He Was on His Way to His Execution, But He Listened to God Nonetheless

Isaiah 6:8 states, “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’” For Jamie and Donna Winship, hosts of the Identity Exchange podcast and authors of several books, this calling became literal. So much so that they became no strangers to stepping onto battlefields where few others would dare to go.

In this episode of Heaven Meets Earth, the duo recount one moment when a single decision, and an attentive ear to God's voice, would determine whether Jamie lived or died. It all started with one simple offer: “We'll give you a ride.”
Jamie and Donna spent nearly 25 years living in the Middle East, serving among Muslim communities. During that time, they experienced incredible loss because of the very dangers they faced. One day, a group of men pulled up beside Jamie in three cars. One of them was someone he had met before and offered him a ride instead of taking a taxi. At first, Jamie's answer was a firm no. But then he asked God, “Should I do this?”

God answered, “Yes.” So Jamie got into the car. Moments later, the atmosphere changed. “You know I know who you are,” one of the men said. “And what you're doing. You've committed crimes against our people, and for that we are enacting justice. Basically, we are taking you into the desert to kill you.”
