- Say 'Superbook Show' Everybody!
- Oh, Hey, thanks for watchingthe Superbook Show with us
- And today. We want to talk to you
about the only man photographedmore than Abraham Lincoln!
- Huh?
- In the 1800s, Frederick Douglas was
photographed even more than the president.
- And I'm guessing thatthese weren't selfies.
- Nope. These are intentional photographs
he took to battle the imagery
of African-Americans during his time.
- Wow. Hey, I've got tosay I've heard of him
but I don't know much about him.
- He was an escapedslave who learned to read
and then became a Methodist preacher,
and the leading abolitionist of his time.
- Abolitionist... Hey! Weren't those
the people that fought against slavery?
- Yep! These are white and black people
who work together to fight
against the evil ofslavery in this country.
- Huh!
- Frederick Douglasspent his life fighting
against the hypocrisy withinthe Christian community.
- What do you mean?
- Well, unfortunately, during the time
of slavery, a lot ofChristianity was, pro-slavery.
- What? How?
- I'm guessing that kindof depended on the person,
but when evil is normalor even law in society
it can take a move ofGod to make a change.
- So how did Frederick Douglas fight it?
- Well, he wrote essays and books,
he gave speeches, and he evencombated it through the arts,
like the photographs that we talked about.
- That's great. What kindsof things would he say?
- One of the things hewould often say was:
- Whoa. So he was saying a lot of people
who claim to be Christian
really weren't being like Christ.
- Exactly.
And I think this is a messagethat still rings true today.
- You know, I think so too.
We have to make sure that wehave the Christianity of Christ
- Because today's world isfull of so many opinions
and misinformation, butGod's word remains the same.
And God's word says that
if you say you love God,but hate your brother,
then you're a liar.
Because how can you loveGod whom you've never met
but hate the person that'sright in front of you?
- That's good.
God's word also says
that a person is corrupt and unbelieving
if they claim to know God
but deny him by the way that they live.
- So to everyone watching, set aside your anger
about what you've read
or watched in the news or social media.
- And ask yourself, arethe things that I'm saying,
doing, posting, andencouraging, like Jesus?
- Well, that cuts deep.
- And I think it should
because if we could justifysomething as horrible
as slavery with our faith, whatelse can be justified today?
- Yep. You're exactly right.
- And no one alive todayis doing everything right.
Or measuring up to Christ all the way.
But, are we even trying?
- You know, that's a good question.
Josh, let's pray for anybody watching.
- Yeah. That's pray about it.
- Father, in a time whereeveryone is so angry,
fighting, and divided, we ask that you
help us - who believe
in you - to have theChristianity of Christ
- And forgive us for all the times
that we've fallen short andbeen hypocrites in our lives.
You died because you lovethe people in the world.
Give us that same love.
- Love for you with all our being
and the ability to loveour neighbor as ourselves
- In Jesus' name I pray,
Amen.
- Please pray like this forthe body of Christ worldwide
so that we can be morelike Christ now than ever.
- His word is forever alive.

he took to battle... oh my gosh.
- It's alright

Douglas.

fighting, and divided,
