- [Chris] On July 1st, theseNew York City demonstrators
verbally attacked the police.
- The police that are aroundus are not our friends.
They are our enemy .
(crowd cheering)
- [Chris] Then they turned to the Jews.
- The European Jews, who occupy, slaughter,
and continue to forcemillions of Palestinians
onto their killing fields called refugee
and concentration camps,
- [Chris] And the slursspread beyond the Big Apple
to the nation's capitol.
- Israel, we know you.
You murder children too.
- [Chris] Rabbi AbrahamCooper sees an explosion
of anti-Semitic and anti-Israel lies.
- Fundamentally, themost troubling is the lie
that Israel somehow isinvolved in training
the bad apples of thepolice in the United States.
- [Chris] An accusation madeby Nation of Islam leader,
Louis Farrakhan, toward Israelin a speech on July 4th.
- You mayors, yougovernors, stop your police
from goin' to Israel
to learn how to kill better.
- It's a half a millionpeople (indistinct)
where Jews were calledthe devil and we're linked
to Coronavirus and off we go to the races.
It reminds me of the statement made,
I think around 100 yearsago by Winston Churchill,
who said that, you know,"a lie can travel halfway
"around the world before thetruth gets its pants on".
- [Chris] Cooper saysanother current accusation
is Jewish white privilege.
Philadelphia Eagles widereceiver, Desean Jackson,
apologized for postingan anti-Semitic message
on Instagram, saying, "WhiteJews will blackmail America".
"They will extort America."
And incorrectly attributingthe quote to Hitler.
- To me it's especiallyoutrageous because, apparently,
to six million Jews during the holocaust,
they weren't white enoughto avoid being mass murdered
by the Nazis, who werethe ultimate supremacists.
And then, seeing how socialmedia and the very politicized
journalism situation, meansthat some of the most vile,
disgusting, and baseless ideas
are elevated to discussion.
- [Chris] Rabbi Cooper wroterecently about the importance
of the Jewish community andAfrican American leaders
working together for the common good.
- I think that everyoneidentifies with the concept
of Black Lives Matter.
African Americans arestill battling racism,
but as we see some of the forces unleashed
also led to looting, violence, the attempt to
tear down American history.
- [Chris] Cooper saysthat relationship can help
counter speeches likeFarrakhan's that become fueled
by social media and injectedinto the culture and society.
Cooper maintains coalitionsmust come together
in this national discussionin order to fight
both racism and anti-Semitism.
- What's really important for our center,
for the American Jewishcommunity and beyond is
we can't defeat anti-Semitismwithout friends and allies.
Find common cause wherewe can and I believe
there's a lot of common ground that we can
in fighting anti-Semitismand racism going forward.
I think what Farrakhanand the others wanna do
is they wanna isolate and they wanna bully
the Jewish community.
We're not gonna let them do that.
