnt sacrifice.

May he grant you accordingto your heart's desire

and fulfill all your purpose.

(gentle music)

We will rejoice in your salvation,

and in the name of our God,we will set up our banners.

May the Lord fulfill all your petitions.

Now I know that theLord saves his anointed.

He will answer him from his holy heaven

with the saving strengthof his right hand.

Some trust in chariots and some in horses,

but we will remember thename of the Lord our God.

They have bowed down and fallen,

but we have risen and stand upright.

Save, Lord, may the kinganswer us when we call.

Still ahead, behind thesuccess of Chick-fil-A.

The daughter of the fast food founder

tells us the inside secretsof her family business.

Plus, scorched and nearly suffocated.

Third degree burns on 90% of his body.

How did this man survive?

That's coming up.

(inspirational music)

(dramatic music)

The COVID-19 pandemichas cratered the economy,

and the White House has vowedto spend whatever it takes

to help Americans' recovery.

Well now, four relief billsand almost $3 trillion later,

some analysts are warningabout future consequences

from the unprecedented spending.

CBN News Capitol HillCorrespondent Abigail Robertson

brings us more on who'ssounding the alarm.

- Before the ink was even dry

on the latest multi-billiondollar aid package this week,

talks in Congress were already underway

for more mammoth spending.

Now, Senate MajorityLeader Mitch McConnell

says it's time to pump the brakes.

- My view is we've gone sofar on the national debt here

that the next time we address this issue,

the Senate should be back insession fully up and running

with everybody involved in the discussion.

- [Abigail] House Speaker Nancy Pelosi

is ready to get to work on another bill

aimed at helping the heroes.

- We have healthcareworkers, transit workers,

police, fire, EMS, allkinds of public employees

who risked their lives to save lives

and now lose their jobs, andthis is most unfortunate.

- [Abigail] But McConnellis urging his colleagues

to consider future implications

and assess what's workingfrom the previous bills.

- Unless we get our economyup and running again,

there's not any way we can spend enough

to continue to prop up the country.

- [Abigail] The $2.8 trillion price tag

of the relief bills thusfar sparked this warning

from Republican Senator Rand Paul.

- The gargantuan federalbailout that just passed

over $2 trillion bringsus closer and closer

to a point of no return, a point at which

the world loses confidence in the dollar,

a point at which our debtbecomes an existential threat

to our security.

- [Abigail] Paul agrees with McConnell

that re-opening the economyis the only way out.

- No amount of money, notall of the money in China,

will save us from ourselves.

Our only help of rescuingthis great country

is to re-open the economy.

- [Abigail] PresidentTrump says he's concerned

with the growing debt, but therehasn't been another choice.

- I'm always concerned about everything.

We had to fix this problem.

We were attacked.

- With the latest roundof small business loans

likely to run out as quickly as the first,

lawmakers are hoping thatclarified language in the new bill

will ensure that the money truly goes

to the businesses that need it most.

Reporting from Washington,Abigail Robertson, CBN News.

- Let's take a few minutes totalk about economic theories.

I know that sounds remarkablyboring, but this is the theory

behind what the governmentis currently doing.

And I agree with the president.

We're in emergency right now.

I've been talking about the size

of the federal deficit for years,

saying we've got to stopspending so much money,

and we're now at 25 trillion, and just a few weeks ago,

it was 22 trillion, sowe've added three trillion

to the deficit.

How are we doing that?

Because we're not gettingit from tax revenue.

How we're doing it is something called

modern monetary theory, MMT.

And unless you think this issome kind of esoteric thing,

Representative Cortez proposed

that MMT be the solutionfor her Green New Deal,

and then, one of the top economic advisors

to Bernie Sanders' presiential campaign

is an MMT theorist.

So keep in mind,

politicians are really payingattention to this theory.

Now, it's an unorthodox economic theory.

Traditional economics doesn't follow MMT.

