- [John] Tonight, pushing pause.
- Recommending pause for theJohnson and Johnson Vaccine.
- [John] The CDC and FDA
halting the Johnson and Johnson Vaccine
to review six cases of blood clots.
This, amid a COVID-19 spike in Michigan.
- Really what we need todo in those situations
is shut things down.
- [John] And,
a tribute to the fallen.
More than a week after he was killed
protecting the Halls of Congress,
a Capitol Hill Policeofficer is the sixth person
to lie in honor in the Rotunda.
Plus,
a second night of unrest in Minnesota
after the police killing of adriver during a traffic stop.
And, the latest on thehuman drama unfolding
at the Southern border.
All this and more tonight on Faith Nation.
(upbeat music)
From three vaccines down to two,
welcome to Faith Nation, I'm John Jessup.
- And I'm Jenna Browder, thank you for joining us.
Well, Johnson and Johnson's COVID vaccine
is no longer in the mix.
The government announcing apause of the single shot dose
within the federal supply chain.
- Though temporary, thehalt has wide implications,
both for those scheduledto get those J and J shots
and some, the very few, who may experience
rare side effects.
- What impact is this gonnahave about people's attitudes
about vaccines in general.
- This pause follows nearly 7 million
Johnson and Johnson Vaccine doses
given in the United States.
The reason, six cases of rare blood clots,
all six are women ages 18 to 48.
Those clots appearingbetween six to 13 days
after getting their shots.
One case was fatal, and one woman remains
in critical condition.
Federal officials thoughstress this action
is out of an abundance of caution.
- [Peter] Right now, these events appear
to be extremely rare.
That said, COVID-19 vaccine safety
is a top priority for federal government.
- [John] The pause,resulting in a scramble
for people scheduled toget a J and J vaccine
in the coming days.
- We're now working with ourstate and federal partners
to get anyone scheduledfor a J and J vaccine
quickly rescheduled, for aPfizer or Moderna vaccine.
- [John] Virginia's Governorannouncing this morning
a quick pivot.
- Our team here switched hasover with the help of Walgreens
to the Pfizer vaccination.
- [John] The temporaryhalt gives health officials
time to investigate therare condition more closely,
and allows providers tolearn more about the symptoms
and how to treat the condition.
Johnson and Johnsonresponding in this statement,
advising anyone who hasexperienced severe headaches,
abdominal or leg pain,or shortness of breath
after receiving the single shot vaccine
within the last three weeksto contact their doctor
for medical treatment.
An independent agency willbegin reviewing data tomorrow,
as the pause continues indefinitely.
- [Dr. Janet] Well, the timeframe
will depend obviously on what we learn
in the next few days.
However, we expect itto be a matter of days.
- Now, all of this comes asthe United States experiences
a spike in COVID cases.
Despite the pause though,
experts say people shouldstill get their vaccines,
and the White Housebelieves this won't affect
President Biden's goalof 200 million vaccines
within his first 100 days.
- Well as more and moreAmericans do get their vaccines,
there are also thosewho are are holding out.
- That's right, and theadministration is spending
billions of tax dollarsto change their minds.
CBN Senior WashingtonCorrespondent Jennifer Wishon
joins us now with more.
Jennifer, what's the background on this?
- Well John and Jenna fordays the Biden administration
has acknowledged it maynot be the best messenger
when it comes to urgingpeople to get the vaccine.
So today I asked PressSecretary, Jen Psaki,
more about efforts toreach white evangelicals
and conservatives.
Can you take us inside the process
as to how you're determiningwho the best messengers are
for those communities?
- What we've seen through ourdata is that local messengers,
whether that is electedofficials, mayors, doctors,
sometimes clergy, civic leaders,
are the most effectivemessengers of anyone.
And that's why a large partof our $3 billion funding
that we have are focused ongetting out into the country
is on working with communitybased organizations
to strengthen vaccine confidence
in the highest risk andhardest hit communities.
- And as part of that outreach,
the administration is runningpublic service announcements
on the show the "Deadliest Catch,"
during NASCAR programmingand Country Music Television.
Meanwhile, Dr. AnthonyFauci is urging Americans
who've already received theJohnson and Johnson vaccine
to be vigilant, but not to panic.
- So you're talking about tens, and tens,
and tens of millions ofpeople who've received vaccine
with no adverse effect.
This is a really rare event.
If you look at what we know so far,
they have been six out ofthe 6.85 million doses,
which is less than one in a million.
- And as we've reported, Fauci says anyone
who's going to see theside effect of this vaccine
will experience it, John andJenna, within six to 13 days
of receiving the shot.
- Well Wishon, thank you very much.
Great job at the White House today.
And here now for more,CBN News Medical Reporter,
Lorie Johnson.
