Superbook Transformed Ith’s Ministry in Cambodia
In a small village in Cambodia, Ith, a dedicated 28-year-old children’s teacher, has spent over a decade serving faithfully in her local church. Her husband is a pastor, and together they minister to their community. Ith works full-time at the church without pay, teaching Sunday school and volunteering as a general knowledge teacher—covering Khmer, Math, and English—for the children in her congregation. She is also a loving mother to two young children, a six-year-old daughter and a three-year-old son.
Ith’s journey of faith began when she was 15 years old, through the influence of her father-in-law, an evangelist. Since then, she has passionately taught children about Jesus. But despite her commitment, Ith faced a heartbreaking challenge: attendance in Sunday school was poor. Children often didn’t return after their first visit. The lessons didn’t hold their attention or motivate them to come back.
“My teaching was just reading the Bible, telling the story to the children, and finding a verse for the children to memorize. And occasionally we would just bring the children to play some games and sing praises. Noticing that the children kept [leaving], I tried to find other strategies to use, but after a while the children still [left], old and new, some only came to get snacks and did not pay attention to the teaching.”
Ith longed for a way to truly engage the children and help them experience the love of Jesus. Then CBN’s facilitator invited her to participate in the Superbook Academy teacher training program.