It's an offshoot of Keynes, and essentially, what it says

is the federal government is a money tree.

If you control your currency,

you get to print your currency, and so,

I grew up with a father telling me

do I think money grows on trees,

and what's really happeningat the federal government

is yes, indeed, money does grow on trees

because we get to print itand we control our currency.

Right now, the US dollar

is the defacto currency for the world.

And we control that, wecontrol how many dollars

are in circulation atany one point in time.

And, as a result, we get to print,

and we can print our way out of a deficit,

we can print our way out of this crisis,

but that then can createproblems for your currency.

And the big risk here isdevaluing your currency

and starting into an inflationary spiral.

You don't have to looktoo far away for his.

100 years ago, inGermany, after World War I

and what the winners of thatwar extracted from Germany,

they couldn't pay thatbill and so they started

to print their way out of it.

Well it absolutely cratered their economy

and then led to a dictator.

And that's what happens and has happened

since the first democracies in Greece.

When you look back at Greece democracies,

they would go from democracyto tyranny on a regular cycle.

The trigger point for that waswhen the people figured out

that they could votethemselves the treasury

and they could have unlimitedfunds come personally to them

from their government.

Whenever that happened, italways turned to tyranny

because you eventually run out of money

and you eventually run outof confidence in your money.

Here's how MMT works.

Treasury borrows from the Federal Reserve.

So you have a CentralBank, the Federal Reserve,

and the Treasury issues bonds

which the Federal Reserve then buys.

There's no money actuallytransmitted between them.

We're not printing currency andshipping truckloads of money

over to the Federal Reserve.

What's happening is anelectronic transfer.

But if we can go back to that slide,

what comes back from thatbond is the Federal Reserve

can't keep any of theinterest and profits,

so it's like you're loaningyourself a sum of money

and you're paying interest on it

but then you get the interest back.

So that's what's really happening.

We're printing money,we're creating free money.

Under MMT, traditional banking

is when you get enoughdeposits from people

that trust that you're ableto keep their loans for them.

Traditional banking means

that deposits then in turn create loans,

which then allow businesses to expand,

people to buy homes andcars and that kind of thing.

Under MMT banking theloans create the deposits.

So when you hear the Federal Reserve

is expanding its balancesheet, what it's really doing

is adding more currency, more money into the system

so that the federal governmentcan then issue these checks

to people and to businessesand make those loans

so the SBA can loan to small businesses.

When you add $3 trillion from it,

you're actually devaluing yourcurrency by that same amount.

Now the issue is when is the market,

that means what you and I believe,

when is the market going to wake up

that there're more dollars right now,

and so the dollars I used to have

are pretty much automatically worth less.

As long as the economy is cratering

and there's no business expansion,

there's not gonna be any inflation.

But if it ever comes roaring back

and you still have thatexcess money supply,

well that money's goingto start chasing things

and the prices are going to go up,

and that's what startsthat inflationary spiral.

How long do we have?

I don't know, and Idon't think anyone knows.

Is it at 30 trillion?

Is it at 40 trillion?

At what point in timedoes this thing crater?

But the cycles from history,

we need to look at themand we need to learn them.

When democracies figure out

you can vote yourself the treasury,

and all of our entitlement programs,

all our bailout programs,

all of these things aredemocracies figuring out

we can vote ourselves the treasury.

And then you add to it,

well, let's have freemedical care for everyone

and let's do Green NewDeals and all these things,

the next step, it's certain from history,

the next step is always tyranny.

Terry.

- Well up next, his business tanked,

so this man took his anger out on God.

What message did his maker send him?

Find out.

That's coming up.

Plus, a woman dreamsthat she's suffocating

and wakes up to the realitythat her house is on fire.

See how her husband'sheroic actions save her

while making him a human torch.

(dramatic music)

(inspirational music)

- Bruce and Sharon Barnes

were running a thriving company,

but then they lost a huge contract bid

and their business was tanking.