Lorie, let's start right there.
How serious is this J and J vaccine pause
to the overall fight against COVID?
- Well Jenna, the WhiteHouse COVID Response Team
informed us that there is plenty of supply
of Moderna and Pfizer vaccines.
So all those people who were expecting
to get a J and J vaccinecan now get a Pfizer
or Moderna vaccine, andthere's plenty of supply,
and so they're still on target
to get as many people as wantto be vaccinated by May 31st.
- And Laurie does it, asone prominent doctor says,
show that the system is actually working?
- Well it really does.
A lot of people thought thatthis was a vast overreaction
on the part of the FDA andthe CDC, because think of it.
7 million people in the United States
have gotten a J and J vaccineand six people, six people,
have had this reaction.
So you talk about a onein a million chance.
This is actually a greaterthan one in a million chance,
but just because the FDA and the CDC
is the world's leader in safety,
this goes to show you, andit's really a testimony,
as to how seriously theytake any safety concern.
- Lorie, I wanna circle backand talk about something
we've addressed in thepast, what about the use of
aborted fetal cells todevelop the J and J vaccine?
Is there a moral reasonnot to get that shot?
- Well, as you accuratelypointed out the J and J vaccine,
not the Pfizer and the Moderna vaccines,
but only the J and J vaccine
is the one that has beenassociated with fetal cell lines.
So if there's any question at all,
get the Pfizer or get the Moderna,
because these are not involvedwith the abortion controversy
or any abortion questions.
And then as I just got done saying,
there's plenty of those supplies
and there haven't been any red flags.
113 million people in the United States
have gotten either aPfizer or Moderna vaccine.
I got my second Pfizershot just five hours ago,
and there haven't beenany red flags whatsoever
with these two vaccines.
But getting back to your question
about the aborted fetal cell lines,
I did wanna make that distinction
because there has been a lotof misinformation about this.
There are not aborted fetal cells
that were used in the developmentof the J and J vaccine,
it's aborted, fetal cell lines.
And people think, well, what's the difference?
That doesn't sound likeit's a very big difference.
It's a huge difference.
Because we're talking aboutcells that were derived
from an abortion more than 40 years ago.
And those cells haveactually been reproducing
over, and over, and over again in labs.
A lot of people don'tknow that's even possible.
So we're literally talking about
thousands of generations removed
from the original fetal cells,
but those fetal celllines were indeed used
in the manufacture of the J and J vaccine.
- All right, medicalreporter, Lorie Johnson,
we always appreciate your insights.
Thank you so much.
- Thank you Laurie.
And overseas tonight, the nation's longest war
is drawing down.
The White House announcingtoday the US will withdraw
all US forces fromAfghanistan on September 11th,
20 years to the day afterthe 9/11 terror attacks
on the World Trade CenterTowers and Pentagon.
President Biden is expected
to announce the decision tomorrow.
It means thousands of US troops
will remain in the war torn country
beyond the May 1st deadline,
negotiated by the Trumpadministration and the Taliban.
- Well a resignation to report tonight,
the police officer who shotand killed an unarmed man
during a deadly traffic stopin Minnesota has stepped down.
Kim Potter was a 26 year police veteran
with the Brooklyn CenterPolice Department.
Also resigning, the city's Police Chief.
Those announcements comingin the wake of another night
of unrest in Minnesotaand in several cities
across the country.
Police in riot gear deploying flash-bangs
and pepper balls on crowds
protesting the death of20 year old Daunte Wright.
- The renewed clashes in the streets
come nearly a year afterthe death of George Floyd.
Today the prosecution restedits case in the murder trial
of former Minneapolis policeofficer, Derek Chauvin.
And now the defense team iscalling witnesses of its own.
Today, Minneapolis ParkPolice officer Peter Chang,
who responded to the encounterthat left Floyd dead,
testified about the crowd.
- [Lawyer] And did you noticeanything in terms of the
tone or tenor of thevoices of those people?
- There were very aggressive,
aggressive towards the officers, yes.
- Did the volume increase?
- Oh yes.
- And officer Chang said hewas concerned for the safety
of the other officers at the scene.
- Well from those describedas bad actors in the force
to a police officer hailed as a hero,
the somber day of remembranceas President Joe Biden,
Washington lawmakers,
and the US Capitol PoliceForce paid respects
to one of their own
- Officer William Evans whodied in the line of duty,
April 2nd, after a driver hit him
trying to break throughcapital barricades.
Evans is only the sixthperson to lie in honor
at the US Capitol Rotunda,
and the second Capital PoliceOfficer this year alone.
CBN News Capitol Hillcorrespondent Abigail Robertson
joins us with more on thefarewell ceremony, Abigail.
