- Hi, welcome to the show.
Thanks for being with us today.
"Beaten, injured, and torturedby unspeakable means,"
that's how a one woman describedthe atrocity she endured
in a concentration camp in China.
Even worse, China isaccused of multiple crimes
against humanity, including genocide.
- That's why lawmakers andother human rights activists
are calling for a boycott
of the upcoming WinterOlympic Games in Beijing.
Caitlin Burke has more.
- Before the 2008 Olympic Games,
China pledged to improveits human rights record.
But the communist party reversed course,
intensifying repression.
- They realized they had gotteneverything that they wanted,
which was the approval of other countries.
- [Caitlin] More than a decade later,
the situation is so bad there
that China expert andauthor, Gordon Chang,
says it's hard to fully conceive.
- China's crimes againsthumanity, including genocide,
are comparable to whatthe Third Reich did,
prior to the mass exterminationsthat began in 1941.
These are atrocities that the world
has not seen for decades.
- There's over a million Muslim weegers
in concentration camps as we speak.
The women are partitionedoff when they get there
and forced into forcedabortions, forced sterilization,
mass rape campaigns, it'shorrific and disgusting.
Add that to what's happenedin the complete erasure
over years of the Tibetand Buddhist culture,
the Chinese communistparties in an absolute war
with any type of religious liberty.
- [Caitlin] Several lawmakers,
including representative Mike Waltz,
have pushed the internationalOlympic committee for years
to move the upcoming games out of China.
Seeing little to no progress,
they're now calling for a boycott.
- I just can't imagine seeingthe American flag flying there
because essentially topresident Xi, who's a dictator,
it'll be the entire worldshrugging their shoulders,
turning a blind eye, andsaying essentially, tacitly,
all of that is okay.
- [Caitlin] Waltz points to the past
when we should have boycotteda host country and didn't.
- [Mike] 1936 in Germany,
people forget that Russia invaded Crimea
just months after the 2014 Sochi Games.
We've seen time after time
that dictatorships are emboldened
when the world turns a blind eye.
- [Caitlin] At a recent event
dubbed the genocide games rally
speakers representing China'spersecuted people groups
criticized rewarding the communist regime
for its atrocities.
- During my stay inthe concentration camp,
I was beaten, injured, andtortured by unbelievable methods.
Here, I would call all thegovernments, and athletes,
and our organization
to boycott 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
- [Caitlin] Chang says it'salso important for athletes
to truly understand what theyrisk by competing in China.
From surveillance--
- This is a state that is determined
to learn everything aboutanyone who is on Chinese soil.
- [Caitlin] to actuallyhaving their DNA collected.
- China has a relentlesslydetermined effort
to take the DNA of foreigners.
This is ominous.
We know that the Chinese military
is working on new pathogens.
They call it a new typeof biological warfare
of "specific ethnic genetic attacks."
In other words, pathogens
that will leave the Chinese immune,
but sicken everybody else.
- As of now the White Houseisn't supporting a boycott
or responding to safetyconcerns regarding our athletes.
European nations are planninga diplomatic boycott,
meaning their leaders would not attend,
but companies and athleteswould still participate.
Andrew?
- Wow, Caitlin, 12 years later
after this issue was initially raised
and here we are and things are worse.
So does the public support this boycott
and are most Americans evenaware of what's going on
with these human rights abuses?
- Actually, yes.
So according to an Axios pollreleased over the weekend,
nearly half of Americans sayChina should not be allowed
to host the Winter Games,
specifically because of itsrecord of human rights abuses.
Now, older Americans aredefinitely driving that opposition,
but politically, there'snot a huge partisan gap.
Democrats and Republicansalike are against this.
- Caitlin, seeing asurge of COVID infections
at the games will be heldin the dead of winter,
isn't that a huge concern for everyone?
- It is.
So Beijing recentlycanceled all indoor events
for the remainder of August.
And we're seeing some of thezero tolerance restrictions
being re-implementedacross mainland China.
Airports are closing, entirecities are being shut down,
and mandatory mass testing istaking place in some areas.
So the Winter Games arescheduled for February,
which is when China sawits largest spike in cases
back in 2020.
So figuring out how toprevent transmission
is going to be a huge priority.
- So some big decisions comingup for the Olympic committee.
Caitlin, thanks so muchfor joining us today.
- Thank you.
- You can get all the latest news and more
when you download theCBN News Channel app.
We encourage you to do so.
Terry?
- Coming up, five hard hitting tackles,
and then this linebacker collapsed.
What happened next?
And why does his mother call it a miracle?
We'll find out, that's next.
(uplifting orchestral music)
- Five hard hitting tackles.
That's what ChristianAbercrombie's parents
watched him execute in thefirst half of the game.
And then the linebacker
for Tennessee state seemed to vanish.
So what happened to him
and how did it lead to a miracle
his family never saw coming?