Bruce started blamingGod for their misfortune,

and instantly, God sent him a message.

- [Andrew] Bruce and SharonBarnes are the owners

of the BG Construction Company.

They started more than 30 years ago

doing small residential jobs.

- The first job that weever had as BG Construction,

it was only a $250 job.

- [Andrew] Business was slow,

and soon, the Barnes were in debt.

- Bruce and I were bothyoung and we had children.

It was week-to-week to payour bills, to buy groceries.

- And all I knew was that therewere seven days in a week,

24 hours in a day, and I had to work

because I had three daughters at the time

and we had to make it happen.

- [Andrew] Despite the hard times,

they put God first in their giving.

- Whatever we had in theweek, we gave some of that.

We gave some of that.

And God just continued tobless us and it began to grow.

We went to $1,000 jobs, $5,000 jobs,

and they kept getting bigger and bigger.

- [Andrew] Their businesscontinued to thrive, but in 1994,

they found themselvesworrying about money again

after they lost out on alucrative contract bid.

- And then I started fussing to God.

I was kinda like, "God, weshould've got that thing.

"You know we did this and this and this."

And then God just spoketo me just like that.

He said, "You need torealize that I'm your source,

"not all these contractorsthat you bid to."

And that's when thispeace just came over me.

- We knew that God hadjust removed that striving,

that, you know, it's upto us to make it happen,

but that he was gonna bring us through.

- [Andrew] Two weekslater, Bruce got a call

and was offered a sub-contractor job.

That one job alone was to morethan meet his business needs

for the next three years.

- The more we wereblessed, the more we gave.

- [Andrew] The couple increasedtheir giving over the years,

and as a result, theysay God has continued

to increase their business.

One of the ministries they support is CBN.

- They go overseas withall the stuff that they do.

It's an outreach I can't go to personally,

but I can help financefor other people to go.

- [Andrew] Today, theBarnes are debt-free.

They encourage others totrust God and give as well.

- I would tell people thathe hasn't done anything

for Sharon and I thathe can't do for them,

but you've gotta be willingto step out on faith,

you've gotta trust him,and you've gotta sow seed.

- If you just start with asmall amount and start giving,

you'll see how it changes your life.

- Here's a spiritual principle

I wish all peopleeverywhere would memorize.

It's from the gospel of John, the third chapter, verse 27,

"No one can receive anything

"unless God gives it from heaven."

Realize that.

God is your source.

And for Bruce, he started complaining.

He started complainingabout this circumstance.

He should've gotten the bid.

He should've gotten the contract.

He should've gotten this.

And God had to remindhim, "I'm your source."

When you understand this, whenyou get the principle right,

that God's the source, wellthen actually things become easy

and you stop your striving.

This isn't an excuse to not be diligent

and to not work hard and to do your part.

Those are all essentials.

But when you start that anxious wondering

and worrying and all those things,

you're showing yourselfthat God is not your source.

Realize that he wants to provide for you.

He wants to be a generous Father.

He wants to supply all your need

according to his riches and glory.

What is he waiting for?

Well he's waiting for youto show your faith in him,

to lean into him, to rely on him,

and you can show that very tangibly

when you start to sow seed.

With your tithe and offerings,

you show, "God, I'm all in it with you.

"You're my only source.

"You're the way forward."

When you do that and you do that tangibly,

wonderful things will happen,

and this promise will come true for you.

He will open the windows of heaven

and pour out a blessing you can't contain.

And then he adds to it.

He will rebuke the devourer for your sake.

He will come to your aid.

All you have to do is do it his way.

If you'd like to start doing that,

give us a call, 1-800-700-7000,

and say, "Yes, I want to start tithing,

"I want to start giving, I wantto start having offerings."

- Welcome back to Washingtonfor this CBN Newsbreak.

Celebrations scheduled in San Remo, Italy

honoring a major milestone

leading to the creation of modern Israel

were canceled because ofthe coronavirus outbreak.

