- [Narrator] Rufina is a widow.
She's been raising her two grandchildren
ever since their momleft them many years ago.
- [Female Translator]They are my treasure.
I send them to school and tryto help them any way I can.
- [Narrator] But times have been rough
and the family has had to skip meals.
Rufina earns $3.00 a day selling snacks.
Nine year old Alex helps her when he can.
- [Child Translator] My job is to cull out
what we are selling that day.
I love helping my grandma.
- [Narrator] Then Rufina learned
that Alex was struggling in school.
- [Child Translator] Ididn't like to read out loud.
The kids made fun of me.
- [Female Translator] The teacher told me
he was not reading well
and that he would not pass.
- [Narrator] Rufina hadonly attended school
for a few years herself
and believed she lacked theskills to help her grandson.
That's when she learnedabout a community program
supported by CBN's Orphan's Promise.
Working through a church,Orphan's Promise provides funds
to tutor and help kidslike Alex with homework
and the children learn about Jesus
through watching episodesof CBN's Superbook.

He's reading and writing better now.

and the other children witha nutritious lunch every day.
Grandma says that's a huge help.
