- Tonight, President Trumpis in the White House,
where Secret Service agentsushered the president
over the weekend intoan underground bunker
while riots here got out of hand.
- [Protesters] Justice! What's his name? George Floyd!
- [Gabe] What began as peaceful protests
in many places across the country,
devolved into violence.
(canister explodes)
- From North Carolina,
(motor cycle revs)
to Michigan,
and the Twin Cities
as thousands took to the streets
in the days since George Floyd's death
under the knee of aMinneapolis police officer.
In the nation' capitol, Washington joined
the growing list of cities
calling in the National Guard--
- [Man] Watch out for the gas!
- -deploying pepper spray at protesters
as fires burned across the city.
From the headquarters of theAFL/CIO Labor Union building,
to the historic St. John's church
across the street from the White House.
- I had the chance to walk through
St. John's Episcopal Church,
and like so many of you,
I was quite angry atthe vandalism and arson.
- [Gabe] DC Mayor MurielBowser is now extending
the city-wide curfew.
- We will not allow thecontinued destruction
of our hometown by peoplewho are coming here
to protest or by D.C. residents.
- [Gabe] With manyprotesters focusing their ire
on President Trump--
- Every time you get on Twitter,
every time you say anything, sir,
you're saying it out of violence,
out of hate, and we're tired
of being hated.
- [Gabe] The president, for his part,
cast blame at the Nation's governors,
telling officials in atele-conference with governors
that most of you are weak andyou have to arrest people.
Wearing a mask, PresidentTrump's Democratic contender,
Joe Biden, listened at a meeting
with black church leaders in Delaware.
- The bandaid's been ripped off
by this pandemic and this president.
Nobody can pretend any longer
what this is all about.
- [Gabe] This, aftermore than 4,000 arrests
across 22 cities in three days.
- The tactics that I saw last night,
by the people, theantagonists I will call them,
appear to be organized in nature.
- [Gabe] Hinting at systemicforces behind the riots,
the district's police chiefis promising more arrests.
- We will release all the demographics.
My public information office will give you
the names of the arrestees.
The demographics, where they're from.
They were largely from this region,
the people that were arrested.
But I don't think thattells the whole story.
I don't think we will have the whole story
until we've made more arrests.
- With cleanup effortsunderway across the country,
U.S. Attorney General BillBarr is sending riot teams
from the U.S. Bureau of Prisonsto Washington and Miami.
They will join U.S.Marshalls and DEA agents
already deployed in D.C.