It was 100 years ago tomorrow

world leaders signedthe San Remo Resolution.

It called for the establishment

of a homeland in an area called Palestine

for the first time in nearly 200 years.

Zionist leader Chaim Weizmannconsidered it so important,

he said the modernstate of Israel was born

that day in San Remo.

The League of Nations, andlater, the United Nations

ratified that resolution.

Well just as CBN's Operation Blessing

has been helping Americansduring the coronavirus outbreak,

it's also bringing relief tofamilies around the world.

Latin American countries like Honduras

have a serious need forsanitation equipment

and hospitals desperatelyrequire N95 masks.

Thanks to support from its partners,

Operation Blessing has giventhousands of those masks

to doctors and healthcareofficials in Honduras,

and it's also producing gallonsupon gallons of chlorine

to kill the virus for hospitalsand government officials.

The National Director of Honduras told OB

that chlorine is one of the best ways

to get rid of anything on any surface.

Well you can find out moreabout Operation Blessing

by visiting OB.org.

Gordon and Terry will be back

with more of "The 700Club" right after this.

- Well Truett Cathy founded Chick-fil-A,

but he says all he ever didwas put a piece of chicken

between a buttered bun.

The real hero, the onewho could do anything

and everything, according tohim, was his wife, Jeannette.

Well now the Cathys' daughter, Trudy,

is telling her mother'sstories of quiet strength.

- [Narrator] Trudy CathyWhite is an author, speaker,

and a champion of thefamily who co-founded

two of Chick-fil-A'sphilanthropic programs.

She's also the daughter

of Chick-fil-A founder, Truett Cathy.

While much has been written

about her father'senormous business success,

the public knows little about her mom.

Trudy decided it was time they did.

Her latest book, "Quiet Strength,"

tells her mother's surprising life story,

bringing laughter, tears,and authentic inspiration.

- Not everybody gets to have a mother

like Jeannette McNeil Cathy.

And one of the reasons I wrote this book

is because I wanted to sharemy mother with everyone else.

- Please welcome to "The700 Club" Trudy Cathy White.

Trudy, it's wonderful to have you with us.

- Oh, thank you, Terry.

It's an honor to be here.

- Before we talk about your book,

tell us how Chick-fil-A's doing

during this COVID-19 crisis.

There's a long line down the street

at the one near us every day.

- That's right, well wehave incredible operators

that are out there in their communities

trying to serve the best we possibly can.

We appreciate all the communitythat is rallying around

and eating with us.

Of course, we're only doingdrive-through right now

and trying to make sure that we're careful

about the safety of both our team members

as well as our customers.

- Well you guys are systems geniuses.

Tell us a little bit abouthow your mom and dad met

and how Chick-fil-A got started.

- Well, my mom and dad actually met

when they were eight years old,

but as my dad would say, they didn't get married then.

In fact, they didn't see each other

for quite a while later on,and they got married in 1948.

My mom served as a waitressin my dad's restaurant

in those early years as well, and then, children came along

and she took on the roleof being able to raise us

in a wonderful, peaceful home

and tried to create an environment

that was positive for my dad

whenever he would come homefrom long hours of work.

- Well your mom also hadquite an incredible impact

on the company.

Your brother dubbed her theFirst Lady of Chick-fil-A.

What was the role that sheplayed with the organization?

- Yeah, I think my motherhad the most critical role

of anybody really, and thatwas the role of support.

I like to give her the title

of the Chief Supporting Officer.

She was relentless inher support to my dad

and all that he was tryingto do to grow the business.

She was a tremendous prayer warrior

for my father and for thebusiness when things were,

we always have ups anddowns in business of course,

and she always took ourconcerns to the Lord

And taught us that God is verymuch intricately concerned

and interested in all thatis going on in our life,

so we appreciate the factthat she supported him

in that way through prayerand just through her presence

and encouraged my dad to realize

that we have to grow this business

built on biblical principles.

