A Sudden Health Crisis Turned Miracle

I felt like it would be better off if I wasn't here. So much of it, it cost us so much money, so much time...”

It started one morning in March 2007. Newlywed Christina Perera woke up to a pain she’d never experienced before. “My body was in pain, my joints were screaming, my nerves were screaming. The fatigue was absolutely insane. I remember just struggling to keep my eyes open. Um, I, I didn't know what was wrong with me” Christina said.

At first, Christina’s husband Shae, thought there would be a simple fix because the doctor they saw that day, and the several they went to over the next few months couldn’t find anything despite numerous blood tests. They said some “markers” indicated the possible blood cancer, but they were uncertain. Though she began several heavy medications, the pain and fatigue became so intense, the 23-year-old was bedridden and terrified.
Christina’s suffering would continue for months, And yet, doctors could still find no cause. Eventually, Christina had to take a leave of absence from work, forcing Steve to take on another job while managing their home and care for his wife.

For three years, Christina would endure the difficult treatments and daily lifestyle of constant pain & fatigue. The couple continued to search for second and third opinions, with no success. Shae says, “it was in the back of my mind at times that I might have to live with this for the rest of my life, so that led to more hopelessness.” Christina felt helpless --- “I felt like it would be better off if I wasn't here. So much of it, it cost us so much money, so much time. I would constantly tell him, I'm so sorry”, she said. She continued, “My prayers were looking very desperate. I would say, Lord, I don't, I don't understand it. I can't comprehend it, but I'm gonna choose to stand on you; and I knew what was impossible with man was possible with God.”
Finally in late 2010, they got answers at the Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Clinic in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Lyme disease. She had been tested twice for Lyme, but both had come back negative. Doctors said it had gone untreated for so long, the symptoms may never go away. For the next two years, Christina and Shae, along with many others prayed for strength and healing as they had done all along.

Years later in 2012, after Christina had to resign from her beloved job due to her condition, she was invited to the Voice of the Apostles Conference where she would soon experience a breakthrough when a pastor prophesied to her situation. According to Christina, “every pain left my body, all of the fear, all of the anxiety, all of the torment, all of it left. And that was the night I slept for the first time without any medication.” Christina discontinued all treatments, and the symptoms never returned. A year later the couple would experience another miracle. After being told she would never be able to have children, Christina got pregnant and had a daughter they named Isabella.

Today, Shae and Christina now have a thriving household. In 2017, Christina spoke to the Virginia Senate and prompted a bill that helps prevent undiagnosed Lyme disease. She’s also a minister, speaker, and founder of a powerful teaching ministry. They both continue to share their testimony of God’s ability to do the impossible.

Forgiving Drunk Driver Who Killed Husband

“Charles left here that Thursday evening around six o'clock. After around 7:30 p.m., we didn't hear anything from him. So, my daughter and I, we kept calling him, and calling him, and texting. We didn’t hear anything from him and that was so very unusual.” What seemed like an ordinary Thursday evening to Daphne Brazil, was about to become one of the darkest times in her life. She recalls, “I was getting a little nervous. It was so unlike him to not be here, especially for dinner.”

Daphne’s husband, Charles, had run to his real estate office to catch-up on work. As the hours passed with no word, Daphne grew concerned. Then, around 10 p.m. came a knock on the door. She says, “I looked out the window and I'm like, ‘oh my goodness, it's the police.’ My heart was beating so very fast. I opened the door and the police said, ‘Is this the home of Charles Brazil?’ At that moment I was just numb. It was just too much to take at that time.”

Charles, husband and father of three, had been hit head-on by a drunk driver. He didn’t survive. Daphne says, “I didn’t even know what to say. I just sat there in complete silence.” Her pastor was called and soon Daphne was surrounded by family and church friends. She recalls, “I needed that support. It was comforting. But, it just seemed like every second was hitting me. Charles is not here. Charles has died. Charles was hit by a drunk driver. And I kept thinking that I was having a nightmare. And I needed for the nightmare to be over with because I just couldn't believe what had happened.”

By 2 a.m. everyone was gone and Daphne went to bed. Unable to sleep, she took her pain to God. She recalls, “I just had to just sit there and try to grasp what has happened 'cause I didn't, just didn't know what to say or what to do. I was feeling, it was just in a deep, deep, deep hurt. I just sat there in complete silence and let Him talk to my heart. I knew that He was gonna be there for me to comfort me, and help carry me, and the family through this.”

Even though she was hurting, Daphne says she had no hatred for the man who took her husband’s life. She says, “God had taught me a lot about forgiveness. And so, I knew that...that was something that I was gonna have to do. But the pain was still there. The pain and the hurt was still there, but I knew that I had to let God do His job.”

As the weeks turned into months, Daphne and her family continued to rely on the Bible and God for their strength. She says, “I just see His hand all over my life with just taking care of everything for me. He continues to carry me, comfort me, console me whenever I feel just a little down. I don’t get lonely because I know that the Lord, He’s here with me.”

