DO I HAVE TO PRAY IN TONGUES, OR CAN I CONTINUE TO PRAY IN ENGLISH EVERY DAY? IS THERE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF THE BIBLE I NEED TO READ? Read Transcript

- Ready for some questions?

- Lay it on me!

Let's go.- Okay, here's the first one.

A viewer asks, "Do Ihave to pray in tongues,

"or can I continue to prayin English every day?"

- Well, you can pray any way you want to,

(air whooshes)but the Bible says,

"He that prays intongues edifies himself,"

so, if you wanna edify a congregation,

you speak in the vernacularof that congregation.

So, the Lord knows awhole lot of languages,

so He knows exactly what you're saying.

The big thing is, when you pray,

you're praying out of your heart,

deep calls unto deep, soyou're talking to the Lord,

and what does He say?

"With groanings that cannot be uttered."

The Holy Spirit knows what's in the mind

and the spirit of God, andHe speaks throughout you.

So, it's not the verbiagethat makes the difference,

it's what's in your heart, all right?

- This is Eric, who says, "I'm a teenager

"and have only been aChristian the last four months.

"Is there a certain amountof the Bible I need to read?

"And is there anything more I need to do

"other than surrender my life to God,

"believe Jesus died formy sins on the cross,

"and allow the Holy Spiritto live inside of me?"

- The big thing is that youfollow the leading of the Lord.

And you say, "What does He want me to do?"

And He's laid a note inthe scripture very clearly.

There isn't any prescribedritual that I'm aware of,

as a teenager, but Iwould recommend that you

read the Psalms, that you read Proverbs,

and you start with the book of John,

and you need to read the Gospels

and all the writings of the New Testament,

and they're just filled with rich things.

So, if I were you, I'd take a verse or so

and let it sink into your heart,

and then say it over and over again,

read it in your heart.

"Thy word have I hid in my heart,

"that I might not sin against You."

"And how shall a youngman cleanse his way?

"By taking heed theretoaccording to Thy word."

That's what the Bible says, all right?

- This is Steven, whosays, "I am a Christian

"struggling with whatmy purpose is in life.

"I know it sounds cliche, but the older I get,

"the more I realizethat I don't know where

"or what I'm supposed to be.

"Biblically, I know I'm supposed to be

"a God-fearing, born-again believer,

"but I find myself still asking God

"if I'm living according to His will.

"I've prayed about this alot, and I'm still not sure.

"I feel a bit hypocriticalwhen I tell others

"about my faith, but personally, I don't

"even know what I'm doing."

- I want you to rest in the Lord.

Now, here's the deal.

He made you a particularway, so if you live

according to what is in your heart,

that will be the purpose God has for you.

Do you like to heal people?

Well, medicine's good for you.

Do you like to give to people?

Well, maybe philanthropy's good for you.

Do you like organization?

It may be that business is good for you.

Do you like to preachand talk about the Lord?

Maybe preaching is good for you.

But do what's in yourheart, and that's what

a fulfillment of thedesire of your heart is,

is to fulfill the way God made you.

And don't try to be somebody else.

You might wanna preach, butyou're not Billy Graham,

or you're not Reinhard Bonnke.

I mean, just be you.

And I like to be me. (laughs)

There's truth in that, and do that.
