- [Announcer] This is CBN NewsWatch.
- And thank you so much for joining us
for this edition of CBN NewsWatchfor Tuesday, October 29th.
I'm Efrem Graham, and ahead today:
fighting the massivewildfires in California
with thousands of peopleforced out of their homes
and 600,000 more about to lose power.
Should Christians celebrate Halloween?
We're gonna hear how one former Satanist
answers that question.
And what's the best way to live longer
and stay healthy as you get older,
and even dramatically cutyour risk of Alzheimer's?
You might not believehow simple it really is.
And we're gonna hear from thepopular musician Kanye West
as he speaks out abouthis Christian faith.
We've got all those stories and more today
in this edition of CBN NewsWatch.
We want to begin this half hour
with the fire emergency in California
where crews are workingto contain major wildfires
in the northern part ofthe state and Los Angeles.
In the north, firefightersare battling the Kincade Fire
which has burned some 75,000 acres
and threatens 90,000 buildings.
Officials say power lines may have caused
two fires in the Bay Area even though
there have been widespreadblackouts to avoid that.
Officials have announced anew round of blackouts today
for dozens of northernCalifornia counties.
600,000 customers are set to lose power.
The Los Angeles Fire Department says
about 10,000 residentialand commercial structures
were under mandatory evacuations.
In Brentwood, sleeping residents
had to escape their homesin the middle of the night.
- It was a neighbor whorang the doorbell and said,
"We gotta evacuate, we gottaget out right this minute."
- Just in the last 24 hours,
Cal Fire's put out 330 fires in the state.
- In Los Angeles, the Getty Fire
has burned hundreds of acres.
Winds of up to some 65 milesan hour have fueled that fire.
We turn now to the Middle East.
Although most believethere's a cease fire in place
inside northeast Syria, asChris Mitchell now reports,
the people on the ground aretelling a different story.
(gunfire popping)
- [Chris] On the front lines,
a small Christian reliefgroup is reporting
the ceasefire is in name only.
(gunfire popping)
- We were hit pretty hard today.
There was Turkish armor, youknow Turkish-painted armor.
Three armored vehicles, multiple infantry.
Many wounded we got in the back here.
Team is treating them.
Lord, help 'em make it,in Jesus' name, amen.
- [Chris] Dave Eubank andhis Free Burma Rangers
have been rescuing the wounded
and helping those caughtup in the fighting.
- [Dave] That mortar just hit right here.
- [Chris] He says the Turkish army,
along with its jihadist allies, are continuing the attack.
- Right now, the onlysafe zone that there is
is the international borderbetween Turkey and Syria.
The other zone is a genocide zone.
Christians and Kurds are gone.
They can't stay: they will die.
Those that have stayed will die.
- There is no ceasefire.
- [Chris] Dalton Thomastold CBN's Ben Kennedy
on Faith Nation there's twosafe zones inside Syria.
- One for ethnic and religious minorities
protected by the Kurds,
and one for ISIS protected by Turkey.
And the one safe zonewas exposed yesterday
with Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi being killed,
and now we're seeinghow far this conspiracy
is actually gonna go.
- [Chris] Al-Baghdadi's safe house
sat in a Turkish-protected area.
Thomas and a number of otherssuspect Turkey shielded him.
On Monday, Israel's Ambassador to the UN
called out Turkey's President Erdogan.
- For years, he has beendestabilizing the region
with violence and supportingterror organizations.
Erdogan is a threat to regional stability,
to Turkish neighbors, andto the Turkish democracy.
- [Chris] After Baghdadi's death,
Thomas sees a greater threat.
- The Middle East ismuch more dangerous now
than it was, even with his death,
because we're seeing the riseof the true Islamic State,
which is the State of Turkey.
- [Chris] Recently,Turkey's Defense Minister
posted a future map of Turkey
that included parts ofSyria, Iraq and Greece.
In the midst of the crisis,Eubank and Thomas are praying
for the US and theinternational community.
- But I'm praying thatour country changes,
and not only is guarding oilfields, which are important,
but even more important are people.
That's why you have oil, forpeople, and it's their oil.
So, we need to bring our troopsback and draw a new line.
- My prayer would be thatthe international community
would wake up to what's actually happening
and engage to stop it becausewe're running out of time.
- [Chris] Chris Mitchell,CBN News, Jerusalem.
- In Washington, a military officer
at the National SecurityCouncil will appear
in the Democratsimpeachment inquiry today.
Alexander Vindman twice raised concerns
he believed the Trump administration
was pushing Ukraine to investigateDemocrats and Joe Biden
according to the testimonyhe is set to deliver.
In Chicago Monday, President Trump
blasted the Democrats' impeachment probe.
- The impeachment ofyour president is a scam.
- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has announced
the House will vote ona resolution Thursday
to set rules for public hearings on
and outline the possible process
for writing articles of impeachment,
but Republicans say that is not enough,
that the impeachment processhas been illegitimate
because it's been conductedbehind closed doors
and Democrats handled itwrong from the very start.
While Washington focuses on impeachment,
the stock market keeps rolling higher.
