- Welcome to the Superbook Show!
- ...spiders and snakesand Mrs. Johnson's dog.
- Wait, A.J., what's going on?
- I'm just listing the reasons why
I'm a bad follower of God.
- Wait, where was I?
Um, oh, falling off theladder, falling off my bed,
speaking in front of a class,
you know, falling in front of anyone
is just really scary, you know.
I don't ever want to do that.
(swish)
(swish)
(swish)
What if my mom findsout who broke the vase?
What if a baseball comeswhizzing at my face
or a football, or a soccer ball?
- Okay, wait wait, what's going on?
- I'm just listing thingsthat I'm afraid of.
Like, like fire, and clowns.
And did I already sayspeaking in front of a class?
- Yeah, you did,
but I don't understand whyis being afraid of something
mean that you're not agood follower of God?
- It's in the Bible, duh.
I mean over and over again, it says,
"Do not be afraid."
You remember the story of Joshua, right?
God told Joshua, "This is my command:
"Be strong and courageous, benot afraid or discouraged."
See, it's a commandment "be not afraid."
- Yes, yes, but the Bible alsosays that fear can be good.
"The fear of the Lord isthe beginning of wisdom".
- So I'm supposed to be afraid of God,
like I'm afraid of fire?
- Well, fear, as in awe or great respect.
- So it's not the same.
It's still wrong for meto be afraid of fire.
- Well, awe is related to fear.
It's on the fear spectrum.
But I don't think that theBible is saying that being
afraid of fire is a bad thing.
- But it says, "Do not be afraid".
- Fear of God is proper respect, right?
Fire is dangerous.
So being cautious aroundfire is proper respect
for something so dangerous.
- So what's the difference between
proper respect and the kind of fear
that I'm supposed to "fear not".
- Well, I think it comesdown to a spirit of fear.
Do you let fear controlthe decisions you make?
- Uh, yeah.
- Well then you let fear control you.
If you're afraid of fire,
you don't go camping,
or hang around with yourfriends at a bonfire.
And that's when fear's becoming bad.
- Oh, so I would miss out on s'mores
and that's way worse than bad.
- (laughs) Caution aroundfire is proper respect,
letting fear control yourlife, is improper respect.
- So, me being afraid tospeak in front of my class...
- Normal.
- Me skipping class because Ihave to give a presentation?
- Letting fear take controland going against the Bible.
- So is that a no to skipping class?
Because um, (clears throat)
you know, I think I'mcoming down with a cough.
- That's a no to skipping class.
- So, if being afraid is normal,
how am I supposed to keepfrom giving fear control?
- Ah! The Bible answers that.
"For"
(trombone fail)
- For?
- For.
- (scoffs) You're going tohave to give me more than that.
- When God told Joshua not to be afraid,
you didn't finish the whole verse.
(swish)
"This is my command,
Be strong and courageous
do not be afraid or discouraged,
for the Lord, your God iswith you wherever you go".
- Neither. I am thecommander of the Lord's army.
(stirring music)
- [Jacob] I am your servant.
Tell me what to do.
(stirring music)
(swish)
- So, don't be afraidbecause God is with you.
- Yes. Think of it, lessof never having fear,
and more of what to do with your fear.
- If I'm afraid, then Ishould give my fear to God.
- Yes, I love this verse about fear.
"But when I am afraid, Iwill put my trust in you.
I praise God for what he has promised
I trust God.
So why should I be afraid?"
Note that the Psalmistadmits that he's afraid,
but then says why fear won't control him.
- I like that.
Trust God, praise God.
Those are good steps.
- So, you mentioned that you
have to speak in front of class?
- (sigh) A book reportin English tomorrow.
This scares the Dickensout of me. (laughs)
(drum sting)
- So what are you going to do?
- God, you know that I am afraid
to speak in front of people,
but I trust that youwill get me through it.
You gave me a tongue to speak.
So give me wisdom in my report
and the courage to give it.
- Well done.
His word is forever alive.
(swish)
(swish)

is a real thing.

- What is going on?
- I'm listing the reasons why...
hmm, I'm afraid.
(both laugh)
- I'm sorry, okay
(beep)- If you're afraid of fire,
you don't go camping or hang around with
your (gibberish) bonfire, skip.
(beep)But when I'm afraid,
I will not I...
I will put my trust in you.
I was like, "I will notput my trust in you".