- We were very excited about the game.
- It was like in a normal Saturday.
- [Narrator] September 29th, 2018,
college football is in full swing.
That day, Derek and Staci Abercrombie
drove from their homein Atlanta to Nashville,
to cheer on their son, Christian,
a linebacker for Tennessee state.
TSU faced in-town rival Vanderbilt,
a game that would permanentlychange Christian's life.
- When the game started, he was excited.
I seen him bouncing around.
- It was very crowded.
It was hot.
We were just excited.
And then it changed.
- [Narrator] Christian wasa highly touted prospect
out of Atlanta's Westlake High School.
He received nearly 30Division 1 scholarship offers.
His dream was to play in the NFL.
- He was a pretty big kid
and I've been around football a while
to know the NFL caliber.
Yeah, I had those thoughts inmy head that he could make it.
During the game, he was making plays
but he looked like he's kinda a sluggish.
He's out there, he's playing,
but he's just notlooking his normal speed.
- [Narrator] During the first half,
Christian made five hard hitting tackles.
- I found out somethingwas wrong after half time.
And I looked in the area
where the defensive players were located
and I did not see Christian.
At that time, I began tokinda panic a little bit.
- [Narrator] The Abercrombies learned
that Christian had collapsed
and was rushed to Vanderbilt hospital.
- When the nurse came in and she said
that he was very ill and Ineeded to sign the consent forms
because he's had a head injury,
I was very puzzled and confusedand I began to question her,
"How did it happen?"
And she didn't haveany answers other than,
"We need to get him to surgery."
- Yeah, it was kinda something
that we thought we'll never hear.
- [Narrator] Christian hadsuffered a traumatic brain injury
and required a craniotomy,
a removal of a piece of skull
to relieve pressure on his brain.
The Abercrombies met with the surgeon.
- He's telling us he may not wake up
and he's given us the medical terminology
of what occurred to Christian.
And I remember we cried
and I kinda fell onthe floor a little bit.
- [Narrator] The operation was successful,
but Christian was still in a coma.
- We was like, "Okay, that's enough.
"It's time to pray."
We got to give it to God,we have to surrender.
There's nothing that wecan do that can change him.
And at that moment, it justchanged our entire perspective.
- My prayer was, "Jesus getus through, give him life."
And we're saying whatever that we can say
that would give him anyhelp through prayer.
- [Narrator] Derek and Stacisent out an urgent message
for friends and family to pray
and they were amazed by the response.
- There were hundreds ofpeople in the waiting area,
couldn't even fit in the chapel, praying.
And that was just a moment for me to say,
"It's not me, it's not about me.
"It's about God and what he can do."
- [Narrator] Afternearly three long weeks,
Christian awoke from his coma.
- I heard him kinda grunt,so I looked him in the face
and he was looking at me and I asked him,
I said, "Can you hear me?
"Can you talk?"
And he looked at me andhe kinda whispered, "Yes."
- [Narrator] Staci says,Christian's recovery
is nothing short of miraculous.
- [Staci] Oh, it was totally all a miracle
from the surgeon stating it himself.
He said, "There's nothing that I did.
"There was nothing thatI could do to change him.
"I did not expect tosee you all in 24 hours.
"I did not think hewould make it overnight."
So it was all God.
- [Narrator] Christian was transferred
to an Atlanta rehab facilityto learn to walk again.
- Pretty challenging,but I worked through it
and I was tired some days, but I worked through it.
It means a lot, I'mvery happy and blessed.
I couldn't do this without the man above,
bringing tears to my body.
And I can say, I am closer to God.
I love going to church now.
I love praying.
- [Narrator] In may of 2021,
Christian graduated from Tennessee state
with an interdisciplinary studies degree.
Today, he's bringing awarenessto traumatic brain injuries
through the ChristianAbercrombie Foundation.
Christian says he's thankfulfor praying parents.
- I appreciate them and I love them.
I just wanna thank them fortheir support and prayers.
Without them, I don't know where I'd be.
It could have been adifferent outcome to this,
but I appreciate them so much.
- [Narrator] His parentscredit his recovery
to the power of prayer.
- While we're thinkingthat God has prepared him
to be this overall numberone draft pick in the NFL,
that may not have been the plan all along.
He was preparing him forthis part of his life.
- We wake up right now,
I feel like every day I hit the lottery.
That's how happy I feel,
as far as how God has blessed us.
- My perspective on life have changed.
My faith has been built stronger.
I just feel as though withoutprayer, nothing is possible.
- Christian, we thank youfor sharing your story
and your whole family, God bless you.
You are an inspiration to us all.
And if you're watching that story
and you wanna learn more about Christian
and his organization, which I'm sure you do,
for more information onChristian Abercrombie Foundation,
go to cbn.com.
And let me just encourage you.