The Standard and Poors 500 index,
which is widely trackedby market professionals,
set a new all-time high Monday,
closing just under 3,040.
Many analysts believe stocks will hit
more record highs in the days ahead.
President Trump calledthe new record a, quote,
"big win for jobs, 401ks,and, frankly, everyone."
Overseas now, a powerful earthquake
hit the southern Philippines today
killing at least one person.
Dozens were injured inthe 6.6 magnitude quake.
People dashed out of homes, offices,
and shopping malls as the ground shook.
The region is still recovering
from recent strong earthquakes.

and analysis fromWashington on Faith Nation,

- As Halloween approaches, thousands of witches
recently plotted a binding spell
against President Donald Trump.
As CBN News has reported,
witches have been increasingtheir political involvement
since President Trump was elected.
This comes as witchcraftis on the rise in America,
and is reportedly
the fastest-growingreligion in the country.
And when it comes tocelebrating Halloween,
there's growing debate
over whether Christiansshould celebrate the day.
On this week's episode of The Prayer Link
on the CBN News Channel, former Satanist John Ramirez
shares why he believes Christiansshould not be taking part.
- Welcome to the show, John.
Now, first of all, youonce worshiped Satan.
How did you get involved in all of that?
- Well, my life was basically, and my father's bloodline,
it was all about witchcraft,
and from an early age, wedescended from Puerto Rico
to New York City, the South Bronx,
and we carried a legacy from Puerto Rico,
we carried the legacyover to New York City,
and it was basically, it was all ingrafted
in my father's lineage from day one.
The occult was ingrafted, andone thing about the occult:
they make it to seem likeit's something cultural,
that your grandmother didit, your mommy did it,
your auntie did it, nowit's your turn to do it.
- How did you finally get free?
- Well, Jesus has a sense of humor.
I thank God for my salvation.
1999, the Lord brought me into a place of,
a place of desperation on my bed.
Sat there, renounced Jesus Christ,
didn't want to be a Christian.
I told them my daddy the devilwas a lot bigger than he was,
and Jesus took me to hell that night,
brought me back from hell.
I went into hell as a thirdhigh-ranked devil worship
and came back as abeliever of Jesus Christ.
- Praise God, and now youare a minister of the Gospel,
and, you know, beforebecoming a Christian,
you said that you once had ademonic wedding on Halloween.
You know, what are someof the other things
that you did on that day, on Halloween?
- Animal sacrifices,animal sacrifices, rituals,
and many people that werehigh-ranked devil worshipers,
mediums and warlocks andwitches came to my wedding
because they was able to channeldemons and principalities
(bad signal glitches out words)
to baptize and bless my wedding.
- Wow, so on Halloween, people who are in the occult,
that's a special day for them, you say?
- Oh, yeah, it's like saying,
us on the other side of the spectrum,
how we look at Good Friday,
they look at Halloween the same way.
- Wow, now some disagree with you, John,
when you say that Christiansshould not celebrate Halloween.
Why do you say that?
- Well, you can stand in front of the,
you can stand on the edge of the building,
throw yourself off andnot believe in gravity,
and that's okay.
Then, when you land, you'll figure it out,
but how is it that we aregonna be in the place of
saluting and honoring thedevil when witchcraft,
October is witchcraft month.
I lived it for 25 years,
I practiced it for 25 years.
So you're gonna come out of left field
and you never lit up acan of chilled animal,
drank animal blood, and younever sat down with the devil,
and you're gonna tell methat Halloween is okay?
I think you're verydelusioned as a believer.
- Wow, and what aboutalternatives to Halloween?
People are asking are they okay,
like harvest festivals at churches?
- No, not at all.
I mean, if I was a pastor,
I'm an evangelist for JesusChrist now for 20 years.
If was a pastor and Iwas gonna do something
to attract people, I woulddo maybe a production
that would draw peopleso to show the graphic
and the grossedness of thedark side of Halloween,
and then show theredemption of Jesus Christ
and then do an altar call.
Why would I bring candy andpumpkins into the church?
I mean, you might aswell call it the devil.
You might as well tell thedevil come in and join you,
that's what you're doing.
You're inviting thedevil into your church.
You're inviting the devil topartake of your congregation,
your flock, your children.
You're changing your identity,
I don't care if you dress your
(poor connection breaks upwording) like Noah, Abraham.
You're changing your identitybecause it is the string
that ties you to the enemy thatyou're celebrating somehow,
some form, maybe notdirectly, but indirectly,
you're celebratingsomething that is so demonic
that you can't put your finger on it,
and now you just invited your church
and you're inviting the congregation,
you're inviting your children to be,
change their identity forthey can be part of something
that the devil will collect later.
- [Charlene] Wow, John Ramirez,
and you are on a missionto spread that message.

- One of the world's leadingexperts on aging says
with a little know-how,we can live healthy lives
well into our 90s and even beyond.
Dr. Steven Gundry is theauthor of a book called
"The Longevity Paradox: How toDie Young at a Ripe Old Age"
where he talks about the importance
of keeping your gut health, and that is tonight's focus
on Healthy Living on the CBN News Channel.
