Obama Campaign Dumps Joshua Generation Name

The Obama Campaign will not be using the name, “Joshua Generation” after all. In their attempt to reach out to younger faith voters, that WAS going to be the name for the effort. But the Home School Legal Defense Association contacted the Obama campaign explaining that they have the rights to that name. The Obama campaign decided not to fight it.

The Brody File first told you about this last month. Read my blog here.  Read more below from the Home School Legal Defense Association:

The Obama campaign has acknowledged that Home School Legal Defense Association has rights to the “Generation Joshua” trademark and agreed not to reach out to young people of faith using a confusingly similar name.

“We’re pleased the Obama campaign has acknowledged our trademark rights,” said HSLDA Chairman Mike Farris.

Excerpt from the Obama letter to HSLDA – “Please know that the Campaign respects the intellectual property of others and wants to avoid any unnecessary confusion. As you may already know, the Campaign is no longer planning on using the “Joshua Generation Project” name or any other confusingly similar name in the future. We appreciate you informing us of HSLDA’s marks.”

Generation Joshua was launched in spring 2004 to train young people of faith to enter the civic and political arena. Thousands of teens have benefited from the program, which includes civics courses and community action.

No word yet on a new name from the Obama campaign. I'm told there's a 'naming contest" going on right now.