You could be going through a situation now
where you're terriblyfrightened and anxious
about a medical issue youmay have, or a family member.
You are fearful and you'resaying, "God, where are you?"
You could be coming out of one.
But look, many of us here at this program
go through these seasons ormaybe going through them now
and we can all relate to whatthe Abercrombies went through.
There comes a point where we have to do
what the family didn'tsay, "Okay, that's enough,"
because we can stay in thatplace of fear for too long.
I just want to encourageyou, if you're in that state
of even panic sometimesor great anxiousness,
do what you can to hit your knees and say,
"Lord, I'm giving this to you."
Even try and praise your way out of it,
worship your way out ofit, just abide in Jesus.
What I'm saying is we haveto make the stride sometime
and say, "Even if I'm notfeeling it in my heart,
"even if I don't havethat faith right now,
"even if I'm not feelingthe joy of the Lord,
"sometimes we need to fanthe flame," as Paul said,
and we need to say, "Jesus, right now, I'm gonna trust you
"even when the circumstancesdon't appear as if I can."
And the Holy Spirit will do work in you
and begin to build your faith.
I can tell you I've experienced that
in some of the lowest, lowestpoints where I've said,
"God, I'm not feeling it, butI'm gonna give this to you.
"I may even try and praisemy way out of this."
Let the Holy Spirit begin to work.
And I wanna encourage you also,
Terry and I, after our next story
are gonna spend some time praying for you,
so I urge you to pleasestay with us for that.
Terry?
- While still ahead, blue from the chest up,
eyes roll back in her head.
This nine-year-old drownedin a swimming pool.
What happened to herduring the emergency flight
to a trauma center?
You'll see for yourself, that's coming up.
(uplifting orchestral music)
Annie Powell needed a miracle.
The nine-year-old drownedin a swimming pool.
Annie doesn't remembermuch about the accident.
So what does she recall?
Annie remembers herunforgettable trip to Heaven.
- [Narrator] Saturday, June 9th, 2018,
a day of fun at a park swimming pool
turned into a nightmare.
- I noticed that a man wasbringing out a young girl
and she was just drooped over his arms.
He was asking for help.
He was "Help me, help me!"
- [Narrator] As a lifeguardjumped in to begin CPR,
pastors Dave and Kathy Powellrealized the drowned girl
was their nine-year-old daughter Annie.
- During the CPR, Inoticed that Annie was blue
from her chest up.
Her eyes were rolled back in her head.
She looked so lifeless, she was lifeless.
She was my little girl, she was only nine.
And I felt very helpless in asking God,
"Don't take her, let her come back."
- I was at her feet and just praying
that the CPR would work,
we're just praying that shewould come back to life.
- [Narrator] When an ambulance arrived,
they gave Annie oxygen
and rushed her to ahospital two minutes away.
When the Powells arrivedat the emergency room,
doctors told them althoughshe was stabilized,
Annie was still critical.
She had suffered cardiacarrest and respiratory failure.
Now in a comatose state,
Annie needed to be life-flighted
to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital,
a level one trauma center inMorgantown, West Virginia,
for specialized care.
- I was really concerned about her.
And I think that's whenit really started to click
that she's not perfectly okay,
even though she's breathing,
and wondering what is going on there,
and if she would ever be the same.
- [Narrator] On thedrive, the Powells prayed,
calling on friends andmembers of their church
to pray with them.
- Prayers to God, "Please raise my Annie.
"Please give her back to me."
- [Narrator] After the chopper landed,
doctor said the next72 hours were critical.
Now in a medically induced coma,
her blood and oxygen levelswere dangerously low.
The extended time without oxygen
might've caused irreversibledamage to her heart and brain
if she survived.
Even then, Dave and Kathy held onto hope.
- She looked like a little robot.
She had a cap on her head,
all these wires.
And I found out that thatwas for measuring seizures.
She had a trach and Ijust felt so helpless
because I couldn't doanything to help her.
- [Narrator] By now, dozens of people
filled the hospital waitingroom, praying for a miracle.
- But all we could do isjust lean on God and pray,
"Lord, just help us, helpAnnie at this point,"
even, "Help the doctors, give them the wisdom,
"and help them to be able to help her
"to get back to normal."
- [Narrator] The following day, Sunday,
the Powells' home churchheld a special time of prayer
for Annie and her family.
- [Everyone] Annie, arise!
Annie, arise!
- They were saying, "Rise,Annie, rise, Annie."
And that touched my heart.
And from that point on, I knew in my heart
that she would be okay.
- [Narrator] Prayerscontinue throughout the day
and into the night.
The next day at the hospital,
Dave and Kathy got the good news.
Annie's oxygen and bloodlevels had started to improve.
Two days later on Wednesday afternoon,
doctors brought Annie out of her coma.
As she awoke, doctors askedher to move her fingers,
looking for signs shewas aware and could move.
