Scores of Kids Rescued in US Sex Trafficking Sting
Police across the country have rescued 168 children from sex traffickers in the last week. It's part of a nationwide initiative known as "Operation Cross Country."
The week-long sweeps took place in more than 100 cities, including Tampa, Denver and Los Angeles.
Local police teamed up with FBI agents to arrest 281 pimps in the crackdown. It's the eighth in a series of weeklong operations that have pulled nearly 3,600 children off the streets
FBI Director James Comey discussed the operation with reporters at a news conference Monday.
"These are not faraway kids in faraway lands. These are our kids - on our street corners, our truck stops, our motels our casinos - these are America's children," Comey said
Comey went on to say, "I hate that we have to do this work, hate it."
"I love the people who've devoted their lives to doing this work," he continued. "There is no more meaningful work that the FBI participates in than rescuing children."
Some of the victims were as young as 13 years old.
