Hurricane Helene Wrecked Her Home—Love Rebuilt It

When hurricane Helene made landfall near Tampa, Florida, it brought devastating winds and catastrophic flooding. Pamela was forced to evacuate her home. When she returned, she found the damage was worse than she imagined.

Pamela describes the scene. “We came in and the floors were all buckled, carpet was just filled with water. It was just seeping through. I was shocked at how fast the black mold started. I had a lot of stuff. And it's gone.

Pamela’s friends came to help clean out the house and remove the wet and moldy drywall, but the damage was disastrous.

She began to uncover the cost of making the repairs. “I got an estimate, and it was going to be $16,000 to do the electric and $20,000 to do the plumbing. And that wasn't even putting anything else back together.”

While Pamela stayed with nearby family, Operation Blessing stepped in to help restore her home. Our team of staff and volunteers replaced drywall, flooring, paint and more. We even had portraits made of her family members. When pamela walked into her newly renovated home, she was seeing the inside for the first time since the remodel started. The new look was a surprise.

“You know, so I look around and it's like, just everything goes together. It's like it was supposed to be there. And all the just special touches, you know. It warms my heart. It was awesome. It is awesome. I mean, I've felt loved before, but this is this is so abundant.”

Thanks to you, Pamela’s home has been restored, and a huge burden has been lifted from her shoulders.

Pamela offers her thanks. “Thank you doesn’t even - it doesn't even begin to be a drop in the bucket. Don't think that any of your donations go without gratitude. It's just amazing. Thank you so much.”