Then in February 2023, 21 months after the accident, Daphne finally faced the man who killed her husband. It was his trial and she read her victim impact letter to him. Daphne says, “I forgave him, and my prayer is that he would turn his life around while he's in prison. It was just God...just speaking from my heart to let him know that God loves him, and God has mighty plans for him, and that he's forgiven by me. I don't think I could have forgiven the young man without God's help. If I hadn't forgiven him, I'd probably have an attitude. I'd probably be mean, angry, hateful, not a good person.”

The driver was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to 20 years in prison. Daphne recalls, “I told him that my husband would've been 57 the year of this trial. And I said, 'I pray that you touch 57 souls while you are in prison, and that it will, that your, your story will make an impact on their lives.'”

Although her healing is still in process, Daphne has experienced the peace and freedom that comes with forgiving people who’ve hurt you. She says, “It's very important that we learn to forgive people so that we could be set free. Because when you are in an unforgiveness state, it's like you are in a bondage, you're in darkness, and it really hinders your relationship with the Lord. Forgiveness is truly something hard, but guess what? With Christ, it can be easy. I'm a living witness. It can be definitely easy. If they choose to let the Lord comfort them and help them through that process, it can be done, 100%.”

Restoring Hope After Hurricane Helene

"It rained and rained and rained. And it turned into more of a storm than i’ve ever seen." Gary recalled.

when hurricane Helene catastrophically hit western North Carolina, Gray Brown and his family never imagined evacuating their home located 100 yards from the mountain creek.

In a matter of a minute or two it rose two to three feet. We never dream it would keep rising. but it just kept getting higher and higher and higher. He continued

Then everything changed. We really got to get out of the house. It’s really not safe. We have to go now. Noted his wife, Lisa

When the browns returned home, they found water washed under the foundation, taking their porch with it and leaving a 20-foot drop from their door.

"looks what’s left. How am I ever going to restart, rebuild?" Lisa questioned.

That’s when operation blessing’s disaster relief team stepped in to help. They brought in equipment and skilled builders to rebuild the deck, yard, and driveway, restoring access to their home.

"Couldn’t meet better people. And oh, they took care of us. They build the deck and I’m thankful for them." Gary fondly noted

The brown’s are grateful for Operation Blessing's assistance. While the recovery was difficult, the experience strengthened their faith and we took a few minutes to pray with the family.

"I just can't believe this. It's like strangers actually come in and helping. But to know that, you know, they have god's love in them and they want to share that with others too. That's just I don't know. We're so thankful and blessed. I just can't express." Lisa praised.

Thanks to you, Operation Blessing volunteers and partners, the browns received the help they needed.

"I just pray people keep supporting. If it wasn’t for generous people like operation blessings, I don’t know what we would do." Gary said graciously.

"I don't know how to say it in words, just that we're very appreciative." Lisa followed finally.

Superbook Brings Family and Faith Together

Growing up, 9 year old Abel was very close to her dad.  But she said she was confused about what her parents believed about God.

“When I was about 6 years old,” she told CBN, “I knew that my Mom & Dad were different in their faith. I wondered why Mom went to church and Dad went to Mosque?  I was confused. My Dad told me I had to follow Islam.”

But Abel said she struggled with the Arabic language and the teachings she was told she had to memorize. “Dad told me I had to go to an Islamic after school program,” she said. “Even though I didn’t want to, he kept saying I had to go. Finally I refused to go because I didn’t understand the lessons.”

Watching her Mom go to church, however, made Abel curious. She asked if she could attend.  At the Sunday school class for kids there, she learned about the Bible through CBN’s Superbook.

“I loved learning from the Superbook cartoons.  They are easy to understand!” she said with a smile.  I couldn’t wait to learn about the next Bible story from Superbook.  That’s what kept me coming back!”

One morning after she watched the Superbook story of Jesus and Lazarus, Abel made a decision to become a Christian.  “The part that I loved most from Lazarus’ story was when Jesus raised him from the dead. I was really impressed by that. I mean Lazarus really lived again? I mean how could that be? I remember from that story, Lazarus’ sister Martha didn’t believe in what Jesus said. I was like that. But when I saw Lazarus came alive again, I decided to really believe in the Lord Jesus.”

That morning she prayed with her teacher. “I said, ‘Dear Lord, I want You to come into my heart. Help me to always rely on You, Lord.’” I felt so relieved and happy after I prayed! I remember when I prayed, I almost cried.

Because Abel has always been very close with her dad, she shared with him what she was learning about the Bible through Superbook. Soon her dad went to church and prayed to become a Christian too.  “I was really happy when I my Dad prayed to become a Christian and wanted to go to church.  I said, ‘God, thank you that Daddy wants to go to church with us now.’”

Now Abel is attends church with her Dad and Mom and they are all growing in their faith.

“I am thankful to Jesus because He has forgiven my sins and died on the cross to save me. I also want to thank the people who support SBK and gave their donations to it! Thank you and God bless you!