- I think those of us who love Chick-fil-A

also appreciate so much thevery open stance you take

on honoring the Sabbathand just your faith.

Your brother called your mom

the spiritual nucleus of the family.

How did that happen andwhat did that look like?

- Yeah, if you go back to my mom's story

and the early years, she was an only child

raised by a single mombecause her earthly father

walked out on the family whenshe was about three months old

so she never knew her earthly father.

But when she was about five years old,

someone introduced herto her Heavenly Father,

who became her perfect father.

She realized that, in the Bible,

it says that if you believe and receive,

you can become a child of God's,

and that was, for her,an unbelievable message

that she embraced wholeheartedly.

So her walk with theLord has been so intimate

and such a personalrelationship with Jesus Christ

through these years.

The fact that my mom reallyfocused on making decisions

based on Christ at the center of her life

really permeated andimpacted my dad's life

as well as my brothers and I as children

and even our family business.

- Your mom's life, basedon what you've written

in your book, "A Quiet Strength,"was just a loud testimony

of who Christ was in her life.

Your mom stressed to your whole family

the three Ms of life:mate, master, and mission.

Tell us about that.

- Yeah, both Mom and Dad enjoyed working

with the younger generation.

They taught Biblestudies in your churches,

went to young people whenthey were 12 and 13 years old,

and they always realized thatmost teenagers kinda complain

that Mom and Dad have to makeall the decisions for them

and they don't like being told what to do.

Mother and Dad were always wanting

to challenge these youngpeople to realize, look,

the most important decisions in life,

you are gonna get to make, and you need to be prepared

and ready to make those, and they are the three Ms.

You'll get to determine

who will be your master of your life.

You will get to determinewho will be your mate

and choose who you'll spendthe rest of your life with.

But you also get to determine

what is your mission in life.

And so it's important that we realize

the decisions that we haveto make are important,

and knowing how to make those decisions

is equally important.- Yeah, a quiet wisdom.

You open your book with aspeech from your mom, "You Can."

How did that lesson fromher shape your own life?

- Well so much about mymom was her attitude.

She realized that attitudepaves the way for everything

and she realized thatexternal circumstances

really impact your internal strength.

So her strength always camefrom her walk with the Lord.

She always said, "You can with God."

It was amazing.

Every time, even as childrenwhen we were growing up,

even my dad, when we wouldfind ourselves discouraged

or disappointed, she wouldalways be that cheerleader

behind us saying, "You know what?

"You can.

"You can do this with God."

In fact, the Bible says, "Allthings are possible with God."

- Your book, "A Quiet Strength,"

is the life and legacy of your mom,

but what do you want thetakeaway from the book to be

for people who read it?

- You know, Terry, I thinkanybody who picks up this book,

"A Quiet Strength," andreads it will understand

that everybody has ups and downs in life.

There's always adversity thatwe're going to encounter.

But we get to choose how we respond to it.

And my mother had suchan incredible attitude

and focus on her life that permeated

and encouraged everybody around her.

So I think, when people read this book,

they're gonna be encouraged as well

and realize that you canhave an abundant life,

even in the midst of adversity.

- Well Trudy, you've really written

a great legacy to your mom.

It's "A Quiet Strength,"and I know you'll enjoy it,

and I know the takeawayshe just talked about

will be something thatwill be valuable to you.

Thanks for being with us today.

So good to have you.

Blessings.- Thank you, Terry.

- Well when we come back, the stunning survival story

of a man with third degreeburns over 90% of his body.

Plus, we're gonna be prayingfor you right after this.

- Well just imaginewaking from a sound sleep

to a blanket of smoke suffocating you,

and then your fleshfeeling like it's on fire.

Well that's what happened to Jason Reece

and his wife, Amanda.

Jason managed to escapethrough the scorching flames

and then he realized Amandawas still in the house.

