He Tried Cocaine and His Life as an Addict Was Set, Until This!

“I was putting no effort for 30 years into being a husband, into being a father to my son,” Edward Good said. “I was pouring no positive energy into any area of life that matters as a human being.”

When Edward Good was a teenager, a summer trip to visit family in California changed the course of his life. That’s when his uncle introduced him to crack cocaine.

“From the very first time it completely took control of my life,” Edward said. “I would just wait for him to come home from work every day. I didn't know anything about acquiring it. I just was at the mercy of him for the entire summer. And I went back home as a senior class president who was already addicted to crack cocaine.”

Without access to drugs at home, Edward remained sober his senior year and then into college. There he met Tina and the two started dating.

“I just liked that he knew where he was going, and he had goals that he wanted to set,” Tina said.

Edward and Tina married and started a life together. However, it wasn’t long before crack made its way back into his life, taking a firm hold of him again.

“It was completely off to the races, as if there was no gap between those years,” Edward said. “And from that point forward, life just spiraled completely out of control.”

“I found out later on that he was involved in drugs,” Tina said. “But by then I had already fallen in love with him. I thought I could change him but obviously I couldn’t. It made me feel sad, and I just wanted him to do better.”

“I was no longer functioning in our relationship, no longer functioning in my internship, no longer functioning in college,” Edward said. “All the hopes and dreams that I had when she met me disappeared, when I met it again.” 

For years, he battled his addiction, Edward was in and out of prison, never able to hold down a job, or be the ambitious man he desired to be 

“If you had asked me ‘Edward what’s your one-year plan? I hope that in one year I'll be free from incarceration and able to get high.’ That's how utterly hopeless I had become,” he said. “This is from a guy who was senior class president, freshman class president to nothing. No hopes, no dreams, no aspirations, no goals. I woke up every day regretting yesterday.”

Through 30 years of addiction, Tina stayed by her husband. She never stopped praying for his deliverance from his drug use. 
“From day one I prayed for him,” Tina said. “And I began adding fasting to that prayer. I always had hope in God, because I know that God can do anything. He can do the impossible”

Then, after a four-day drug binge, Edward hit rock bottom when he arrived home
“I couldn't stop myself from searching in the car, looking for just one more hit,” Edward said. “And this went on for hours, my fingers were raw from digging in the car. And I finally got tired enough that I went to sleep. when I woke up, I was awakened by my wife tapping on the window. And she opened the car door, and when I stood up out of the car, my pants fell to my knees. And so here, here I am, standing under an umbrella in the rain, partially nude with a woman who has been praying for me, and fasting for me, and believing in God for my deliverance for more than half of my life,” he said. “And God, at that moment allowed me, to really see how pitiful I was. To really see that she was literally and figuratively protecting me and covering me and helping me and carrying me. And I was not worth it.”

Edward went to sleep that night knowing that something in him had to change. He prayed to God for the strength to break free from his addiction.

“A slumber came over him and that allowed God to start working on him,” Tina said.

“The next day when I woke up. I know I had the strength to not go out that day, and then I found that I had the strength to not go out the next day.,” Edward said. “I just didn’t think about it much. It just was gone. “

“Once he got sober and decided to quit the drugs. I knew that God had changed him then, miraculously,” Tina said.

Since that night, Edward has been fully delivered, he has never used drugs again. He credits Tina’s faith and prayers for his new lease on life.

“Tina regularly fasted for my deliverance,” Edward said. “The life that we now enjoy is a direct result of Tina’s faithfulness to God.”

“I knew God could do it, because he can do all things,” Tina said. “He’s a God who cares for us and wants the best for us. I’m so thankful and grateful to God.”

Today Edward is a loving husband, father, and successful restaurant owner. His desire is to help those in his community who are struggling.  

“Every day that I am able to live a productive, respectful, dependable, integrity filled life, is like Christmas to me,” Edward said. “If your family member is struggling, believe that God can do the same thing, that that they're not beyond repair. You could not have convinced me in a million years that this day could come. But God has a bigger plan. We just can't give up before the miracle.”
