NATO General: Russia-West Relations Deteriorating
The top commander for U.S. and NATO forces in Europe, Gen. Philip Breedlove, is warning that Moscow is effectively working to move its border westward into Ukraine.
The general painted an increasingly grim picture of the West's deteriorating relationship with Russia. He explained how Russia is successfully changing the internationally recognized border between the two countries.
"You've seen a series of truck convoys going in and out of eastern Ukraine, none of those approved by the Ukrainian government," Breedlove said during a Pentagon press briefing on Monday.
"The Ukraine-Russia border is wide open in these places -- Russian equipment, resupply, training flows back and forth freely," he said.
Breedlove said Moscow is discussing plans to move aircraft into the region, including possible tactical nuclear weapons, adding that he has yet to see any indication it plans to deploy such weapons.
Russia's actions, he noted, are forcing the West to beef up its military capabilities.
