Texas has taken a boldstep in the fight for life

with a strict new lawwhich prohibits abortion

once a baby's heartbeat is detected.

- Well, the law has alreadyconvinced some women

to choose life, while it's driven others

to fear and desperation.

Heather Sells reports on the law's impact

on frontline workers incrisis pregnancy centers.

- [Heather] Whitney Freemanhas been showing women

their babies for years

and sharing all the details.

At 14 weeks this young moms little one

is crossing its anklesand sucking his thumb.

- [Mom] That is so funny.

(sonogram whooshes)

And most importantly perhaps,its heart is beating.

The new law went into effect September 1st

and it is already changing

the way women in Texas approach abortion,

as well as the way

pro-life pregnancy centers are responding.

- I need to be able to geta heartbeat at five weeks,

or they're not gonna come back.

- [Heather] For Freeman the law means

clients considering an abortionfeel up against a deadline,

if there's no heartbeat,

it can encourage them to move forward.

- If I don't get a heartbeat,

that is so much harderto get her to come back,

we really have to beso intentional with her

of why is she even here?

Like why is abortion on the table?

- [Heather] If Freeman can find it,

the conversation immediately shifts.

- If we do you hear aheartbeat then, okay,

so it's there, now whereare our options at?

And then we can start havingmore of those conversations

of what does parenting look like?

What does placing for adoption look like?

- [Heather] Pregnancy centers say the law

is convincing some womenwho were on the fence

to choose life.

For those inclined toward abortion,

the law has led to fear and desperation,

especially when it first went into effect.

- Our phones were ringing off the hook

with women who hadn't evereven taken a pregnancy test,

they just were panickedthat they might be pregnant.

- [Heather] Reportsfrom many of the states,

almost 200 pro-life pregnancy centers,

site a jump in demand for these tests

along with more calls,

more women wanting to get infast and more cancellations.

The big question that willtake several months to answer

is whether the law will actually increase

the number of women who choose life.

- We have a very short window of time now

where before we would have,

up to the 10 week, 12 week mark,

now we have really less thansix weeks to reach them,

and that's a very quick turnaround.

- Some Texas pregnancy centers are seeing

fewer abortion minded women these days,

and that could be because

these women are notweighing their options,

some of them are going outof state for abortions,

some of them are ordering pills online.

Gordon and Terry, back to you.

- Let's talk about the pills online,

I would assume it's really dangerous

to turn to the internet toorder any kind of medication.

- There are a lot of concerns

and I can tell you that20 GOP Senators in fact,

wrote the FDA last fall,

and they said, we want the abortion pill

classified as an imminentdanger to women's health,

we want it taken off the market.

They cited adverse reactions,

we know of 4,000 women whohave suffered from hemorrhaging

or internal bleeding, severeabdominal pain, infections,

and we also know thatabortion complications

are under-reported

and that is because astrategy by abortion advocates

is to tell women who go seek help

for abortion complications toreport them as miscarriages.

The senators also notedillegal trafficking

of abortion pills into theU S by foreign companies,

and they're very concerned about that.

So just a host of concernsaround these abortion pills.

- Well Heather how arethe pregnancy centers

fine tuning their message

to meet the immediate needsof women who are in crisis.

- Yes they really stress

that they are trying to be asnimble as they can right now,

and that's because they know

that women who areconsidering an abortion,

know that they need to move quickly

before heartbeat is detected

if they're going to get an abortion.

So they are using social media,

they're using online chats

and they were tryingto get women in day of,

and a lot of them are justprioritizing and saying,

if we get a call from anabortion minded women,

we will do anything we canto get her into our clinic

that day and talk with her.

- The new law is ineffect now, but courts,

the battle seems to go on.

So where did the appeals stand?

- Right, so just this week on Monday,

the Biden administrationasked the Supreme court

to temporarily block the Texas law

and the Supreme Court is signaling

that it will move quickly withrespect to that situation.

Also December 1st,

the Supreme Court is goingto hear the Dobbs case

and many on both sides believe

that the Supreme court could in fact,

overturn Roe V Wade withthat case or overhaul it.

So there's a lot of talk on both sides

about a post Roe America,

what that would looklike different states,

some abortion friendly,some banning abortions.

So a lot of change is in theair is expected right now,

but I also would come back to the point

that one pregnancy centerdirector made to me,

and she said, we don't want abortion

to just be unattainable,

we want it to be unthinkable,

and that is they want tochange the culture bottom line.

- All right, well, Heather,

and encourage them,support them financially,

support them with time,support them however we can,

because literally our futuredepends on our children.

- Well, still ahead,waking up in a cold sweat,

the horrors of war leftthis survivor with PTSD.

How did he try to treat the pain

and what finally stopped the terror?