What happened next madeJason a human torch.

- And then it was like, "Okay, Lord,

"I have no idea what's going on."

And I just prayed in the spirit

because I didn't knowwhat I was praying for

or what I was praying about soI just prayed in the spirit.

- [Andrew] Cristy Gilmer wokein the middle of the night

with a dreadful sense thatsomeone needed prayer.

As she prayed, over 1,000 miles away,

her daughter, Amanda Reece, and her husband, Jason

laid asleep suffocating in a house fire.

- I was dreaming that Iwas just in a dark room.

It was very black and it washot and I couldn't breathe,

and I woke up and therewas a texture in the air.

And I still couldn't breathe, and I was still really hot,

and I said, "Jay, something is not right,"

and it took him all but two seconds

to realize what was going on.

He said, "There's a fire."

- [Andrew] Jason and Amandafrantically tried to escape,

but windows wouldn't openunder the intense heat

and vacuum of the fire.

When we opened the bedroom door

is when I noticed there was a glow.

And we come around the corner

and it's like you hit a brick wall

and my body wouldn't eventake another step forward.

It was impossible to breathe.

I had thought that wehad both turned around

and I ran in the oppositedirection of the kitchen.

- [Andrew] Jason ran through the heat

and broke through the front door.

Air rushed in and fed the flames.

- The air in the roomstarts to swirl around.

The heat intensifies.

When I didn't see him,my initial reaction was

"He's probably dead,

"but I can't get out of here without him."

- [Andrew] Outside, Jason realized

Amanda hadn't made it through

and went back into thehottest part of the fire

where he found her searching for him.

They were now able toopen a window and escape.

They drove to a neighbor's house

and then rushed to the hospital.

Both were severely burned, but Jason had the worst of it.

Doctors told Amanda devastating news.

- "There's a high probability

"that he's going tosuccumb to these injuries

"in the next 24 hours."

My only response was outloud "In Jesus' name,

"he's going to live.

"He will not die."

- [Andrew] Jason had third degree burns

over 93% of his body.

Doctors did everything intheir power to keep him alive.

He was intubated and placed in a coma.

He had a blood infection, lung damage,

and faced potentialblindness, if he survived.

Amanda put her hope in the Lord.

- "You are the God of all flesh.

"You made him.

"I trust you with him.

"This is so much bigger than me.

"This is so much bigger than him.

"I surrender him to you."

- [Andrew] Amanda saysshe was filled with peace

from that moment on.

That night, her mom Cristyarrived at the hospital

and joined Amanda in prayers of faith

for Jason's life and healing.

- We never wavered and we never faltered.

It was like there's a purpose, Lord.

I knew that he wouldlive and he wouldn't die

because he woke me up.

He woke me up to start praying.

- [Andrew] Days went byand Jason clung to life

as Amanda, Cristy and theirchurch family went boldly to God

with a list of specific needs.

- It's not even 24 hours to 24 hours.

It's minute-by-minute with him.

"If your husband survives these injuries,

"you're looking at upwards oftwo years in this burn unit,

"with hundreds of surgeries.

"He might lose his nose,he might lose his ears.

"Do you understand?"

I was like, "Yeah."

We'd turn on the worship music.

We'd start praying in the spirit,

We'd start speaking life over his body.

By this point, it's not coming to him

with weeping eyes anda heavy heart anymore.

Now it's like "Okay, Lord, you're gonna show up.

"We're giving you permission again.

"We're giving you permission to move."

So with confidence and withauthority we came before him,

and we said, "Life andlife more abundantly.

"Nothing missing, nothing broken."

- [Andrew] Two weeks after the fire,

Jason woke from his coma.

He experienced healingat an unprecedented rate.

His blood infection was healed

and every skin graft was successful.

- And we would tell them, "In Jesus' name,

"we're going to have this.

"In Jesus' name, we'regoing to have this."

And the next day, they'd be like,

"Something worked.

