- Planned Parenthood isthe country's largest
abortion provider andsays it is concerned now
about healthcare for low-income women.
Our Heather Sells is following this story
and joins us now with more.
So how will the loss of $60 million
affect Planned Parenthood's bottom line?
- Right, and that's what I was wondering.
Like, that's a good amount, but I want to point out
some key numbers toyou that Melanie Israel
with the Heritage Foundation pointed out.
And that is that last year $245 million
in excess revenue is whatPlanned Parenthood reported.
630 million in private contributions,
and they received 500 million in Medicaid.
So you know, we'll see going forward,
but in light of those kind of numbers
they seem to be doing well.
I'm not sure that 60 million,
they're gonna feel it that much.
- So what will this meanfor low-income women?
- And that is the argument
that Planned Parenthood is making.
Their interim CEO said yesterday
that these women could have a delay
or not be able to get healthcare.
Again, 60 million doesn'tseem to be a big deal
when you look at PlannedParenthood's overall budget.
And they still have Medicaid funding,
and some states like Illinoisand Vermont are saying
we're going to make upthe loss that you receive
so this remains to be seen.
- All right, what do you think this means
when it comes to next year's election?
- Right, so the president has been saying
that he wanted to defundPlanned Parenthood
and so this gives him a great opportunity
to say to his base, to sayto Evangelicals primarily,
hey, look what I did for you.
We will see though whether abortion
really is what people vote on.
It could be more the economy,it could be some other issues,
but this definitely, it defines the debate
and gives the president a talking point.
- So when it comes tothis particular issue
pro-life advocates are calling this a win.
- Oh, definitely.- Indeed, all right.
Heather Sells thank you so much
for following this for us today.
- You're welcome.- Much appreciated.
