THE HANNAS

Andrew and Stacy met their sophomore year of college at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, and married in 2013. Andrew interned under Stacy’s dad, who was a pastor for 35 years. A few years into their marriage, Andrew served as a pastor in two different churches before stepping away in 2021. The Hannas now have a daughter and three sons. They also have a hair accessory business called Adorned, and Stacy is a digital content creator and gives makeup tutorials online.

LOVE, FAITH, AND FIRE

In early 2025, the Hannas started a podcast called Love, Faith, & Fire to talk about the issues of life, faith, and marriage. They had found the topics of pornography and sex to be taboo in many churches, and wanted to reach others with the help and hope they received. Those episodes garnered the highest number of responses, confirming their goal. One aspect of the topic they addressed is how pornography affects marriage even after the addicted person stops looking at porn.

Andrew is very open about his struggle with pornography, stating that it started when he was shown graphic material as a six-year-old boy, and continued for 20 years, until shortly before he married Stacy. Though he was able, by God’s grace, to finally stop viewing porn in 2012, he says the consequences of his usage continued for several years, greatly affecting their marriage.  As he describes it, porn use creates an insatiable desire for different options, which produce dopamine hits in the brain. “You condition yourself never to be content,” he says. That led to being critical of and unresponsive to Stacy at times, which, of course, was hurtful. Stacy says she was raised with a very strong, solid, confident view of herself which helped her not crumble. They also had Godly mentors who helped them during this time.  Both Hannas recommend the book Hooked, which talks about the effect of porn on the brain, stating that it takes a few years after stopping exposure to porn to be rid of its affects.

THE HOPE

The Hannas are clear that there is hope for any couple struggling with this issue. “It is entirely possible for God to break this cycle,” Stacy says.  She also says it takes commitment and effort, such as accountability, a zero-tolerance policy, mentors, and reading the Word of God. “It’s spiritual warfare,” she reminds us. When it comes to engaged couples, she advises not marrying until the person struggling is absolutely “done,” and has shown that he or she is willing to do anything and everything to combat the addiction. In their case, Andrew was willing to put every block on his/their computers and give Stacy all his passwords, believing that he didn’t deserve any privacy.

WHAT’S NEXT

The Hannas took a break from their podcast over the last year while they moved, and just recently started up again; this time under the new name, Us Again. They will focus on porn addiction recovery and having a vibrant sex life in Christian marriage. With the overwhelmingly positive response they received to their podcast, they also plan to write a book to help others who are struggling as they have.