"Whatever you were doing worked."

- Doctors would uncover him before surgery

and they would be in awe, like they couldn't believe

what they were lookingat because skin grew

where there was no skin.

- That's only Jesus.

That's only him.

- [Andrew] As prayers of faith continued,

Jason remembers feelinghopeful he would fully recover

and resume a normal life.

- I think what I've learned through this

with other people stepping in and saying,

"Expect good things, expect wholeness.

"He's life and he wants that for you,"

my outlook of whether thisturns out good for me in the end

or whether it turns outbad was replaced with hope.

When you've used all yourresources and there's no more,

why not count on the Lord?

Why not call on him?

Why not give him a shot?

The scripture says, "Tasteand see that the Lord is good,

and "The man who finds himas a refuge is blessed."

- I'm so grateful to bealive with my husband.

I'm so grateful that nothing is missing

and nothing is broken.

- [Andrew] Two months tothe day after the fire,

Jason walked out of the burn unit,

thankful God was with him intheir time of deepest need.

- Yeah, I don't think it's an anomaly.

I don't think it's a freak.

I think it's a miracle, yeah.

I really enjoyed where I was at in life

and all the things I got to do,

and the Lord was faithful torestore all of those things.

90% of my skin was replaced.

I regained my vision.

I didn't lose any of my limbs.

Sensitivity back all over my body.

Yeah, 100%, I have the scarsnow, but even they're fading.

- Once you see God insuch an intimate way,

there's no denying him anymore.

It really does fill you with a confidence.

I can truthfully stand before you

and say that I know that thereis nothing that I will face

that he will not take care of.

When God says that "Iam the God of all flesh.

"Nothing is impossiblefor me," he means it.

- He does mean it.

And we're gonna pray for you

and pray to that same God of all flesh.

He is able to heal.

He is able to provide.

He is able to do miracles for you.

Well here's John from Jackson, Georgia.

He had serious stomach issues.

His acid reflux was so severe,he had to sleep upright.

Well one day, he watching "The 700 Club"

and Terry said, "Someone hasa struggle with acid reflux.

"God is putting all of this back in order

"and you will not experience it."

Well John claimed his healing

and all of the pain went completely away.

- Wow.- Yay.

- [Terry] Well this is Nancy.

She lives in Columbus, Ohio.

She suffered over a yearfrom irregular heartbeat

which flared up sometimes 15 times a day.

While watching television, she came across this program.

She heard you, Gordon, say,"Lay your hand on the area

"that needs healing and believe God."

So she did just that andcould tell right away

something was different.

From that moment on, she hasnot had an irregular heartbeat

and her doctor has confirmed it.

Thank you, Lord.- Let's do that now.

In an act of faith, lay your hand

on that area of thebody that needs healing.

We'll agree with you.

The Word says, "When two ormore agree touching anything,

"it shall be done."

So let's lean into that word.

Lay your hand.

Let's pray.

Lord God Almighty, the Godof all flesh, we come to you

and we ask for healing.

We ask for the children's bread.

We ask for what you havealready provided on the cross.

For by your stripes we are healed.

So stretch forth your hand to do miracles.

As people are laying hands

on that area of thebody that need healing,

let your hand join with them

and let them be healednow, in Jesus' name, amen.

There's someone, you'relaying your right hand

over your right chest andthere's a missing rib.

I don't know what that'sfrom, but God is healing

that entire side of your body.

And from the top of your headto the soles of your feet,

be healed and be restored now.

Terry.

- Someone else, you haveneuropathy in your feet,

not just the burning, but it's like needles

poking in your feet.

God's healing that condition

and you're just gonna feel it fade away

and it will not bother you anymore.

- If you need prayer, we're here for you.

All you have to do iscall us, 1-800-700-7000.

Here's a word from Psalms,"Though I walk through the valley

"of the shadow of death,I will fear no evil;

"for you are with me."
