- In the wake of the coronavirus,
Americans are experiencinguntold adversity.
When it's happening toyou, how do you handle it?
Well, one couple knowsfirsthand what it takes.
Just watch.
(dramatic music)
- [Narrator] Kevin and SamSorbo have made a huge mark
on the faith-based movie genre,
writing, directing, andacting in numerous projects.
Kevin recently narrated thefilm "Before The Wrath,"
which reveals the key tothe second coming of Christ.
In their latest book "True Faith,"
Same and Kevin share thedevastating challenges
they've faced in their marriage,
what got them through the pain,
and how it can help you overcome anything.
(dramatic music)
- Well please welcomeback to "The 700 Club"
Kevin Sorbo and his wife Sam.
It's wonderful to have bothof you with us, thank you.
- Thank you.
- Good to be back here, thanks guys.
- Well Kevin, you facedincredible adversity
after three strokes.
You were left paralyzed, partially blind.
How did you cope with that?
That was a dark time.
- It was a dark time.
You know, it was near the endof season five on "Hercules"
and I was having, youknow, number one TV show
in the world at that time,my first big budget movie
coming off of Universal Studios,
and I had a lump up here thatwe didn't know what it was
until it was too late, that was the aneurism,
I suffered three strokes,
and it was a long battle to get back.
Took me three years to fully recover,
it took me four monthsto even learn how to walk
and balance again, but asSam has told me many times,
you know, it was just true,I've always had faith,
but I never needed faith until that time.
- I think the importantthing to understand
is that God gives us challenges to grow us
and make us stronger, and so when you start
to take that attitude, and youlook for the silver lining,
you try to find it.
So with covid-19,
grandparents, and our fad stores,
and really trying to figureout how to homeschool,
and I'm looking at it and I'm saying,
homeschooling's thegreatest choice for parents,
let's take this opportunity.
You have an opportunity nowto test drive home education
for you and your family, let's see if that works.
And you know, God calls His people
to educate their own children.
God's very clear in the Bible
that the parent's responsibility
is the education of the children.
It's not the state's responsibility,
it's not the church's responsibility.
And so I just feel like maybethere's a message in this
for all parents outthere, and all families,
hey, come together again, have dinner together again,
spend time together again, get to know each other
and form the bond thatshould last a lifetime.
- Sam, you seem to beable to handle a number
of the things that you all faced
with just that kind of attitudethat you're talking about.
One of the big battles was infertility,
because both of you really wanted a family
and it was a struggle foryou before God blessed you
with the children that you have,
but have you always facedbattles with this kind of,
you know, pull yourself up
by the bootstraps, march? (laughs)
- You know, I probably have.
I just, I look atadversity, and I say, okay,
bring it on, let's go.
And that's art of your faith, right?
So you know, Kevin likesto say he had faith
but he never needed faith,
which is how a lot of people are raised.
They're raised in the church, okay, God, yeah whatever,
and then all of a sudden, they're hit with this adversity.
And I wasn't raised in the church,
but when I discovered my faith, boy, it was there for me.
So we need to be ableto tune to our faith,
rely on our faith.
Where the optimism that will get us,
the optimism, the hope thatwe have in Jesus Christ
carries us through so thatwhen we face the adversity
that we're facing right now,
we say, you know what, God,I know there's a reason,
I know there's a plan, Iknow there's something better
for me on the other side of this,
and that's what compelsus and motivates us
to get through it.
- You know, when I wrotemy book "True Strength"
based off what happenedto me with my strokes,
I mean, look at thephysical condition I was in.
I was in my 30s,
in better shape thanmost guys in their 20s.
I was a gifted athlete, Iwas doing my own stunts,
I was loving the show.
We're all hit with aroad block in our life.
You know, we don't know whenand where it's gonna happen.
So my book "True Strength"is really how do you deal
with that road block, and that's where,
from the success of "True Strength,"
that's where our second book "True Faith,"
which is out now, really was born.
It was born from letting people know
that you know, we allhave adversity in life,
we have adversity inrelationships as well,
and we've made marriage as disposable
as we've made life right now,
so we're trying to tellpeople they can fight back
and get their lives back in so many ways.
- And that it's worth it.
You know, 22 years so far, youknow, he's still on probation
but I'm gonna give it alittle bit more time. (laughs)
(Terry laughs)
- This is good news, Sam.
Kevin, you've been involvedin the new documentary
called "Before The Wrath."
Tell us about that.
- "Before The Wrath" is an amazing movie.
We're the number onedocumentary out there right now,
and for three straight weeks, three plus weeks on Amazon.
I hope people do check it out.
It's a wonderful time to check it out,
since you're at homelooking for things to do.
I was fortunate to bethe narrator on this.
You know, Brett Miller and his team
put this whole thingtogether, he directed it,
and his production team was amazing.
They put together apowerful, powerful story
of looking at the book of Revelation.
- [Sam] Yeah, it's great storytelling,
and it's great information,and it's intriguing,
because the book of Revelationis hard to understand,
and it makes it reallyaccessible for the audience,
so we encourage people to gocheck it out, especially now.
- [Kevin] It's a greateducation tool, it really is.
- Well, speaking of audio,
Kevin, you just voiced the audio version
of Pat's book "Ten Laws For Success."
What was that experience like for you?
- Well I was honored.
I mean, the call came out of the blue
from you guys there at CBN,
and I was like, are you kidding me?
Sure, I'd be honored to do this.
A couple of your jets came down here
in the Tampa, St. Pete area,
and they bought a greatstudio and we did it in, and--
- What did you learn?
- I learned that I have alot of things to learn, so.
(all laugh)
- We all learn that fromhis books, don't we?
Just wanna talk about yournew book for one second here.
Kevin and Sam's newbook, you mentioned it,
called "True Faith."
It's available wherever books are sold.
What do you all want thetakeaway from this to be
for people in this crazytime that we're living in?
- Well, we really want to lift up marriage
as a cultural institution, and to encourage people
to pursue the unity in marriage.
And so, and actually, to that,
and we're hosting a marriage chat,
we're calling it A Date Nightwith Kevin and Sam Sorbo,
and people can go to our websites
to find out more aboutthat, it's April 23rd.
But we really wanna supportmarriage, and family.
We think that God createdmarriage and family,
and so it's sort of our calling to try
to help people pursue that,
and you can't pursue marriagewithout faith, frankly.
I mean, it's, sure.- Absolutely.
- Marriage is an expression of our faith,
but it's also an expression of faith
that you say, okay this guyfor the rest of my life.
Like, that's a statement of faith,
and so we just wanna encourage people.
They can also go tohomegrowngeneration.com/date
if they wanna sign up
for Date Night with Kevin and Sam Sorbo.
That's homegrowngeneration.com/date.
