I'M IN A SMALL TRAILER
COOKING METHAMPHETAMINES,
THE JUICE BUILT UP AND A
SPARK WENT OFF THE HEAT
LAMP.
Reporter: AS A YOUNG
MAN, RODNEY WILLIAMS
BELIEVED GOD HAD A PLAN FOR
HIS LIFE, BUT HE WASN'T SURE
HE COULD CARRY IT OUT, OR
EVEN IF HE WANTED TO.
I JUST FELT LIKE I WAS
STRONG ENOUGH TO WIN THE
BATTLE, AND I KIND OF QUIT
ON GOD.
I SAID, I'LL BE BACK LATER.
I'M GOING TO SOW MY OATS AND
GO OUT AND SEE THE WORLD.
WHEN I'M STRONG ENOUGH, I'LL
COME BACK.
Reporter: BY THE TIME
RODNEY REACHED HIGH SCHOOL,
HE WAS AN ALCOHOLIC AND A
DRUG ADDICT, CHASING HIS
NEXT HIGH.
WE BEGAN BREAKING INTO
HOMES AND GETTING ALCOHOL
AND GETTING DRUNK.
I WAS EXPERIMENTING, TRYING
ALL OF THESE DIFFERENT
THINGS I THOUGHT WOULD
SATISFY ME, AND MAKE ME
HAPPY.
Reporter: RODNEY GOT A
JOB AND EVENTUALLY MARRIED.
BUT EVEN THE BIRTH OF HIS
SON DIDN'T CHANGE HIS
FOCUS.
MY MIND NEEDED TO BE
GOING TOWARDS MY KID AND THE
FAMILY, AND INSTEAD I WAS
SPENDING MONEY ON MY
ADDICTION.
IT WAS ALL ABOUT ME GETTING
HIGH, TAKING CARE OF MY GOD,
WHICH WAS THE ALCOHOL, THE
DRUGS, AND THE GAMBLING.
IT WAS ALL ABOUT THAT.
Reporter: A SHORT TIME
LATER RODNEY'S WIFE DIVORCED
HIM.
AND HE TRIED TO NUMB THE
PAIN HE FELT THE ONLY WAY HE
KNEW HOW.
AS LONG AS I STAY HIGH,
IT WILL BE OKAY.
YOU WILL DO WHATEVER IT
TAKES TO STAY IN THIS WORLD
BECAUSE YOU DON'T WANT TO GO
OVER HERE AND DEAL WITH
LIFE.
THE INITIAL HIGH IS
AWESOME.
BUT AS YOU CONTINUE TO TRY
AND DO IT, IT BEGINS TO
DIMINISH, AND BEFORE YOU
KNOW IT, YOU'RE IN THIS
BONDAGE, WHERE YOU'RE DOING
IT JUST TO FUNCTION.
Reporter: RODNEY WAS
WITH A FRIEND ONE NIGHT WHEN
HE WAS INTRODUCED TO METH.
WE'RE JUST RIDING AROUND
AND SNORTING WHAT WE THOUGHT
WAS COCAINE, WHICH WAS
METHAMPHETAMINES.
AFTER SNORTING ABOUT A
BOTTLE, MY HEART BEGAN TO
RUSH.
AND I COULD JUST FEEL THE
BLOOD JUST PUMPING THROUGH
YOUR VEINS.
Reporter: HIS FIRST
EXPERIENCE WITH METH NEARLY
KILLED HIM.
THE INCIDENT WAS ONE OF OVER
A DOZEN DRUG OVER DOSES.
EVENTUALLY RODNEY DECIDED HE
NEEDED HELP AND WENT THROUGH
REHAB, BUT IT DIDN'T WORK.
HE EVEN TRIED GOING BACK TO
CHURCH.
I EVEN WALKED UP AND
PRAYED A PRAYER OF
REPENTANCE, BUT IN REALITY,
THERE WAS NO HEART CHANGE.
I REALLY WAS NOT PREPARED TO
GIVE UP THE LIFESTYLE THAT
WAS LIVING.
Reporter: RODNEY'S
ADDICTION SOON CONSUMED
EVERYTHING HE HAD LEFT.
I HAD A GOOD GOVERNMENT
JOB, AND ON THE WAY HOME ONE
DAY, I WAS, LIKE, I'M NOT
GOING BACK THERE.
I WANTED TO COOK THE
METHAMPHETAMINES AND SELL
THEM.
