The Help His Family Couldn’t Afford

Seven-year-old Vaneath lives in a small village in Cambodia with his family. Ever since he was three, he’s lived in almost constant pain.  “I could not run or play like other kids,” he said. “It hurts too much. I was always holding my stomach and crying."

His mother, Chreb, told us how bad his condition has become. “There is a lump in his groin. Sometimes it gets as large as an orange! And when the weather gets cooler, that seemed to make him cry out with pain even more.  And it seemed like he woke up in pain every single night!"

Then one day a friend pushed Vaneath from the top of a tractor tire while they were playing. He said the pain from fluid filled cyst was so bad it took his breath away.  His aunt had to carry him home. "My stomach hurt so bad,” said Vanneath. “I cried hard all afternoon and night.  Mom even tried ice she had to buy from the store. Nothing helped.”  

Finally they rushed him to the clinic where a doctor said he needed surgery right away.  The family could not afford it.  "I grew very afraid because we did not have money!” his mother recalled.

He was soon up running and playing with his friend.   

“I am so happy after the surgery. I can run, play ball with my friend and go fishing. I feel no pain anymore after I run, even in the cool season. I am not worried about it anymore. Thank you Operation Blessing!”
