Looking for Love Online? Learn the Do's and Don't's
It's the New Year and if you're looking for love, you're in luck. Right now is the busiest time for online dating sites.
According to two of the country's largest dating sites, Match.com and Plenty of Fish, the most popular window for online dating is from January 4 to Valentines Day.
But before you take a new photo and start looking through eligible matches, CBN Reporter Caitlin Burke spoke with Sameera Sullivan, chief matchmaker and CEO of Lasting Connections, for some online dating tips.
Sameera gave a list of dating "do's" and "dont's."
Dating "Do's"
1. Have a brief, concise profile with current photos of yourself.
2. Exchange emails a few times. If you like each other, speak on the phone. The third step should be to meet in person the same week. Don't let it drag!
3. Meet in a public place.
4. Find out the person's last name and where they work before you meet. If they are legit, this shouldn't be a problem.
5. Google them. Social media sites like LinkedIn can tell you a lot about the person. But remember if you click on their profile, they will see you checked them out, so if you don't want them to know, you can change your settings to anonymous.
6. Make sure that you are comfortable meeting the person, know enough about them and have ruled out all doubts about credibility.
7. Be selective on the people you are meeting!
Dating "Dont's"
1. Invite them to your place on the first or second date.
2. For men: Over compliment a woman just on her looks. Ask her questions about herself, say something you noticed in her profile and then get to know her.
3. Post selfies! This applies to both men and women. No pictures without your shirt standing in your bathroom. There is nothing appealing about this. Ladies, you don't need to flaunt everything. Don't put pictures of yourself in a bikini.
4. Fall for scammers from overseas who are asking you for any kind of money.
5. Send them friend requests on social media sites until you have met!! Don't make it awkward!
