700 Club Interactive - May 25, 2020

A man is hospitalized and struggling for breath due to COVID-19 until he feels God breathe into his lungs. Read Transcript

- [Narrator] A man struckdown by the coronavirus.

- Getting worse and worse andyou know I can't even breathe.

- [Narrator] His supernatural rescue.

- God came in my room thismorning at three o'clock

and blew in my lungs.

- [Narrator] Coming up ontoday's "700 Club Interactive".

- I'm healed.

I mean I'm totally healed.

- Well, welcome to the show.

Rocky Walker is Desert Storm veteran.

And he's never seen deathlike he's seeing it now

as a hospital chaplainduring the COVID crisis.

- Across the country hospitalsmaking massive changes

to their operations.

How are those changes effecting chaplains?

Heather Sells explains.

- [Heather] As ChaplinRocky Walker walks the halls

of the COVID unit at Manhattan'sMount Sinai Hospital,

the Desert Storm veteran

says he's never experienceddeath like this.

- This is a nurse that'sbeen with us for 21 years

and what do you say to that?

I didn't have any words for that.

I was fighting back my own tears.

- [Heather] Like every healthcarechaplain in the country,

Walker's job has changed dramatically.

He's often physicallyseparated from patients

and their loved ones and thatmeans connecting in new ways.

Chaplain Cathy Disher atthe James Cancer Hospital

in Ohio checks in by phonewith families these days

and says they welcome her call.

- Families are actuallyoften looking for just some

conversation to let them saywhat they would like to say,

to maybe be more engaged in conversation.

Someone just to chat with.

Someone just to sharetheir worries or concerns,

to offer that emotional support.

- [Heather] Chaplains also spend more time

then ever carrying for frontline nurses,

doctors and other staff.

- [Rocky] I'm observing whatI think is a second wave

of this virus.

And that is a wave of depression, exhaustion and weariness

on the part of the healthcareworkers themselves.

- [Heather] Disher offersstaff care packages

she calls Tea for the Soul on the Go

and supports them with short breaks.

- We're offering a 10minute spiritual time

that they can call inand have a meditation,

listening to some instrumental music.

Just a time to take a break, to breathe.

- [Heather] There's alsoa more delicate battle

to assert themselves as essential care.

Southern Baptist leaderRussell Moore is frustrated

that some hospitals seechaplains as just extra.

- My concern is we have tosee hospital chaplains today

as an essential part of care for patients.

And so hospital chaplainshave to be able to have access

in every way that is safe,

safe for the chaplain, safe for the patient.

But this is an essentialpart of ministering

and caring for people.

- [Heather] Doug Carver encourages

the more than 700 SouthernBaptist chaplains he oversees

to make their case.

- We need to be like thepersistent widow in the Bible

and to continue to knock on the door

of those who are in authorityto remind the doctors,

the nurses, the medical staff, the hospital administrators

that the ministry of thechaplain of bringing in,

if you will, the presence of the Lord

through the Holy Spirit is anessential part of the healing

and the health and thelife for those patients.

That it's about mind, body and soul.

- Carver also thinks thecrisis could strengthen

the role of chaplains asthe brutality of COVID

prompts more conversationsabout suffering,

death and eternity.

They're topics thatchaplains live out every day.

Hospice Chaplain DavinPhillips wears a cartoon mask

to comfort the childrenof the families he visits.

He'll do whatever ittakes to help the dying.

For one patient recently,he sang "How Great Thou Art"

in full protective gear.

- I try to make eye contactand I have the gloves on, too

and try to be able tominister through that.

It seems to be helping andmaking that eye contact

and touching.

But it's not the same thing.

It's obviously not the same.

- [Heather] Heather Sells, CBN News.

- On this Memorial Day,let's spend some time

praying for these first responders,

to those who are on the frontlines.

And when you look at the infection rates

in our medical professionals

and whether that's nurses or doctors

or anyone in the reception

or anyone treating these patients,

they're literally puttingtheir lives on the line.

So let's pray for them right now.

Lord God, we lift anyonein the medical profession

to you right now.

Those who are working withthe COVID-19 patients.

Those who are seeing the death toll

and we just ask thatyou would be with them

and that you would strengthen them

and give them words ofcomfort and encouragement.

For anyone, Lord God,whether it's in the hospital

or a nursing home, wherever this may be,

patient first wherever they can encounter

this horrible virus.

Be with them.

Protect them.

Encourage them.

