- [Narrator] U.S. Marine JamesPoggi's job in Afghanistan
was important, getting helicoptersand their crew in the air
and back safely in the middle of war.
- [James] Birds are comingin and doing a quick landing
and they have to takeback off, and they need a
specific piece of equipment, and it's not running for them.
I could get it runningright when they needed
it running, so they could do their jobs.
- [Narrator] When he wasdeployed, James left behind
his wife Stephanie and son Logan.
Stephanie remembers her constant concern.
- I thought about him24/7, all day everyday,
it was very stressful.
(helicopter rotators)
- [Narrator] One nightJames helped bring in
a damaged chopper.
- [James] When they changed the pitch
of the blades to bringthe nose of the aircraft
down slowly, it twistedand I ducked and it,
it clipped me, I went down.
- [Narrator] James lost his left leg and
the use of his right arm.
Stephanie faithfully stoodby him while they navigated
their new norm.
- In sickness and in health right?
This is what we're all about.
- That's right, doesn't matter.
- [Narrator] Even withStephanie's devoted help,
maneuvering through their split-level home
was nearly impossible for James.
- [Stephanie] He wouldhave to crawl everywhere,
he was constantly falling down stairs,
the doorways were too narrow, his chair wouldn't fit
through any of them.
He would have to crawlinto the kid's rooms
to say goodnight or thekids would have to come
out and give him a hug,it didn't work at all.
- [Narrator] James andStephanie's situation
changed when CBN's Helpingthe Home Front teamed
up with Operation FinallyHome, who builds custom houses
for disabled warriors.
The first step was a surpriseground-breaking ceremony.
