Read Transcript
- President Trump is givingCongress two weeks to negotiate
fixes to asylum and immigration loopholes
or he says: "big deportation begins."
- We're doing a fantasticjob under the circumstances.
The Democrats aren't evenapproving giving us money.
Where is the money?
You know what?
The Democrats are holdingup the humanitarian aid.
- [Abigail] Just hours beforethe expected immigration rates
were set to the begin thePresident announced via Twitter
he was delaying the deportations
at the request of Democrats.
- If the Democrats wouldchange the asylum laws
and the loopholes which they refuse to do
because they think it's good politics,
everything would be solved immediately.
- [Abigail] House Speaker Nancy Pelosi
tweeted back: thedelay is welcome.
- This felt worse than jails.
- [Abigail] I an interviewwith ABC News Dr. Dolly Sevier
described witnessingdetained children held
in inhumane conditionsakin to torture facilities
with a complete lack of basic sanitation.
- The conditions at thesefacilities are placing them
at increased risk forinfection, disease, and death.
- [Abigail] Sevier was allowedto visit the Ursula facility
in McAllen, Texas afterfive infants were sent
to intensive carefollowing a flu outbreak.
- We can't even get them togive the humanitarian dollars
that the President has asked;
in a humanitarian disaster on the border.
- [Abigail] House Republicanshave tried nearly 20 times
to pass a bill that addresses humanitarian
and security concernsat the southern border.
There's hope for a bi-partisanagreement in the Senate
with the AppropriationsCommittee approving
a 4.6 billion dollaraid package last week.
- I think it is so urgentthat we treat people with
basic dignity in our countryregardless of their status.
We need to make surefrom a humanitarian basis
that they have basic nutrition,
that they have basic health care,
and so I do support thebi-partisan agreement.
- [Abigail] While HouseRepublicans say they're pleased
Democrats are finally acknowledging
at least one crisis at the border.
- I'd like to see it all together
but you know what if mychoice on the minority side
is to vote up or down on a compassionate,
humanitarian packagethat's what I'm gonna do.
- They also want more funds for ICE,
Border Patrol agents,and immigration judges.
The House and Senate haveuntil the end of June
to pass a humanitarian fundingbill or the administration
warns agencies will run out
of money to pay for current aid programs.
That means that the situationat the southern border
will become even more dire.
