- Last week I had the privilegeof flying up to Washington
and visiting what's calledthe Museum of the Bible.
It is the most fantastic display,
and the Green family has spent
maybe as much as a billion dollars
putting together anawesome awesome display,
of all the way back to the early days.
The earliest settlements in Israel,
the artifacts from these things.
They've got an archeological dig,
they've got the full text, in Hebrew
of the book of Isaiah, the oldest in memory.
They've got 'em all, thewhole thing in Hebrew,
all out there, the entire text.
And it's simply a fabulous experience
and I was privileged to gowith Steve Green to see it.
And I wanna say it's something,
we're gonna try and have himon from the Museum of the Bible
to show you.
And on the subject of broadcast,
some of the things that they're doing.
But it's really incredible.
And the scriptures come tolife before your very eyes.
That's because the founder, Steve Green,
wants you to fully engagein the word of God.
And that he's developed a new approach
to reading the greatest story ever told.
Recently he sat downwith our Jenna Browder
to talk about what he calls,"This Beautiful Book."
(whooshing)
- As President of Hobby Lobby
and the founder of theMuseum of the Bible,
Steve Green is a lifelongstudent of the scriptures.
And in his new book, he zooms out
to look at the big beautifulpicture they paint.
This beautiful book, why the title?
- It is a story that hashad an impact on our world.
Has been around for ages.
And what I want people to understand
is that there is a story in "The Bible".
- [Jenna] Yeah and fullygrasping it he says,
requires taking a step back.
- It's easy for us toread some of the stories
and not understand the bigger story
that "The Bible" is telling.
And when you understandthat is a beautiful story,
it is a beautiful book.
It tells of the story of a loving God
that sent his son to pay the price,
that we might have our relationshipthat was lost, restored.
- [Jenna] Steve says he wrote the book
to encourage readers toengage with "The Bible".
- Why is it important that Christians
know the scriptures?
- It is our story as well.
And in understanding howwe fit in that story.
Knowing that there isthis good creator God
that created all things and it was good.
And because of our disobediencethat relationship was lost.
And if we don't understandhow that, God paid the price
to have that relationship restored,
we may miss it.
And that ultimately is whatthis book is telling us.
Is that there is a goodcreator God, that loves us,
that died for us, paid theprice so that our relationship
can be restored.
- [Jenna] He says his love for the Bible
is something passed down
from his parents and grandparents.
And when it comes to HobbyLobby, the family business.
- The first statement inour statement of purpose
is to operate our businessaccording to biblical principles.
That's what we strive to do everyday.
- [Jenna] Back in 2014the family and company
took a firm stand on those beliefs
In a landmark case that went all the way
to the Supreme Court.
The court ruling in Hobby Lobby's favor,
striking down the contraceptive mandate
in the Affordable Care Act.
Fast forward to the 2020term and religious liberty
again looks to be a benchmark issue.
A concern for many business owners.
Steve is there an encouragementor maybe a piece of advice
that you would give them?
- I remember watching themovie, "Amazing Grace."
It's kind of the WilliamWilberforce story.
And at the end it's kind of this,
and they lived happily ever after.
Slavery was abolishedand it was a great movie.
I loved the movie, but the problem was,
there is never a, theylived happily ever after.
There is always a needfor a William Wilberforce
in our time and in our day
because there are alwaysevils that are coming
against our culture and in our society.
And while we won our Supreme Court case
that didn't cause the issue, didn't end at that point.
- [Jenna] He says it's important
that Christians be vigilant
and continue to fight the good fight.
Do you feel like our country,
as it relates to religious freedom,
is moving in the right direction?
How do you see that?
- Well in some ways yes,and in some ways no.
There are still challenges.
I remember even afterour Supreme Court win
we met a family that owns some pharmacies
up in the state of Washington.
And they had three pharmacies
and the state was requiringthem to sell abortifacients,
which is what we were fighting.
And I'm sittin' here thinkin'
that ours kinda settled that issue.
But it's still a fight that's on-going
and so there are somewins but there are still
some challenges and struggles.
So there's still a need to be vigilant.
- [Jenna] When he's not at the museum
or at Hobby Lobby, headquartered in Oklahoma City,
Steve is busy with his growing family.
The day we sat down his newest grandson
had just been officially adopted.
And not long before that
another adopted granddaughter, Zion.
Shortly after Steve'sdaughter and her husband
brought Zion home from Chinathough, a scary diagnosis.
How is Zion doing andhow can our audience,
how can they pray for her and all of you.
- They were doing some check
because of some healthissues that she had,
they were doing an MRI
and they found that shehad a tumor on her liver.
So not the journey that they had thought,
or hoped or planned butthey immediately were told
they needed to come downand have it checked.
And about a week later
they were having some serious surgery
where they took the tumor outand took part of the liver
which can regenerate itself.
And she seems to be doingvery well from that,
recovering from that.
But they did determinethat it was Stage I cancer
and that she needed to do some chemo.
- [Jenna] A little morethan one month Later]
Zion is cancer free.
God is good, that's themessage in Zion's story
in Steve's book, andof course "The Bible".
- It is a story of a lovingGod reaching out to us
saying that he wants torestore the relationship
that we lost.
And that applies to us as Christians
or before we were Christians.
It's what invited us to accept Christ,
as our Lord and Savior,
so that we can have thatrelationship restored.
- Sometimes it just takeszooming out and seeing it all
from a broader perspective.
In Washington, Jenna Browder, CBN News.
- (mumbles) Steve Greens book is called
"This Beautiful Book".
And I recommend it tothose of ya, this story.
You can get it wherever books are sold.
"This Beautiful Book".
But I also recommend, and I'mgonna see if we can't arrange
for us to speak directly toSteve at the Museum of the Bible
so as you can see, it isan extraordinary thing.
And Terry's been up there.
- Many times.
I am struck by how theyhave spared no expense
to make it just the experience of the day
when you're up there.
It's quite amazing.- The creator,
I mean the creative conceptof putting it all together.
They built a whole floor of a building,
laid it on top of another building.
I mean, it's an extraordinary thing.
And this family is without exception.
They are the most remarkablein the whole United States.
There's nobody like 'em.
So my hats off to the Green family.
