Widowed and Struggling, She Turned Her Snack Business Into a Lifeline

Life became very difficult for Regina after her husband died. As a widow, she became the sole provider for her two children.  The immense pressure of her new reality took a heavy toll on her well-being. "I was stressed and physically and emotionally exhausted," Regina shared, closing her eyes as she remembered the painful days. "All I could do was cry. I tried to hide it from my children. But over time, they saw how overwhelmed I really was."

Before her husband passed, Regina sold snacks in front of her house. Because of medical and other debts, she struggled to keep that business afloat. With no other options available to her, she watched her financial situation spiral out of control. "I had no choice but to keep borrowing money just to survive," Regina explained. "It became a cycle and the debt kept getting worse. I reached a point where I wanted to give up."

As the debt increased, her son Marcello realized his mom was struggling even to provide food for them. The harsh reality of their poverty left a lasting impression on the children. "There were times when we only had a little plain rice porridge to eat," Marcello, Regina’s son, recalled. "I also remember one time there was only one egg left, and Mom gave it to me. She didn’t eat that day so I could."

Even in their darkest moments, Regina tried to keep her children's spirits up. "When all we could eat was porridge with a little salt, I would tell my children, at least we can still eat," Regina said, her eyes tearing up at the memory.

Then thanks to YOU, Operation Blessing helped Regina grow her business. We gave her equipment: including a stove, fryer and mixer along with furniture and food supplies.
The injection of support and new tools immediately stabilized her daily earnings. "I now earn between 5 to 8 USD a day," Regina shared.

And with her increased income and new menu items, Regina’s food business continues to grow.
The heavy burden of worry has finally been lifted from her shoulders. "Before, everything felt unstable and stressful, but now I feel more at peace and am able to enjoy life," Regina said with a bright smile. "I want to thank Operation Blessing and all of the kind people who support them. Thank you for all the help you gave to us!"
