Read Transcript
- Well known pastor andevangelist, Greg Laurie
is preparing for a huge evangelistic event
for Southern Californiaand actually the world.
He says with technology,
people can join the threeday event from anywhere.
He spoke with our Charlene Aaron
about how a tech savvy generation
still needs to be connected to Christ.
- So we've gone fromthe Greatest Generation,
those that were livingthrough World War II,
then the Baby Boomers,
that's my generation,
then Generation X, then the Millennials
and now Generation Z.
So here's a generation of young people
who have everything reallythat one could want in life.
The tech, all the great exciting things
that are part of their life
but maybe they've never,
we've never got a moreconnected generation
maybe through media and at the same time,
a more disconnected generation
and a more hopeless generation.
They have the highest suiciderate of any generation,
the highest use ofdrugs of any generation.
So what is our message tothe hopeless generation?
Well, it's the hope of the gospel.
It's a relationship with God.
We're basically saying there's nothing
this culture can offer you,
that will fill that hole in your heart.
Only Christ can do that.
So that aspect of what we're saying
doesn't change because Jesus Christ
is the same yesterday, today and forever
and he is the answer for every generation.
- He never changes.
That's right.
And Pastor Laurie, how wouldyou encourage Christians
to be praying ahead of this crusade?
- What I'd like to say
to all those that are watching right now,
that you can participate in this crusade
no matter where you are.
Obviously, we would love you to come
and join us in Southern California
at the Angels Stadium.
We'll have over, God willing,
100,000 people over the weekend
but you can watch it online.
It's live at harvest.org.
You can also download our Harvest app.
You can watch it on Apple TV.
You can watch in on the Roku box.
So there is many ways to getthe content of this event
and you can use it tobring people to Christ.
Here's a story.
Someone wrote me and saidthey were watching it
on the laptop computer
and the lady said sheleft the room for a moment
and came back in
and when I was praying forpeople at Angel's Stadium,
her husband was literally on his knees
in front of the computer praying.
So look, God can use technology.
We're using it right now
and the gospel is powerfulthrough technology
so I would encourage thefolks watching this right now
to pray for us, number one,
try to come and join us in person,
but thirdly, watch it yourself live.
Have a viewing party at your house.
It's a high quality HD signal
so you could watch it on yourbig TV set if you have one
in your front room oryour little tiny TV set,
whatever you have,
or send the link to friendsand tell them to watch it
and it's a tool that we wanna give to you
to help bring your friends and neighbors
and loved ones to Christ.
- Well, it sounds like it's going to be
an amazingly wonderful time.
Great guests that you're gonnahave alongside you there.
And tell us again, remind us again,
of the dates and the location.
- Yes, well it's, I haveto look at this thing
for a second, forgive me.
Let's see.
August 23 to 25.
Isn't that bad?
I don't have the dates memorized
so I had to look at the poster.
(laughs)
August 23 to 25 at Angel's Stadium.
It starts at seven in the evening,
goes 'til around nine or so.
We have an amazinglineup of musical talent.
We have Jeremy Camp.
We have Phil Wickham.
We have Chris Tomlin.
We have Lecrae, Newsboys.
For King and Country.
The list goes on
and then every night,
I'm gonna be talking about how to have
a relationship with God.
I would say there's threewords that start with H
that would be thematic for thisweekend at Angel's stadium.
One of them is hope.
We already talked about thatin this brief interview.
We're, we wanna bring hopeto the hopeless generation.
Another one is Heaven.
How to have the assurance
that you will go to Heaven when you die
and we wanna tell people how to come
into a relationship with Christ
and thirdly, happiness!
How to be happy
and you can find this happiness
in a relationship with God
and we'll tell people how.
- Hope, happiness, Heaven.
I love it.
Pastor Greg Laurie,
thank you so much for your time.
God bless you.
- God bless you, Charlene.
