Bible Group, ISIS Vie for Souls of Deaf Muslims
ISIS has been targeting deaf Muslims with messages aimed at recruiting them to serve in its ranks.
The jihadist army released a video last March encouraging deaf and mute Muslims to join them. The video featured two fighters communicating in sign language and explaining how the deaf can further the goals of radical Islam.
The deaf are often shunned and ignored, particularly in developing countries, and are one of the largest unreached people groups in the world.
In response, the Deaf Bible Society is stepping up to combat that challenge by giving deaf Muslims the opportunity to watch the Gospel story translated into sign languauge.
"The ISIS video seemed to offer prosperity and joy, but it actually offered false hope for the deaf community," Bucklew said. "It breaks my heart knowing there is not one Middle Eastern sign language that has Bible content. The deaf community has no way of fact-checking what was in this video and discovering what is truly hope and where they can find it."
DBS is producing a video with an evangelistic message in one of the 20 different Middle Eastern sign languages.
J.R. Bucklew, with the Deaf Bible Society, said ISIS is attempting to prey on a vulnerable community and explains how the Gospel in sign language is transforming the lives of deaf people around the world. Watch his interview with CBN News.