You'll see for yourself after this.

(upbeat music)

- The blood, the bullets and the horror,

Alexander relived the conflict that

had crippled his Homelandevery single day,

PTSD chained him to acycle of destruction.

So how did he stop the madness?

Take a look.

- You know, after every day

you're listening to the grenades

and bullets and everything else.

It's all terrible thing that happened

in Yugoslavia at that time,

just the brothers and sisters separating,

killings everywhere, it's just terrible.

- [Narrator] AlexanderOpanjig is from Yugoslavia

and witnessed firsthand theterror of the Bosnian war,

in 1997 he moved to the United States,

but was unable to escape the horrors

of what he had experienced.

- After the war I had apretty, pretty bad PTSD,

You know, I'd been shot theother day and I've been,

I have shrapnel's in leg.

You wake up in the nightyou know, in a cold sweat,

and all these memories are going is just,

you try not to think of,

you try to deal with everything,

trying to heal myselfwith everything else,

it's like, it's all good,

It's all gone and it's, andI try to tell myself things,

it happened because you gotta forget this

because it's gonnaaffect me in the future.

- [Narrator] Alexanderturned to drugs and alcohol

to cope with the trauma.

- I was doing themethamphetamine at the time

and smoke a lot of weed,

and drink a bunch of alcohol,

so I could cope withwhatever I was going through,

forget about all thememories and everything,

I was just, yeah, I was drunk.

I would work midnight to eight,

and after that, I will go to the bar

until two, three o'clock afternoon

and then pass out at the house

and go back to work and that was my days.

- [Narrator] He eventuallygot married and had a son,

but his escalating drug addiction

destroyed his young family.

- Drugs and alcohol that'sall I could see at that time.

There was no attention to her,

and then I started going out,

like I would stay out forlike a couple of days,

and then, you know I understandeverything that happened,

what drove her to just take my son

and just to go.

- [Narrator] Alexander's wifetook everything and left him.

He became friends with the group of bikers

who led him into a life of crime,

selling drugs and guns.

- We would hang out and they were friends,

that time they would just to help me out

they would give me, hereyou go buddy, you know,

take some of this, take some of that,

and you'll make this month.

- [Narrator] Many arrests followed,

but in the summer of 2006,

while locked up in jail,

he heard a minister talk aboutthe gospel of Jesus Christ.

- And then like, Jesus is the Son of God,

the Father, Son, you know,

and then I listened andlistened and all of a sudden

it just like, I received,

and it was just like a lightening to me,

and I was like, wow, and he loves me

and then I felt his Spirit on me,

and I was just overwhelmed with the love.

- [Narrator] When hewas released from jail,

he went back to his old ways,

before long he was arrested again

on weapons charges and becameoverwhelmed with hopelessness.

- And I was just like,

what my life is, I thought like,

my doing drugs, stealing, you know,

attacking people for money and I'm just,

I decided to hang myself that day.

And I was like, ah,it's time for me to go,

I lived kind of a rough life,

so I decided, and then I hear this voice,

it says open a Bible.

Yeah it was like open the Bible,

I said, okay, and I opened a Bible,

I mean, I just opened the Bible like,

and I did.

- [Narrator] In his cell that night,

God revealed the manyways he had protected him

and saved his life through the years.

Alexander then fullysurrendered his life to Jesus.

His gun charge was dropped unexpectedly

and he was released from jail.

This time to a new life in Christ.

- There is freedom in Jesus,

there is a love in the Jesus,

there is acceptance in the Jesus,

there is a friend in Jesus.

Anything that your heart is missing

and needs is in the Jesus.

If you decide to believe him,

I decided to believe I'm all the way

on every word that he told me.

I knew the life without it,

and right now I know a life with him.

It's fulfillment ofevery need that I have,

right now I just want tolive the life for the Lord.

- [Narrator] God has givenAlexander a new start in life.

He was also set free from the PTSD

that had kept him chainedto a cycle of destruction.

- Well, I'm so thankfulfor the God right now,

in my life right now.

He gave me a beautiful wife,

he gave me a mission to do in my life,

to glorify his namethrough to wherever I do

that he'd be on the first place,

and it's amazing freedom that I feel

and cleanness inside me,

he cleanse me from all my sins,

I feel clean like I'm just a newborn man.

- That is what we talk about,

the born again, experience,I'm a reborn man.

I'm renewed from my inner mostbeing, I feel clean again,

isn't that great?

You can have righteousness,you can have peace,

you can have joy, you canhave a new outlook on life,

you look at life withcompletely new vision,

and you have a hope, you have a future,

you can have a family,

you can have all these wonderful things.

Why? Because God has changedyou from your inner most being.

