New York AG Orders Orders Halt to Trump Foundation Fundraising
The New York attorney general has ordered the Trump Foundation to stop fundraising immediately.
Attorney Gen. Eric Schneiderman (D) said the foundation is not even registered to raise money in the state and has accused the Republican presidential candidate of possible fraud.
The Trump campaign said the foundation will cooperate with the investigation.
Schneiderman has been investigating the organization following media reports that foundation spending personally benefited the candidate.
According to the attorney general's office, the law requires a different registration than the foundation currently has in order to solicit more than $25,000 a year from the public.
The news comes as Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton has been mocking rival Donald Trump's claims of being a genius when it comes to business. She said his nearly $1 billion business loss in 1995 proves that claim wrong.
Trump insists that tax return proves he knows the tax system better than most so he knows how to fix it.
The Trump campaign is also pointing out that while he may have avoided income taxes, he's paid plenty of others. The campaign says Trump has paid hundreds of millions of dollars in property and real estate taxes, state taxes, federal taxes and more.
