'TYRANNICAL': CA Foster Care Bill Allows Secret Abortions, Forces Parents to Use Preferred Pronouns
Read Transcript
- California Governor, Gavin Newsom,
signed a bill this weekdealing with foster care,
but one family organizationin the state says
it violates the free speechrights of foster parents
and has the organization raising concerns
that it allows foster children to run
their own lives at theexpense of the rights
of foster parents.
The California Family Council's Director
of Capital Engagement, GregBurt, joins us now by Skype
with more on this law.
Welcome Greg.
- Hi, how are you doin'?
- Your organization says thebill that Governor Newsom
signed gives foster children the right
to secret abortions andrape care and the right
to keep texting and phone call records
away from the oversight of foster parents.
Can you elaborate on that?
- Yeah, this is a bill thatwas just signed this week
under the guise of children'srights, the governor is
signing a bill that's actually saying
that children have the right to abortions,
contraception, care if they get sexually
without anybody knowingwho is overseeing them,
an adult, a terrible opportunity
for them to be abused andwe just can't understand
why this is being done.
It's really horrifying.
- Greg, the CaliforniaFamily Council also says,
AB175 violates the free speechrights of foster parents
by compelling them to use a foster child's
pronoun of preference.
Can you explain?
- Yes.
So, another right thatthis bill gives kids is
that they have the right to demand
from their foster parents, that if they think they are
the other sex or a differentsex than their sex at birth,
they have the right to demandthat their foster parents
use this pronoun of preference.
Now, the state and the federal government
doesn't have the right todemand or compel people
to say words that they don't believe.
We see this a trend in schools,in different professions,
where the government isforcing Christian parents,
who believe in just twogenders, the Biblical
view of gender, yet they'reforcing as you know,
this is the polite way todeal with transgender kids,
you must say these made-up genders
or you must use, if youknow this is a female,
you must use his or her, ifthat's what they think they are.
And we just think thisviolates the first amendment.
There's cases going on aroundthe country about this,
but this is a dangerous trend.
- Greg, what is the CaliforniaFamily Council doing
to fight against the law?
- Well, we're sounding the alarm.
Just like we're talking toyou, we're writing articles.
I testified against thebill three or four times.
We're bringing other witnesses to testify.
We're just sounding the alarm and sadly,
you know, there's not awhole lotta groups out there
advocating for foster care kids.
And so, that's gotta change.
The church has gotta standup for these vulnerable kids
who need parents, who are protecting them.
There's so many Christiansinvolved in foster care
and we believe these kind of laws are just
pushing Christians right outof foster care altogether.
- Right.
Greg Burt of theCalifornia Family Council.