He shared the secretsto the Fountain of Youth
with our Health reporter, Lorie Johnson.
Here's a look at some of thehighlights at that interview.
- I love the title: "How toDie Young at a Ripe Old Age."
What does that mean?
- Well, you know, mostof us want to get old,
but when we start looking down the line
and we see, oh, operations in our future,
hip replacements, kneereplacements, heart surgery,
and maybe ending up in a nursing home
not remembering our name, that doesn't look very good,
so the paradox of longevityis we want to be young
well into ripe old age,and the good news is
you can actually achieve that at any age.
- So a lot of people don'teven think that's possible.
They have to live in a single-story home
and they're not going tohave very much mobility
or very much memory and you say
none of that has to be the case.
- No, that's actually,we're beginning to be taught
that that's going to happen to us,
but if we look at super-old people
who live well into their earlyhundreds and even up to 120,
we know, in fact, that getting old
doesn't have to mean debility,
doesn't have to mean not having your mind,
doesn't have to meancancer and heart surgery.
And there's real good evidence
on how to accomplish gettingold to a ripe old age--
- This is so exciting.- And dying young.
- I love it!
And, you know, there arethese areas in the world
called Blue Zones wherethere are high concentrations
of people who live over 100,
and you actually livedin the only Blue Zone
in the United States,Loma Linda, California.
What do all thesepopulations have in common?
- Well, it's been asubject of great debate,
and I'm actually the only nutritionist
who has actually spent most of his career
living and practicing in a Blue Zone,
Loma Linda, California.
And you hear a lot from peoplewho write about the Blue Zone
that the things that the BlueZone people have in common
is they eat whole grainsand they eat beans,
and in fact, that'sactually not the truth.
What combines, what unitesall these Blue Zones
is that they actually eatvery little animal protein,
and that's the thing thatseparates all these Blue Zones.
It's not the beans, it's not the grains,
in fact, there's multiple Blue Zones
that don't eat beans and grains,
and yet they have longevity.
What's been found at Loma Linda
by Dr. Gary Fraser, oneof my colleagues, is
that these long-lived adventists,
the longest-living ofthe long-lived adventists
are actually vegans, andthat as more animal protein
is slowly added into theirdiet, being eggs or cheese even,
that their longevity and their health span
actually begins to go down.
What's also really cool is
a new study out of Singapore showed
that people who eat twocups of mushrooms per week,
now that's actually nota lot, particularly,
you can cook, two cups of mushroom cooked
is actually about what you see right here,
have a 90% reduction inAlzheimer's compared to people
who don't eat two cupsof mushrooms a week.
So think about this: ifI had a drug that said,
"Lorie, if you take this drug once a week
"and you will have a 90% chanceof not having Alzheimer's,"
I mean, how much wouldyou pay for that drug?
And all you gotta dois go buy some cremini
or button mushrooms at the store.
You know, a littlepackage would cost you $2.
That's how much you pay for that drug.
- Then you talk in hereabout washing your brain.
What does that mean?
- Well, we now know that the brain
actually has to go through a wash cycle
and during that wash cycle,
which happens really earlyin sleep called deep sleep,
we actually clean all the toxins
like amyloid and tauproteins out of our brain.
We have to have a lot ofblood flow into our brain
to do that, kinda like a wash cycle,
and if you eat a meal tooclose to the time of bed,
all the blood rushes down toyour stomach for digestion
and doesn't go up to yourbrain to clean your brain.
It's kinda like when youand I were growing up,
mom told us we couldn't goswimming for an hour after we ate
because we would get cramps and die?
Well, that wives' talewas a little bit of truth,
and what we now know is if you eat
too close to the time you go to bed,
you don't wash your brain andall those toxins accumulate.
And so eating close tobedtime is a really dumb idea.
So we want to go threeto four hours before bed,
and we don't want a late-night snack.
Then you'll wash your brain.
- He's here to answer your question.
The first one is from Tracy.
"What is your opinion of the keto diet?"
So popular these days.
- Well, you know Chapter 10in my book "The Plant Paradox"
is my keto version.
The mistake I see in most keto dieters
is number one, they never get into ketosis
because most of them are eatingfar too much animal protein
and one of the mistakes Atkins made:
he didn't realize thatprotein will turn into sugar,
it's called gluconeogenesis.
The other mistake of a keto diet is
you do want to eat a lot offat, but it's not animal fat.
That was proven over and over again
that you really don't wantyour fat from animals.
So heavy cream and thingslike that you want to avoid.
What you do want is fats
from olive oil and avocados, plant fats.
These actually are life-saving.
Three of the blue zones
eat over a liter of olive oil per week.
That's 10 to 12 tablespoons a day.
- Wow, so olive oil, avocados, nuts also high in fat
that also are plant-based.- Nuts are great,
particularly macadamia nuts.
In fact, one of my favorite sayings
is the only purpose of food
is to get olive oil in your mouth.
- And you can see the entireinterview with Dr. Grundy
and hear more about his book