- The doctor was leaning down like this
and Annie thrust her fist in her face.
And from then on, the doctor said,
"She's gonna go be okay, Kathy."
I knew my feisty Annie was back.
- Obviously, the answer to prayer.
Thank you, Jesus, thank you, God.
Thank you, Lord, thank you, God.
We're just praising God.
- [Narrator] While Anniedoesn't remember much,
she does remember going to Heaven.
You see, while in the helicopter,
Annie died and had to be resuscitated.
- [Annie] I saw butterflies
and they were all different colors.
They weren't just regular everyday colors.
They were colors youcouldn't even imagine.
I felt very happy, andjoyful, and very loved.
And I just felt it all around me.
- [Narrator] She says she also remembers
someone helping her in the pool.
- There was a man in white whowas helping me in the pool.
And I think maybe it wasJesus or maybe an angel.
- [Narrator] Just fivedays after drowning,
Annie was released from the hospital
with no cognitive or physicalimpairment and no memory loss.
Today, Annie is happyand doing well in school.
She and her parents telleveryone nothing is impossible
when you trust God.
- I'm very happy todaybecause I get to do hobbies
that I like, like ridingmy bike or reading books.
When I pray to God andthink of my miracle,
I always say, "Thank you,God, for letting me live."
- [Dave] We can trust and rely on Him,
that no matter what we go through,
God is there to help us through.
- [Kathy] I just wantto encourage everybody
that he is the God that canmake the impossible possible.
- As you've watched Annie's story,
I hope that sinks deeply into your heart.
He is the God who can makethe impossible possible.
This is the time in the program
where we'd like to takesome time to pray for you.
And I know many of youhave prayer requests.
You don't have an opportunityto voice them yourself here,
but God knows our hearts,He knows our names,
He knows your need, Heknows right where you are.
And so, as we all join together,
Andrew and I are going tojoin our prayers with yours,
as we seek Heaven on your behalf.
God hears,
and He has the ability tomake the impossible possible.
I want to encourage your faith further
by telling you about ananswer to prayer from a viewer
that we received on YouTube.
This viewer says, "By God's grace,
"I have been sober for seven years.
"I've overcome majorsexual and verbal abuse.
"I'm thanking God, for Iwouldn't be here without Him."
- [Andrew] Amen, seven years of sobriety.
No small feet for a lot of people.
- [Terry] And healing, lots of inner healing.
- [Andrew] Amen.
We have an answer to prayer from Facebook.
Cindy says, "I escapedan abusive relationship
"but I was depressed and hopeless
"because I lost everythingand I was homeless.
"I spent two and a halfweeks in the hospital
"for attempting suicide.
"I had given up completely.
"Now I have found God again, and I have hope again.
"It's been a long, hard journey
"and there is absolutelyno way I could have done it
"without God's unfailinglove and faithfulness."
Did you hear what she said there?
"I had given up completely,I'd given up completely."
If you find yourself in that situation,
Terry and I want to pray with you now,
as we seek Jesus Christ,
specifically on behalf ofyour needs, so join with us.
Lord Jesus, we come beforeyou on behalf of those
who are viewing thisprogram and are hurting,
or broken hearted, or anxious, or fearful.

Thank you, Lord God, for hearing us.
Thank you, Lord God,for knowing our needs,
our deep, deep needs.
And Lord God, I pray Romans 15:13
that people may knowthat joy and hope found
in the Lord Jesus Christthat we can trust in Him.
Thank you, Lord.
- There's someone, you arehere seeking citizenship,
but your family's not yet with you.
And you have a lot offear about the future
and what's going to happen.
Will you be given citizenship?
Will they be reunited with you?
God's word for youtoday is, "Rest in Him."
It's God who maps outour futures every day,
every moment of every day.
Lift up your hands right now and just say,
"God, take my hands, takemy life, take my family.
"Guide me, lead me in Jesus name."
- Just been sensing in my spirit,
there's a female with an eating disorder
that has reached thatpoint of giving up hope
and reached that point of being suicidal.
And Jesus says now to you,"Daughter have hope in me.
"I love you.
"Let me work in your life."
And I just speak toyou to raise your hands
and receive what Jesus wants to do for you
in His precious name.
- Someone else, youhave a great rift broken
between you and your parents
and it grieves your heart so much.
Give that to the Lord.
God is beginning theprocess of healing that
in ways you can't even see it.
You do your part inforgiving and releasing
and watch God do His.
- Someone else struggling with alcoholism
and wanting to cease using alcohol,
but doesn't wanna face the circumstances
he has now createdbecause of this addiction.
And Holy Spirit, I believe is just saying,
"Give Jesus your heart.
"Don't worry about yourcircumstances right now."
Jesus wants you as His own.
And it's one day at a time,
but just receive what Jesus wants to do.
In Jesus name, Terry and I pray.
