- [Narrator] Ever wonder whatit's like to rule the world?
Meet Pharaoh.
- [Girl] Wait, the Pharaohas in the king of Egypt
kind of Pharaoh?
- [Narrator] That's right.
Back in the time of Moses,
Egypt was the most powerfulnation in the world.
That made Pharaoh the most powerful man.
- Oh mighty and most revered Pharaoh,
two shepherds request an audience.
- [Narrator] Now two Israelites,
Moses and his brother Aaron,
were sent by God to deliver a message
to this mighty ruler.
Because Pharaoh hadenslaved the Israelites
for generations.
- [Moses] Thus says the lord:
let my people go that they may serve me.
- And all the slaves were freed, right?
- [Narrator] No, not right away.
Pharaoh foolishly refused.
- Who is this lord?
And why should I obey him?
I do not know the lord, nor will I let Israel go.
- [Narrator] Pharaohthought the God of Moses
was a trickster, justlike his court magicians.
But he later found outthe true power of God.
- Whoa.
- [God] Now you shall seewhat I will do to Pharaoh.
Because of my mighty power,he will let my people go.
- [Narrator] But Pharaoh was stubborn
and wouldn't back down without a fight.
- And you may tell this so called God,
who makes such bold demands,
that he has no power in my kingdom.
(crowd screaming)
- [Narrator] God then brought all kinds
of plagues to Egypt,
including insects,
hail,
(man yelling)
disease,
boils and more.
But still, Pharaoh wouldn't budge.
(lightning strikes)
At last, Pharaoh had had enough.
He called out to hisgod, who was named Ra.
- [Pharaoh] God, of the eternal sun,
protect us against the torments
of this shepherd's god.
- [Narrator] But even as he prayed,
the true God of Israel blotted out the sun
and turned the day to night.
- Okay, that'll teach Ra.
(woman screaming)
- Pharaoh's stubbornness cost him greatly,
as God's last plague killedthe first born sons of Egypt,
even Pharaoh's son.
- [Pharaoh] No!
Get out!
Leave my people,
and take the rest ofthe Israelites with you!
- [Narrator] So Mosesled all the Israelites
out of Egypt.
But Pharaoh's heartquickly turned to revenge.
- We shall crush these filthy Israelites
and this time, none shall escape.
- [Narrator] It seemed Pharaohwould never learn his lesson.
Even after seeing God open the Red Sea
for the Israelites tocross over to Mount Sinai.
- Wow.
That's a whole lot betterthan my magic card shuffle.
- What are you waiting for?
After them!
- [Narrator] As his armiespursued the Israelites,
God closed up the Red Sea,
sweeping away Pharaoh's entire army.
(Pharaoh gasps)
- [Narrator] Even though Pharaoh
was the most powerful man in the world,
he couldn't succeedagainst the power of God.
