Seven-year-old Pete went to live with his Aunt Lek after his parents separated. He still remembers one of the first things she told him.  "She said, Jesus is God," Pete recalled. "I did not understand what that meant." The concept of faith was entirely new to the young boy at the time.

Aunt Lek signed Pete up for an after-school program supported by Orphan's Promise. Every week, Pete learns to read and write, enjoys healthy meals, and watches Superbook Bible stories, like “In the Beginning.”

As he watched the Superbook episodes, their lessons began to take root in his life, bringing a greater understanding of God and the Bible. "Because Adam and Eve did not obey God, people fell into sin," Pete shared. "But Jesus loves everyone. He loves me, too! So I opened my heart to receive Jesus."

Since age 3 Pete had been battling leukemia and has been undergoing chemotherapy treatments for the past 3 years. One day after he turned 6, he told us he watched a Superbook episode where Jesus healed a blind man.

The powerful episode ignited a newfound sense of faith within him. "I was so amazed that Jesus could heal people!" Pete remembered. "Our teacher asked me, ‘Do you believe Jesus can heal you?’ I said, ‘Yes, I believe!’"

At the very next checkup after he watched that episode, the doctor gave Pete and Aunt Lek some great news.

The medical report confirmed the miracle they had been praying for. "The doctor said my cancer was in remission—it was gone!" Pete celebrated. "Aunt Lek and I couldn’t wait to tell my teacher. We were so excited! I believe that Jesus healed me."

And being Leukemia free means Pete will be able to attend school for the first time. Today, the heavy shadow of illness is gone, replaced by the pure joy of a restored childhood.

"I’m healthy now!" Pete expressed with immense happiness. "I can go to school and can play all day with my friends. I’m so happy that you brought Jesus to me. Thank you very much!"
