- Pro-life advocate, AbbyJohnson has a new ministry
for pregnant women, it is called LoveLine
and it provides immediatesupport for those in crisis.
Abby joins us now.
Abby, thanks so much for being here.
- Of course, thanks for having me on.
- What was the motivation behindstarting this new ministry?
- Well, in the past 10 years,I've gotten a lot of calls
from women who don't havepregnancy resource centers
in their area, women whojust simply don't know
what resources are available to them.
They don't even knowthe first step to take
and I feel like part of what we need to do
in the pro-life movementis not just to help women
who are currently pregnant,
even though that is ahuge focus of our mission.
But to also help womenwho maybe are struggling.
Maybe they're single moms,
maybe they're a very low-income family
and they just don't knowwhat's available to them.
And so we started getting a lot of emails
and phone calls fromwomen who were in crisis.
And so we wanted to providean actual hotline for them,
and we have gathered alot of materials for women
and we have people 24 hours a day
who are willing to geton the phone with them
and to plug them in to different resources
that are available in their area.
- So it sounds likeit's really going beyond
just a women in her pregnancy
and really extendingto any woman in crisis.
Is it just by phone, is it online,
how does it actually work?
- Yeah, so they can contact us,
they can, sorry,
they can contact us online.
They can also chat with us online,
they can call our hotline.
So there's a lot of differentways that they can get
in touch with us.
But like I said, it is a 24 hour line.
There is somebodyanswering it all the time.
They can text with us.
But we have a lot of waysthat they can get ahold of us
just so that we can plugthem in to the right places.
- It's interesting, and youmentioned this a minute ago,
but how does your work interface
with crisis pregnancy centers?
It seems like there'skind of a patchwork quilt
of support systems forwomen across the country.
- Yeah, so we definitely wantto get women into pregnancy
centers for that continuity of care.
So, but a lot of women don't know
about pregnancy centers in their area.
A lot of women don't understand
what pregnancy centers actually do
and how they can help them.
And so this is a place wherewe can actually partner
with the local pregnancycenter and say hey,
we've got a gal who needs you,we can pair them together.
And get this woman theresources that they need.
So it's just another,
another branch on the tree, right?
People just all working together.
Unifying together to try to get women all
of the help that they need.
- It sounds really beautiful.
Have you had any stories so far
of helping women, someone who'sbeen able to connect here?
- Yeah, I mean we've helpedover 100 women so far
just in the past I wouldsay year and a half
to two years just doing itwithout an official ministry.
We've provided baby showers for women,
we have helped pay rent.
So we have so many storiesof women that have been
touched by the generosity of other people
and who have been able tonetwork with people in their area
who just wanna help.
And it's a great opportunity also for
moms, stay-at-home momsto get involved with
women in their communitywho may need help.
Just this week we have a woman
who's a stay-at-home mom of six children,
she's gonna be connecting with a woman
who's currently living inher car, who's homeless.
And so we're gonna be able to get her
into a more stable situation.
- That's really beautiful.
Abby, thanks for sharingabout Loveline Ministry.
- Thank you so much.