And now Lord, for all of uslet us find a way forward.

Let your word be a lamp unto our feet

and a light unto our path.

Show us the way forward, Lord.

For we ask it in Jesus'name, amen and amen.

We're making it day by day,but it's definitely a struggle.

- [Narrator] OperationBlessing partner Youth World

- No child should be closedup at home without groceries.

This is where we can helpfill the need right now

in our community is help these kids

have groceries in the house.

- [Narrator] OperationBlessing is providing the food

these ministries need tokeep distributions going

through this unprecedented crisis.

- Thank goodness for Operation Blessing

and all the help that theybring that we're able to pack

this many grocery bags for these kids.

- They're actually an angel sent from God.

It's a blessing in thesetimes that the reality is

that we don't have the moneyto get this kind of food.

- [Narrator] The food OperationBlessing partners provide

(uplifting music)

(dramatic music)

- [Narrator] Psalm 118:16-17.

The strong right arm of theLord is raised in triumph.

The strong right arm of theLord has done glorious things!

what the Lord has done.

- We're now gonna show you a story

where prayer changed things.

Here's what he said, "I'mnot going to make it."

Clay Bentley told his wife

and he was saying that ashe was gasping for breath

with the coronavirus.

Clay also had double pneumonia.

But he didn't take hissickness lying down.

Clay decided to stand on the word of God.

- I felt like the Devilwas telling my time was up,

it was over.

He was whispering in myear that it's over for you.

(gentle piano music)

- [Narrator] Sundaymorning, March 1, 2020,

Clay Bentley sang in a large church choir

in Cartersville, Georgia.

When he came home thatafternoon, his wife Suzy,

could tell he wasn't feeling well.

- I was thinking becauseof the rheumatoid arthritis

he tends to be, he can wearhimself out just standing

and doing a little bit more

than the average sitting around day.

- Things started going downhill.

I mean, you know, by the timeI went to bed on Sunday night,

I mean I was havingdifficulty climbing the stars.

(siren blaring)

- [Narrator] The next morninghe went to an urgent care

to get checked out.

They sent him to the emergency room.

His oxygen levels were low andhe had pneumonia in one lung.

The flu test came back negative,

so they sent him home with antibiotics.

Throughout the week, Clay'scondition grew worse.

- Thursday night got really, really bad.

He was coughing and could not get a breath

and his eyes were huge.

I mean it was frighteningto see him that gasping

and that like I cannot get a breath

and I just feel likeI'm not gonna make it.

- And on Friday morning,I called the hospital back

and I said I feel likey'all sent me home to die.

I said I getting worse andworse and I can't even breathe.

- [Narrator] Clay wasadmitted to the hospital

and tested positive for COVID-19.

He had also developed double pneumonia.

Suzy was quarantined at home.

That week she and Clay askedfriends and family for prayer

and stood on the promises in God's word

to boost their faith for Clay's recovery.

- I knew that His word inmy mouth made a difference.

His word in anyone's mouth.

His word is more importantthan just oh, God, help someone

or oh, God, please help someone.

That just His gracecomes into affect there,

but His word does notreturn unto Him void.

So His word is what I justkept having in my mouth.

- Every healing scripturethat I could think of

was going through my spirit.

I would live and not die

and declare the works of the Lord.

He has plans for me, a future and a hope

and no weapon formedagainst me could prosper.

I was quoting them all out loud.

And you know when it got to the point

where I couldn't breathe,I couldn't quote anymore,

but I was still quoting theWord on the inside of me

and I knew within me thatGod had plans for me.

That He didn't want meto lie there and die.

That He wanted me to stand on the word

and He was telling me stand on the word.

The word of God hasalways worked in my life.

He's always provenHimself to me to be true.

He's never lied to me.

He said, "I'll never leaveyou, I'll never forsake you

and I'll never lie to you."

So I knew all that and Iknew He wouldn't let me down

and I knew no matterwhat these doctors said,

I wasn't believing their report.

That God had given me a reportand He was gonna raise me up

and I stood on that.

- [Narrator] Suzy's Facebookpage was flooded with responses

as people believed inprayer for Clay's recovery.

- I was up at two o'clock in the morning

and I was just literallyresponding to each one of those.

Thank you so very much for your prayers.

Please pray for improvement for his lungs,

for improvement in his lungs.

And just giving a veryspecific of what he needed

just to keep moving in the direction

that we knew God was leading us in.

- But I wanna talk toyou a little bit about

some things I had to deal with today.