I think Alexander's story is unusual,

but part of his storymay be familiar to you,

that you got into trouble,

you were living life your way,

under your terms and under your will,

and you got into trouble,

and you prayed and you askedGod to get you out of it,

and he did and you felt his presence,

and you felt his love,

just as Alexander did in that prison,

and then you get out of that situation

and before long you'reback to the old ways

and the old habits,

and you're no longer living for the Lord

you're living for yourselfand you forget about God,

and then you have more trouble

and you finally say, well,this time, I mean it,

and it's not something you give up,

and I think that's one of thegreat lies the world offers

is that somehow, if youbecome a follower of Jesus,

you're gonna give up something,

no, here's what you're going to get,

you're going to get love,

You're going to get acceptance,

but here's the best part

and I think even a lot of Christians,

don't always walk in this,

you get a friend,

isn't that incredible?

That God almighty the savior,

the one by whom all things were made

will be your friend,

and you can talk with him,

you can have relationship with him.

Here's Alexander and he'ssaying all these things,

if you want forgiveness,

Jesus will give that, if you want love,

Jesus will give it to you,

if you want to beaccepted for who you are,

accepted, loved for who you are,

Jesus will give that to you,

if you want a friend,Jesus will be that for you,

and the best part of it isyou don't have to clean up,

when we read thesestories in the Bible about

a woman who's sinful, hersins, aren't numbered,

but we just know she's a sinful woman

and she's at his feet crying,

and the Pharisees are amazed

that Jesus would allow her to touch him.

Here's Zacchaeus,

he's a tax collectorby his very profession,

he's sinning constantly,

and Jesus comes to him, pointsto him in a tree and says,

Zacchaeus come down,

today I want to have dinner with you,

I wanna come to your house.

Whoever you are, whatever you've done,

Jesus points to you rightnow calling you by name,

I wanna come to you,

I wanna come into your home,

I wanna come into your heart,

I wanna have dinner with you,

I wanna be your friend,

I wanna be your savior,

I wanna be your all an all,

if you really wannahave me as your friend,

from gallstones and agallbladder condition,

and God has just healed that,

he's taken away all the pain,

all that infection, all thestones now in Jesus name,

be gone and be made whole.

- And I'm telling you the pain I felt now

for like two and threeweeks, it was instantly gone.

I think it's like that state,

I knew that the Lord had healed me,

and when the girl wasdoing the ultrasound,

she said, let me tell you,

I can't find one stonein this gallbladder.

I went yes, praise youJesus, it's just proof,

and so my little doctor comes walking in

with his face beaming andhe's holding up a paper,

and he said, you were so right

what was there is no longer there

and I'm doing wonderful.

How do you explain the magnitude,

of a God that heals?

He made these bodies andhe knows how to fix them

and I'm very thankfulto him for the healing,

it's the power of the Holy Spirit,

and I'm so appreciative.

- Wow, God says his word,

not by might nor power, butby my Spirit says the Lord.

He is able, he's made these bodies,

he knows us inside and out,

he's not only able to heal us,

it's his good pleasure to heal us,

and that's why we taketime on these programs

These are wonderful miracles,

these are wonderful thingshappening, I love it.

People taking the authority,

given to us as believers in Jesus Christ.

Here's what the Bible saysabout you if you're a believer,

you shall lay hands on thesick and they shall recover.

Go look it up it's in Mark chapter 16,

this is what happens to believers,

there's no other requirement,

all you have to do is be a believer,

these signs shall followthem that believe,

isn't that incredible?

you get to be a believer,

you get to have signs following you,

you get to walk in miracle power,

you get to pray and get an answer,

you get to take theauthority given to you,

and if you've got a cist, youget to curse it at the root.

If you've got gallbladder stones,

you get to get healedand completely set free

from all the pain,

it's wonderful what happenswhen we just believe.

So let's do that right now,

let's just believe,

let's not add anything to that,

let's just lean back into him,

let's rely on Jesus,

that's another way tosay faith, let's rely,

let's rely on the finishedwork of the cross,

let's not try to add anything to it,

let's just believe,

Jesus came, Jesus died byhis stripes I am healed.

He didn't stop there,

he rose again from the dead,

and right now he's praying for me,

isn't that wonderful?

These are wonderful things,

let's believe that,

and let's rest in that,

it's sufficient, it's finished,

let's have it right now.

Let's pray.

Lord we come to you andwe come as believers,

the finished work of the cross,

we come believing in yourwords, it's finished,

all my sins have been forgiven,

all my diseases have been healed,

so by the authority givento me as a believer in you,

I lay hands on myself,

I come into agreementwith the people around me,

we say out loud,

be healed and be made whole,

all disease we rebuke you at your root,

you must leave my body now,

all infirmity, all disfunction leave now,

my body is now whole

because of the price Jesus paid for me,