- Well, Jenna, there's no doubt that 2021
has been an incredibly toughyear for the US Capitol Police,
which in the last four months alone
has said goodbye to three of their own,
including Billy Evans, whowas known on Capitol Hill
as a welcoming presence,he had great dad jokes
and he had a very big smile.
- Your son, your husband, your brother,
your dad was a hero.
- [Abigail] PresidentJoe Biden, who himself
has lost a wife and two children,
spoke at Wednesday's memorial.
- My prayer for all of you
is that
a day will come,
when you have that memoryand instead you smile
before you bring a tear to your eyes.
- [Abigail] Officer Evansserved for 18 years.
He tragically died on Good Friday,
when a driver rammedinto the North barricade
of the US Capitol, killing Evans
and injuring another officer.
- His sacrifice recalls scripture.
"Greater love has no one than this,
"that he laid down hislife for his friends."
- [Abigail] Evans is survivedby his wife and two children,
Logan and Abigail.
- Because as long as youhave them, you've got Billy.
- [Abigail] Earlier thisyear, Officer Brian Sicknick
lay in honor after dying from injuries
sustained while defendingthe Capitol on January 6th.
Among others who'vereceived the distinction
reserved for non-governmentor military officials,
include Reverend Billy Graham,
and civil rights leader Rosa Parks.
- And Evans' death comes at a time
when many Capitol Police Officers
are still dealing with the trauma
of what happened to them on January 6th,
and feelings of beingoverworked and understaffed.
John, Jenna.
- Understandable, thank you so much Abby.
Well coming up, an agreementbetween the United States
and Central American countries.
Will a stepped up militarypresence at the border,
help stem the surge of migrants?

- Well welcome back.
As the human drama on the Southern border
continues to play out,Central American countries
are preparing to stepup the military presence
on the border.
In an agreement with theBiden administration,
Mexico, Honduras, Guatemalawill deploy troops
to stem the tide of migration.
Mexico will maintain a10,000 troop deployment,
Guatemala will surge1,500 military personnel
to patrol the border with Honduras,
which has committed 7,000 troops.
Well here with us nowis Congressman Chip Roy,
he is a Republican fromthe great state of Texas.
Congressman Roy, thanksso much for being with us.
I know you were just down atthe border this past weekend
with a delegation of Republican members.
This has kind of been an ongoing thing
for the last several weeks.
I wonder if anything has changed from
what you've heard fromyour fellow lawmakers.
What struck you the most?
- Well, the only thingthat's changed is that
it's gotten significantly worse over time
and that's the unfortunate reality
of what's happening onour Southern border.
I've spent a lot of time down there.
Three weeks ago I wentdown to Laredo, Texas
and spent spend an evening
and late into the wee hours there.
And then I went to McAllena couple of weeks ago now,
and I spent the nightinto the wee hours again,
down at the river.
I usually forego all of thetrappings of the normal tours,
and I go down to actually talk to migrants
who are coming through.
In this case, I talked toabout 50 different migrants,
mostly from the Northern Triangle.
I spoke to one little girl, she was seven years old.
She was by herself, she had no family.
She was literally traveling by herself
and met this one young boy, halfway through Mexico.
She had her mother's name, allegedly her mother's name,
written on her arm,
and that was the only connection she had.
This is what we're doing.
We're allowing humanbeings to be trafficked
by dangerous cartels for profit.
That is what the Biden administration's
border security plan is.
To allow cartels to be empowered,
cartels to use people for profit,
while moving dangerous narcotics,
while our border patrol is distracted.
They're doing it I think intentionally,
for crass political purposes.
And what I saw in the border was horrific
in terms of what it meansfor actual human beings.
American citizens in danger,
by dangerous narcotics and cartels,
as well as migrants seekingto come here and being abused
as political pawns bythe Democratic Party.
And if you questionwhether or not the cartels
are reaching into yourcommunities, you shouldn't.
I talked to the DistrictAttorney in Boerne, Texas,
which is a suburb of San Antonio.
And she had a carload of nine immigrants,
five of whom were being hand and sent to a
stash house in Houston,
to be put into thehuman trafficking trade,
the sex trafficking trade and slave labor.
There was a boy in there who paid $4,000
to the cartel doing therest day, Nuevo Laredo,
to go pick grapes in California.
But he was being sent toHouston to be held for ransom.
- So congressmen, let me ask you this.
Do you think this announcementfrom the White House
about increased military presence
at these other countries' borders
will help actually stemthe tide of migrants?
- Well I think it's pretty laughable
that the Bidenadministration's plan involves
asking other countries to godown and secure their border
with their military personnel,
rather than doing what we should do
to secure our own border.