I LOST MY HOME.
I WAS FINDING DIFFERENT
PLACES TO GO AND COOK IT.
MY LAST NIGHT AS A DRUG
ADDICT I'M HIGH; I'VE BEEN
UP FOR DAYS.
I'M IN A SMALL TRAILER.
I'M PARANOID.
I'VE GOT THE DOORS BOLTED
DOWN IN THE TRAILER.
I'M COOKING
METHAMPHETAMINES, THE FUMES
BUILT UP, AND A SPARK WENT
OFF THE HEAT LAMP.
THE TRAILER IGNITED AND THE
FLAMES -- IT WAS LIKE I WAS
SURROUNDED.
I COULDN'T GET OUT BECAUSE
THE DOOR WAS LOCKED.
I BEGAN UNLOCKING THE DOORS,
AND I RUN OUTSIDE ON FIRE.
AND NOW I'M STANDING HERE
2:00 IN THE MORNING, ALL
BURNED UP.
I'M HOMELESS.
I'VE LOST EVERYTHING I'VE
GOT.
MY FAMILY DOES NOT LIKE ME
BECAUSE I'VE BURNED THEM SO
MANY TIMES.
Reporter: RODNEY
STUMBLED TO A NEIGHBORING
HOUSE FOR HELP.
AS THE PEOPLE SPED HIM TO
THE HOSPITAL, HE BEGAN TO
THINK ABOUT HIS LIFE.
I WAS JUST MISERABLE.
DEATH WOULD HAVE BEEN A
VICTORY AT THAT TIME.
I FELT LIKE JUST LET ME
DIE.
IT WAS LIKE THE LIGHT TURNED
ON.
I REMEMBERED THE LORD THAT
HAD COMFORTED ME AS A CHILD,
AND I TURNED TO HIM AND I
CRIED OUT TO GOD.
I CRIED OUT TO JESUS.
I CRIED OUT HE COULD TAKE MY
EAR, WHATEVER IS LEFT.
I MADE AN UNCONDITIONAL
SURRENDER TO THE LORD JESUS
CHRIST ON THE WAY TO THE
HOSPITAL.
Reporter: RODNEY WAS IN
THE HOSPITAL FOR WEEKS AND
UNDERWENT SKIN GRAPHS FOR
SECOND AND THIRD-DEGREE
BURNS.
WHEN HE WAS RELEASED, HE
WENT BACK TO REHAB, BUT THIS
TIME THINGS WERE DIFFERENT.
I'M READING THE BIBLE AND
IT IS MAKING SENSE.
GOD IS SHOWING ME STUFF IN
THE HOLY WORD.
HE IS TRANSFORMING ME,
CHANGING ME, RENEWING MY
MIND AND SETTING ME FREE.
Reporter: HIS RECOVERY
WAS NOT ALWAYS EASY, BUT
RODNEY SAYS GOD HELPED HIM
GET THROUGH IT.
THROUGH A LOF LOT OF MY
WEAK POINTS, GOD HAS BEEN
THERE TO CARRY ME THROUGH.
I'M SO THANKFUL HE IS GOD
AND HE DOES THAT.
Reporter: RODNEY WENT
ON TO SEMINARY AND HAS BEEN
A PASTOR SINCE 2006.
HE IS NOW REMARRIED AND HAS
A FAMILY.
I'VE GOT A GREAT LIFE.
GOD HAS PROVEN FAITHFUL.
WHEN I DID GIVE IT ALL TO
HIM, IT IS A LOT DIFFERENT
THAN I THOUGHT IT WAS.
THE THINGS UARY WORRIE I
WAS WORRIED ABOUT, THAT I
WOULD BE MISERABLE, GOD HAS
PROVEN ME WRONG.
TODAY I AM HAPPY.
I'VE GOT JOY.
IT IS NOT WHAT I THOUGHT IT
WAS GOING TO BE.
IT IS GREAT.
Reporter: RODNEY
ENCOURAGES OTHERS TO TRUST
GOD WITH THEIR LIFE.
A LOT OF TIMES I WANTED
TO MAKE DEALS WITH GOD, BUT
WHEN YOU'RE READY TO
SURRENDER, JUST GIVE HIM
YOUR LIFE.
GOD CAN TAKE IT AND GIVE YOU
A VICTORY THAT YOU CAN NEVER
IMAGINE.