- [Narrator] Clay's conditionworsened for several days,

yet he still had peace believingfor a miracle recovery.

Then on the night of March 14th,as he struggled for breath,

Clay says the presence ofGod came into his room.

- So I felt in the spirit like I had a man

laying on my chest and it was so heavy

that it was like I couldn't breathe.

So, this man was laying on my chest

and then all of a suddenhe blew air into my lungs.

And when he blew air into my lungs,

I took a deep breath and it'slike everything just cleared.

It's like it all went awayand I just lay there in bed

from three o'clock toabout 6:30 just breathing.

I mean I still had the oxygen.

I still had all of that stuff flowing,

but it was like so easy.

So the doctors came inmy room to check on me

and they told me what's up with this?

They said yesterday we come into your room

and tell you you're getting worse.

That you're in worse shapethan you've been since

you've been in the hospital.

Both your lungs is filled with fluid

and today you don't have anyfluid in your lungs at all.

- [Narrator] When they tested his lungs,

doctors were amazed hisoxygen levels were at 95%.

Clay told them why.

- God came in my room thismorning at three o'clock

and blew in my lungs and I'm healed.

I mean I'm totally healed.

And he said, well, he said I'm amazed

that you're in thecondition that you're in.

- When he was sharing itthe first time with me,

I just, elated and just, we were ecstatic.

It was just like you are so good God.

You're so faithful, you areso amazing and just joy.

It was joy unspeakable.

It was awesome.

- [Narrator] Two days later,

Clay was released from thehospital completely healed.

- So when the Lord raisedme up from coronavirus

and healed me of that, notonly did He heal me of that,

but He healed me of therheumatoid arthritis.

I haven't taken any rheumatoidarthritis medication

since before I went in the hospital.

My joints is like, I meanthey don't even hurt no more.

I mean I'm just set free.

Everything that waswrong when Jesus came in,

he made it all right.

- [Narrator] Clay and Suzyencourage everyone facing fear

and difficulties to turn toJesus and His word for healing.

- Whatever the biggest fearis go ahead and call it out

and answer it with the word

and see Him change your situation.

Transforming, absolutely transforming.

- And I'm hear to tell you today,

that if you'll stand on the word of God,

if you'll put your faith andyou'll put your trust in Him,

it don't matter how bad it looks,

He's the God of turn aroundand He'll turn things around.

- And He will turn it around for you,

because that's what He does.

We've gotten some prayer requests in.

Here's Jean saying I'm sosad, my mom has COVID-19.

She also has heartdisease, diabetes and COPD.

Please pray for a miracle.

She needs to be healed.

I want to keep my mom!

- [Terry] And then LP says I need prayer.

I've been going through 11years of tormenting fear.

Just when I thought I wasbetter it came back full force.

I need physical healing and a miracle.

I feel like I'm drowningand can't breathe.

I need tears of joy, not sorrow.

I want so badly to bedelivered and set free.

I want to have joy and feel well again.

It's been a very long time

since I last laughed or felt good.

- Let's take a moment topray and be encouraged

by that story, Jesus still shows up.

He still breathes on people.

He still touches them.

He still heals.

When Jesus moves there's no disease

that can stand in His way.

He is God Almighty.

He does have all powerin heaven and earth.

When we can get to Him,we can get to the answer

to every human need.

All we have to do to getto Him is ask for it.

So let's do that.

Let's pray and let'slet Him do all the rest.

Lord, we just lift thesetwo prayer requests

and for LP we just ask thatyou would heal her heart

and let there be no more fear,

but let it all be filledwith your perfect love.

Let her entire being befilled with your perfect love.

We ask for a baptism in your love

and would drive out all fear, all anxiety,

all worry now, in Jesus' name.

No more hold over her, notfor anyone who has COVID-19.

Lord, let them be encouragedby that testimony.

And we reach out for them now

and we ask because we know

that you're no respecter of persons.

We ask for them.

We ask for anyone with a lung condition

whether it's COPD or cancer

or any kind of conditionthat would, asthma,

anything that wouldrestrict their breathing

in Jesus' name be healedand be made whole.

Let your lungs work normally again.

Breathe normally again.

No more pain.

No more discomfort, just a full breath now

and full energy, in Jesus' name.

Terry, has God given you something?

- I just believe that there are people

who are struggling withbreathing right now.

I'm not even sure it's COVID-19,

but you have issues with your lungs

and God is just breathingfresh life into you.