If we simply did what theprevious administration was doing
and go further, by ensuring that we were
returning people to Mexico, and enforcing our Title 42
to health code provisions withrespect to the COVID virus,
as well as actually using asylum laws
the way they're supposed to be used,
which is if you have a claimfor religious persecution
or political persecution, youmight have a claim for asylum.
That's only about 7% of thosewho end up across our border.
If we were actually enforcing our laws,
the pressure drops immediately.
But what we have insteadis an incompetent regime,
who's now looking to Mexico
and countries in the Northern triangle
to enforce their bordersusing military personnel
that are frankly, allunder the corrupt regime
of narco-terror states.
Mexico is run by cartels,
make no mistake about it.- Congressman Roy,
we only have a little under a minute left.
I wanna get your take onthis Pay To Stay Away plan.
- Well look, the idea that we're gonna now
continue to try to use dollarsin order to encourage people
not to come rather thanjust enforcing the law
is the kind of backwards foolish thinking
this administration is doing
that is harming Americancitizens, endangering Texas,
because of cartels,and harming immigrants.
I can't tell you enough, human beings on our border
being traded for money, putinto the sex trafficking trade,
because this administrationrefuses to do the basic job
of securing its border, isabsolutely mind-numbingly stupid.
And it really should beashamed of themselves
for abandoning their constitutional duty
to secure the border.
- All right, CongressmanChip Roy from Texas,
thank you so much for your time today.
- Thank you.- Thank y'all

- Well, welcome back.
It is always a busyweek here in Washington,
And with that, we wanna bring,we wanna get some analysis,
from our CBN News ChiefPolitical Analyst, David Brody.
David, let's start withformer President Trump
and the future of the Republican Party.
So this weekend T met withGOP leaders at Mar-a-Lago
and he blasted Mitch McConnell.
President Trump said he wasalso disappointed in Mike Pence
for not doing more tooverturn the election results.
What does this all say,David, about Trump's role
in the Republican Party?
- Well, Jenna, he's the king maker,
and when, you know, there used to be
a television commerciala very long time ago,
not to date myself, butthe television commercial
went, "When E.F. Huttontalks, people listen."
Well, Donald Trump is E.F.Hutton, because when he talks
people are still listening,
liberals shutter at thatthought, but it's the truth.
And so therefore, he's just saying
what he's been for a very longtime about Mitch McConnell,
and since January 6th about Mike Pence
and is there a rift inthe Republican party?
There is, but the rift is not so much
with Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell,
it's with MAGA Nation andtraditional Republicans.
And we're not even talkingabout RINOs at this point,
it used to be RINOs versus Republicans.
Now it's traditionalRepublicans, you know,
folks that are just kind of standard
rank and file Republicans against
what is the new rank andfile which is MAGA Nation,
which is a group that Trump is captivating
still to this day.
- Right, indeed.
Well speaking of traditional Republicans,
former speaker of the house, John Boehner,
he's making quite a few waves,David, with his new book.
Do you think this isevidence of a fracture
in the Grand Old Party orjust Boehner, you know,
kind of being John Boehner andstirring up some old wounds?
- Yeah, that's a good point,I like the way you said it.
It's a little bit of Boehnerstirring up some old wounds,
that he went after TedCruz and all of that.
But I do think it is, once again,
emblematic of this rift that we're seeing.
Look, John Boehner is old school, right?
I mean, he's the back alley guy,
he's smoking a cigar pipe there,
and lighting up the room andmaking deals with Democrats.
And yeah, he's a conservative, there's no doubt about it.
But once again, and he wouldeven be considered a RINO,
but in today's Republicanparty, he could be
on the cusp of being a RINO,
because MAGA Nationhas gone further right,
or further conservative, or further red,
or further principled.
Call it whatever you want, they're further that way.
And therefore, even if John Boehner
is staying where he's always been,
he now looks further to the left,
and I think that's just means more schism,
more division in the party.
- Yeah.
David, just a few seconds left here,
but today Mike Pence launched
a new conservative organization
to advance Trump era policies.
Is this the former vice-president saying
he's still on Trump's sideor how do you read this?
- I think it's Mike Pence saying,
"I wanna still be considered.
"I'm still in the mix, don't forget about me."
And, you know, he'll haveto make that decision
whether or not he runsfor president in 2024
here in a couple of years.
But, so I think he'sjust trying to kind of
keep his toe in the water if you will,
I think that's what this is about,
but we can talk about MikePence later at some point
but I'll just tell you this,
he's gonna have a tough road.
I mean MAGA Nation isnot happy with Mike Pence
and that's gonna make itvery, very hard for him to win
anything in 2024, at least at this point.
- All right, David Brody,we will leave it there.
Thank you for your analysis David.
- Thanks Jenna.