Those of you suffering from pneumonia,

flu, it is being absorbed right now.

You'll not have thatstruggle with breathing again

or that deep painful cough.

God, just releasing right now His power

and the freedom to breathefresh breath from heaven

into your lungs, in Jesus' name.

- Many people are lookingfor a touch from the Lord.

Just times of refreshingthat you're going through

depression, you're going througha lot of negative thoughts,

thoughts about the future andlet Jesus be your future now.

Just have times ofrefreshing in His presence,

just lift your hands to Him.

Begin to praise Him for whatHe's doing, for who He is.

- The joy of the Lord is your strength

and today, this moment, right now, choose joy.

Choose joy, just speak it out loud.

God I receive the joyyou're giving me today.

- Amen, amen.

- Amen.

- If you've been touched, give us a call

and let us know your good report.

If you need prayer, we're here for you.

And we're here for you 24 hours a day.

All you have to do is call,1-800-700-7000, Terry.

- Well, up next what do youdo when God seems silent?

How can you find hope as you wait

for an answer to your prayer?

It's all coming up after this.

(uplifting music)

- Well, thanks for joining us

for another Q and A with Gordon.

All right, I'm excited about this.

- Okay, let's do it.

- I always look forward to this.

So the question thatwe were talking about,

hope how do we hold on to hope

when there seems to be a delay

or people are hanging on to hope

but things are not changing?

How do you hold on to hope?

- Well, that can be difficultparticularly if you're sick

and particularly, if your dying.

And I went through that,I had Cerebral malaria.

I picked it up in a refugee camp

on the border of Burma and Thailand.

And I was dying and when you're dying

you can know that you're dying

and so I knew I was dying.

And at that point in time,

my prayers were not being answered.

I mean, you know here I amthinking I'm God's man of faith

and power for the hour and I was naming it

and claiming it and doing all this stuff.

And doing everything I knewhow to do, except rely on Him.

It was everything I knew how to do.

And during those times,

the Bible talks aboutthe heavens being brass

and literally, I could feel myprayers bouncing back to me.

- [Roberto] Wow.

- Which was a sensation I was not used to.

And how do you hold on to hope?

I obviously didn't die.

I achieved a breakthroughspiritually realizing

that when I surrendermy entire life to Him

and I say God if this ismy moment where I die,

I'm okay with that.

I understand everything is in your control

and so I surrender to that.

I surrender to what you have for me.

That was actually a really good choice

and a really good decision.

And I prayed, Lord, if youwant to take me it's okay.

I first asked for protectionfor my wife and my children

and then, okay, I'm ready to go.

And it was a breakthrough moment

and in that moment I foundthis wonderful song coming out.

You know how your spiritcan sometimes take over,

your mind's not workingbut your spirit's going?

In my spirit, from my innermost being,

I was singing, this isthe day the Lord has made.

I will rejoice and be glad in it.

Not realizing I'm quoting Psalm 118,

which is the same psalm thatJesus sang at the Last Supper.

So it's that tie and you walkinto a fellowship of comfort

that until you've been there,it's really hard to describe.

And Paul talks about thefellowship of suffering.

That you can have an experience

that you come into the sufferingthat Jesus went through

and His total abandonmentto the will of the Father.

And it's odd how that brings you comfort.

- Yeah, it seems that when Jesus said,

"Blessed are those who mournfor they shall be comforted."

you can't sometimes get that comfort--

- Until you mourn.- Mourn.

- [Gordon] As long asyou're pushing it away

and I was pushing it away.

I did not want that cup.

I didn't wanna drink that cup.

I didn't wanna haveanything to do with that

and I didn't wanna havea near death experience.

But when I turned it around

and said, well, if God's giving me this,

there's gotta be a purpose in it.

So let's take it and trust Him

and that complete abandonment.

I'd like to say I've gotten good at it.

No, you know it's one of those things

are you willing to die daily

and I'm pretty bad at that.

- [Roberto] That's true forall of us, so thank you.

- There was you know one point in my life

where I said complete surrender.

And in that, I foundthis wonderful blessing.

- Wow, wow, that's encouraging.

- Yeah, and I encourage everyone today,

'cause we're all going through this.

We all want this thing to be over.

Well, it's not and I'm notseeing any kind of easy solution.

So God, how can you use it

and how can you use mein the middle of it?

Here's a word from Proverbs Chapter three.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart

and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways acknowledge Him

and He shall direct your path.

God bless you.

We'll see you again.
